I am going to be brutal and blame the girl. you know your husbands capability as well as his financial standing before you accepted to marry him. when the list or bride price was brought, you should have at least pleaded with your family as well as your relatives to at least be considerate considering hard times and the bad economy, instead, I am guessing (since I wasn't there) you sat, watched them rip your hubby off and you are coming on social media to complain. there is nobody who won't tell me that if she pleaded with her father to talk to the extended family to reduce the requirements, that they won't concede no matter how small. bear your cross and let this one be an eye opener when you are planning your white wedding. 3 Likes |

LoJ:no wonder lol. You really need to visit Igbo land during Xmas to witness things yourself. If not for our collective efforts, with the way Hausa-Yoruba dominated Nigerian government abandon Igbo land, Igbo land would have been a dumping site but we Igbos on our own collective effort make our respective villages small paradise. Forget what people say online, visit Igbo communities during Xmas and see the wonders and developmental projects being executed by Igbo guys in their villages. It usually gives me joy and I pray to soon join them in developing my community to a modern one soon by Gods grace. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Teespice:thank you! This silly girl just dragged her family to social media, so that the usual suspects will start another round of baseless Igbo bashing. I have stopped taking any of these complainants seriously, because I KNOW that prices get beat down when the woman forces the hand of her family This one obviously did nothing and decided to wail on Facebook to people who know nothing of how the entire process is done 3 Likes |

The problem isn't the bride price but that 'long list'... Even people from the same town, say the man and woman are from 'Town A'...then the same village but different quarters, they can marry as far as they are not related . ...in the town A...there is still differences for someone else from another village ...that is people from the same village will have a smaller list compared to someone from another village ....within the same town ooo, because in a village ...there are quarters and different villages make up the town, then once you are not from that town at all....another list ...but why? Greed simple. Some wicked villages, it doesn't and there, if the girl parents reside in Lagos for instance and the girl was married in Lagos, the parents MUST through the intermediate person must send some money to the people in village for their own drinks and other things on the list or else, if the girl parents die, the girl kindred will summon the girl and her husband in that time of their mourning and ask them to him fulfil all their marital rites afresh for the villagers or no burial. ...then the man will start marrying the girl traditionally again, meanwhile the dead body is still in the mortuary ..then when they are through before they will talk about the burial ...but if the man is 'well to do"...he can just settle the villagers immediately so the burial will go on especially when a date has been fixed and invited had long gone out, leaves have been approved, people are on ground...then after everything ...when the burial is over...the villagers will start entertaining themselves with the money for the drinks small small till all the drinks are bought ans shared. .. Leave matter oo...the girl no tell her hubby before hand? My mum told me then that in their time with a keg of Palm wine, few kola nuts, then with the parents of both parties presence. ..say like 10 people max in attendance, after some an hour max. .marriage is over. The two parents will give their blessings and marriage is over. No story at all. ..no CS operation for child birth, no divorce...that was in the 40s and 50s. |
