It's actually mujtahid which means scholar of Islamic law. My colleagues in the University funkified it cos I was good in Islamic law courses as electives then purely on academics not as per religious affiliation.
Oh thanks for clarification.

Since, your source is from Wikipedia, all you wrote up there are junks like you wrote the other day. But had to correct by showing you facts from the authorized source. Sorry.

Bro, he's right.

Based on available data, the 94 set was not really as great individually as initially thought. As a team, they were a delight to watch. In that respect, they compare favorably with today's team. It was the '98 set that was full of very good individual players but we messed up our chances with poor tactics.

Oga, we live to fight another day. Today is not your day. grin

@bolded is a false information because Rashidi Yekini was the 5 highest goal scorer in the Portuguese league with 12 or 15 goals in 1990/1991 season. Meaning he didn't join Setubal when dey were in division 2 though it was relegated the same season.

He was the highest goal scorer in the second division for two seasons before he went to division 1 to prove that his performance in division 2 were no flukes by becoming the highest goal scorer there. After that, he left for Olympiacos for the 1994/1995 season.

Meaning he played two seasons in the Portuguese league. Besides, Rashidi was already the top goal scorer in Afcon 1990, top goal scorer in the best leagues in Africa at that time before he went to Setubal.

It is just like Mikel Obi and Ighalo going to China.

Moreover, Ikpeba was the best African player in Belgium 1993 after scoring 17 league goals and after he helped his club to win the Belgium cup in 1990. This was what propelled him to the second
best club in France which was the second best league in Europe. Remember, he went to replace the one time African best player of the year George Weah who went to PSG and was up against Klinnsman, Thierry Henry and David Trezegue. Nevertheless, Ikpeba scored 6 goals out of 9 matches in UEFA Champions league league that helped them to reach the Semi finals. Since, he started all those matches ahead of one of those top players, don't you think he was rated then? Sure, he played some league games too.

Ikpeba was going up. Different senerio.

Funny enough, in this single post, you are contradicting yourself.

1. Going by your initial logic that any player playing in a division 2 (backwater league) cannot feature for the SE. Yet in the same breath you have been making an exuse for Yekini all day long.Meaning you would have picked Yekini because he was in hot form even he was playing in a division 2 - a "backwater league"

2. Your excuse for Yekini is that he was banging in goals left, right, center ...year in , year out. Making him a top striker. But this same top striker of yours who was in top form going into the world cup scored just 1 goal all through the tournament. Only 1 goal fa!..

1 goal that any other ordinary player can score whether you are playing in a top league or not, whether you are in top form or not... Smh

Can't you see that you are running around in circles?.... Can't you see that football is never mathematics where 1+1 = 2?

I beg you in the name of God, ..drop all these your allegations of bias against Rohr, against the NFF and let them do their jobs. If they win we praise them and if they lose we fault them.

Must they play your own player?.... All these negative allegations and personal attack on Nwankali, iheanacho, and on the team in general should stop please.

It doesn't matter whether a person is playing in the moon or in a backwater league. Those that will perform will perform, and those that won't perform, won't perform.

This your excessive nagging, accusasions, complaints and arguments is becoming annoying, tiring and stale.

Besides it is putting you in bad lights here.

Enough please!

Thanks

If you were to select an African all-star 11 for a World Cup match next year, which players would you pick?
Note: You can only pick players from the 5 African nations that qualified for the World Cup.

I’d go with the following:

——————-El Hadary—————-

—-Shehu—-Ekong—-Balogun—-Idowu—

—————-Ndidi—-Onazi————

———————-Mikel—————-

—-Salah——-Sane——-Victor Moses——

Idowu, not yet a Nigerian international.

Bros, please do

It's high time. The thread is even getting banal with these arguments and counter-arguments about which team was better

Our focus should be on the current crop of SE players, how they can improve individually and as a team

To the naysayers, I say this; these guys would lit up their opponents at the world cup

Especially Messi and the coach of Croatia that have been running their mouths in the media

I just have this feeling that Nigeria and Iceland may just clinch the second round ticket from their group

On a side note

1. Ndidi tried a magnificent long range effort in the game against Liverpool and I believe if he continues to work on his scoring in training and take more risks, he may become unstoppable

2. It wouldn't be a bad idea for Moses to start set-piece training. He needs to add that ability to his game. Also, his crossing needs to improve

3. I haven't lost faith in Musa and i think a loan or permanent transfer would do him a world of good. No be bench we want for SE

Ndidi has always had that long range shot since from his days at Genk. He scored two of them last season.

Eguavoen: Super Eagles Made Nigerians Happy In 2017, Can Reach World Cup Semis

1 December 30, 2017 9:05 pm

By Bamidele Boluwaji:

Former Super Eagles coach Austin Eguavoen says he feels excited that the team made Nigerians happy in 2017, Completesportsnigeria.com reports
Eguavoen, who led the Super Eagles to the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, told Completesportsnigeria.com that the performance of Gernot Rohr’s team in the outgoing year which saw them qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia was one of the best he has seen in recent times from the national team.

“Everybody happy with the Super Eagles in the outgoing year and I am sure that you journalists are also happy because you all had something good to report about the team,” for Super Eagles captain Eguavoen told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“They played their entire World Cup qualifiers without defeat though there were some games we were not happy about but when you look at the whole thing, you will agree with me that they made Nigerians happy in the year 2017 which you are talking about.

“I am sure that they would have learnt from all their mistakes in the year 2017 and ready to improve on them in the year 2018. The semi-final stage is a possibility for the team at the 2018 World Cup.

“I can only call on Nigerians to give the team more support in the New Year while I urge the players to work harder.”

Nigeria will play Argentina, Iceland and Croatia in the first round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

I like listening to this guy speak, he's so eloquent.

Yes of course, 60% or 70% of our first 11 were outstanding.

There is big gulf in class btw 1994 team and present team.

Anderlecht and Belgian pro league are currently shadows of themselves. It is not comparable to the Anderlecht of those days.
SE performance after the world cup will stop all these una debate.

He is trying to tell you that according to two other guys here,.. The fact that he was playing for a division 2 club is a big worry and that he would or should never be considered playing for us at all.

You can't win the lottery if you never bought the ticket.

Yekini would never had shone in the GWG owing to yardstick those two guys on this thread are using for this current SE players because he would never have been considered at all since he was playing in a backwater Division 2 league.

If you still don't get his point,.. Then I am sorry.. This is a lost cause

We all should know the origin of this whole argument.

Two people on this thread had set a yardstick for measuring a call-up to the SE. They are on the opinion that only players playing in the top leagues are considered good enough for the SE... Funny enough the tops leagues in their own opinion are

English Premiership
English Championship
English League one
English League two
English conferenceI

Ahead of
Bundesliga
LA liga
Serial A
Ligue 1
Jupiler
Eresdivisie
Etc
grin grin grin

If their logic was to hold true in '94, more than half of that squad had no business in the team grin

Yekini olympiakos Pireuse out
Alonysios Agu kayerispor out
Peter Rufai fariense out
Michael Enemalo- no club -out
Stephen keshi - no club- out

Uche okafor- ashdod- out
Uche okechukwu -fernebache-out
Efan Ekoku -norwich city-out
Emeka Ezuego -fremad amager- out
Thompson Oliha -no club- out
Victor Ikpeba (not a regular at Monaco then) out grin

Hehehehehej .... Yeye dey smell grin

I want to assume that your comments in bold are sarcasm and not crass exaggeration.

To bring a clearer and more objective consideration.

Facts, the EPL is the most physically intense, tasking and competitive league. In addition widely regarded as the best in Europe. There are some authoritative bodies that consider La Liga the best. With the Bundesliga as either second best or third depending on who is making the assessment.

However, unlike the other leagues you have almost total domination for the past 10 years of one club, Bayern Munich from the onset. This makes it almost a one club league like Celtic in the Scottish premiership.

When you take Bayern Munich out of the Bundesliga what's left Bayern's performances bring the European rating of the Bundesliga right up there.

The EPL has been dominated by Manchester United, City, Chelsea, in recent years. With Liverpool Arsenal and Tottenham not that far behind. Indeed we had unknown Leicester city win the EPL. This makes it more competitive than any other league in Europe.

There are four EPL clubs in the last 16 of the Champions league. There is one club from the Bundesliga, three from La Liga and two from Sierra A. That tells us an indicative story.

So when I consider the bottom half of the Bundesliga not on par with the premiership bottom half but much lower. That's not bias but informed projection.

Finally, if you are stand out player in a lower league putting in top performances. You will stand out and very shortly move upwards. In this regard Dele, Gomez, Ademola, left league one straight to the EPL no delay no bust stop.

So do not discount or dismis lower level league players. However, the proviso is that they must be stand out top performing players in that league i.e. the cream de La creme of the league.

Since you can't define average, I would like us to reason a little?

Which league in this era can we compare with the Belgian league of that era?

It is very easy to say France because PSG and Monaco dominated this era in the French and even in Europe while Anderlecht and C. Brugge dominated in Belgium and in Europe in that era. And the both were/are rated within the top 5 - 6 leagues in Europe if we compare then and now.

Anderlecht and C. Brugge were even better than the current PSG and Monaco of today.

Having said that, can we say Mbbape is an average player?

If not, then how can you say Victor Ikpeba, Daniel Amokachi and Chidi Nwanu were average players?

Victor Ikpeba won the Ebonyi award in the Belgian league which was among the top 5 in Europe in 1993 before he moved up the ladder to the top 3 leagues and one of the best clubs in Europe.

Daniel Amokachi also won the Ebony award and the best foreigner award in Belgium twice and came third btw 1992- 1994. Don't forget that Club Brugge reached the UEFA champions league finals not too long and the semi finals of cup winners cup in 92. They were just like the Monaco of today and that was the club he played for prior to the WC.

Chidi Nwanu was played for Anderlecht prior to the WC and he was the Silver winner of the Ebony award after he came second behind Ikpeba while Daniel Amokachi was third in 1993. Don't forget that Anderlecht was in the finals of cup winners cup in 90 and reached the quarter finals of UEFA cup. They were among the best of course.

Rashidi Yekini was the highest goal scorer in the 4 or 5 best league in Europe in 1993. Don't forget he was the top goal scorer in the lucrative Nigerian and Ivory coast league. He had won the highest scorer award in two AFCONs and won the best player of the tournament in 1994 though he was the third in the previous tournament. Oh! A one time AFOTY and runner up at as 1994.

Emmanuel Amunike won the best footballer award in 1994. Zamalek was also a force in Africa.

Stephen Keshi already played for Anderlecht.

What is the rating of the Belgium league of these days?

Can you compare it to that Belgium league of that era?

Were are the average players here?

Pls don't deceive the ignorants here.

THANK YOU

I chose not to meddle in the banter or should i say debate about which team is the better between the current Super Eagles and the 94 set. Truth of the matter is there is no basis for comparison between the two teams. I wont even take it any further. Mujtahida and Icons4s have already done justice to that somehow.

What i wanna talk about is the issue belief in the current crop of players. Lets show some respect and a measure of faith in this current team. While over a half of the team may not be playing for the Barcelonas, Madrids, Bayerns, Monacos, PSGs, etc, truth is they got the job done. How will the world take note if they didnt even get to qualify? How will their stocks rise and how will they get beta opportunities if they dont play as a unit for one another? All we have working for us is the UNiTY and hardwork. Lets wait for its fruition. Lets not be like some farmer who planted maize and wanted it mature 3days later.

I hear all manner of arguments like "yo, the world cup aint for babies...." question is where were the grown ass men when the babies were doin it? I also hear stuff like backwater leagues. We all know at the end of it all, brazil isnt gonna parade PSG team neither is Argentina gona parade Barcelona team at the world cup. In other words, leagues dont play world cup, teams do. Individual quality can only do soo much but also, in the face of an equally determined team, they can lose to luck or better tactics. So all the talk of "Oh that boy too young, he aint gonna cut it. ... oh yeah he gonna melt at the world cup.." frankly dont fly. This is what we have on ground. Yeah .... this is us getting it right 1year to a world cup. What did yall expect? Magic? Teamwork is the tonic at the moment, unity the vitamins in this current team. Living up to Responsibilty on the part of the NFF for the first time is the air the team is breathing. Who could hurriedly forget what transpired at the Olympics when the dream team got dumped in America? So for the first time in donkey years , we are approaching things with a different philosophy entirely.

What else again? The english borns? Nah.... I aint doin that. Cos i will be reckless when it comes to that.

Final thoughts, world cup is just 6months away. Pray for no injuries to the players lucky enough to be in the team now. Pray for great execution of plans and tactics. Pray for the brothers to remain united. More than anything, pray for a successful campaign at the world cup. We have done the best we could at this time. It is time to go to WAR !!!

Wishing you all a prosperous new year
