Mujtahida:
I grew up in Benue state during the heydays of the BCC Lions and Lobi Stars but I never caught on with the local league and I doubt if I'd ever get on with it because my programming makes me strongly disinterested in the league. Try as I could, I just am not interested in it.

But I want to say something encouraging especially to guys like BascoV.anVeli, dan.ycrusoe, somehow etc: remember that in the late 90's and early 2000 Nigerian music was not a force to reckon with even though it had enjoyed great home patronage from early independence till the early nineties when most recording studios packed up and left Nigeria.

In the 90's and early 2000 Tupac, biggie, Dr. Dre, p. Diddy, Master P, DMX, Sisqo, Wyclef, Mary J Blige were dominating the airwaves in Nigeria. But there were lone voice in the wilderness: Tuface, Plantashun boiz, African China were carrying on doggedly improving and becoming better.

Fifteen years on look at how the tide has changed. People hardly listen to foreign music now. Nigerian musicians are even getting international recognition, winning awards.

Nigerian music was brought into prominence by the government in '99 when they mandated all radio stations to play more of Nigerian songs since prior to that Foreign music was dominating our airways.

This was the time the govt with the NBC ought to have filtered what was played on radio but they didn't, every Tom, Dick, Harry and Jones's song was played on radio whether they make sense or not. When you hear Daddy fryo, father u-turn, daddy shoky, Olu Maintain, Black reverends, Remedy, Tony Tetuila for too long, you can't really explain but you'd begin to like them. (NB : I'm not saying all these guys were that bad)Or do you agree Whiz kid Davido and Olamide are the best we have to offer? Definitely not.

We've accepted them even though we know they are mediocres at best.

What I'm trying to say in essence is that they are unrelated and what was applied then with the music industry cannot apply to football.

There's no way these guys can make foreign leagues less attractive to us, when we have Nigerian players playing in those leagues, we want to monitor their progress. It's too late for that.

Or are you suggesting that the govt ban the use of satellite Telecom or hike the price up? Command All national stations to show our matches? We are even clamoring for lesser involvement of the govt in football issues so?

We need quality, so I implore the LMC with club owners to do more with regards packaging, branding and maintenance. I remember during the 2003/2004 season, there was a weekly program showing on AIT, showing highlights, bringing news about the league and players, the theme song was interesting, and there was this cool lady with a very fine accent then, that was one of my favorite programs then.

Yeah, I know about Naija made, but it's too official, even though they try to spice things up, it's still there.

Please, how much are land mowers and sprinklers?? Our soil is perfect for vegetation, so, I don't see it's difficult to maintain a smooth playing surface.

Weather: Rwanda is hotter than Nigeria, so how could they blame the weather? So you can't argue that the cold Libyan weather affected us more than it affected the Rwandans.

Pitch: I didn't watch the game but I am pretty sure that the pitch should be at par or better than the pitches those home based players play on week in week out. So no excuses.

At this level, no team would give you time and space to develop your play. They key is to move the ball quickly and have fluidity in your game movement to disorganize your opponent. That's what we call playing with cohesion!

Truidstar:

I watched the game yesterday, the Rwandans did not give us time or space, they were always closing down on whoever had the ball. The end result was hurried passes, fluffed shots and disjointed play. I thought the Rwandans would tire out in the second half but those boys do not get tired. We missed chances aplenty. The boys will get better as the tournament Progresses.

After watching teams like Morocco and Sudan hold their own, I am very sorry if I expected at least a goal from supposed 'tournament favorites' (according to the commentator)

I was not expecting anything from this team, my expectations was just to unearth some good players, not that we will even go past group stage. And this Libya that I am watching here, I just dey laugh....let us hope the pitch and the weather favours our players.

The only positive I took from yesterday's game is that the players had the ball on the ground a lot of times, however, the forwards have piss poor aim. There is no excuse to miss that many opportunities, 24 good shots, how do you explain missing that many shots? At a point it just looked ridiculous. And none of those forwards look ready to displace anyone in the current team which is really, the aim of this CHAN for me. So before anyone says, "after all the main team has had worse games", let us remember that some of us are looking for players that are better than what we have in that main team and if we can't see forwards better than what we have, then what are we looking at?

At least I watched this game, the SA one I no watch am, but this one.....the most impressive thing on show yesterday was the pitch in the Tangier Stadium grin

This would surely be the only opportunity for some of these players to ever wear the National Jersey, let them enjoy.

I never looked forward to getting new players from this team, to be honest with you.

Salisu Yusuf hails Sunday Faleye impact despite toothless Nigeria display
by Ed Dove, KweséESPN

Nigeria's African Nations Championship campaign began with a low-key 0-0 draw against Rwanda in Tanger on Monday, but coach Salisu Yusuf has hailed the impact of teenage forward Sunday Faleye after a bright display.

The 19-year-old was arguably Nigeria's best performer during a toothless display in which Rabiu Ali twice hit the woodwork as the fancied West Africans struggled to break down Rwanda's disciplined defensive unit.

Faleye, a revelation during the 2016-17 NPFL season for Shooting Stars, was included in Yusuf's squad ahead of some more experienced names, and caught the eye during a vibrant showing against Rwanda.

"He did very well," Yusuf told KweséESPN after the Eagles' stalemate. "He was so tired so I had to rest him as we have to play on our top game, but he's good, he's young, has potential, and I believe he can do much, much better in the next game."

The youngster's most notable contribution was a header in the eighth minute which he sent against the bar after the ball was parried into his path by Rwandan stopper Eric Ndayishimiye.

Beyond that, however, he was Nigeria's key attacking threat, winning a free kick just after the hour mark after the Rwandan backline again resorted to the dark arts to stymie his offensive menace, and again forging an opening soon afterwards when Ndayishimiye could only deflect a teasing cross into Ali's path.

"He needs to be much more focused," Yusuf urged, looking ahead to Nigeria's upcoming showdown with Libya.
"I know he's good in one on ones, but [in front of goal] he needs to be more focused to see that he finishes what he started.

"That's the only sign of a little bit of weakness," the coach continued. "He's come with us for the first time, he was not in CHAN qualification, he was not in the WAFU competition, so maybe that's why he wasn't following the rhythm of the team at times.

"Sometimes we tend to forget about things, but he has potential, and playing at this level for the first time, he did well."

Looking ahead to the rest of Nigeria's CHAN campaign, Yusuf will be hoping that, after eschewing many of the NPFL's more celebrated attacking stars, the forwards he has taken to Morocco can repay his faith.

In Faleye, rough edges and all, he may have just the talent to ensure that absent faces such as Kingsley Eduwo and Sikiru Olatunbosun do not weigh heavy as the Nigerians attempt to win a maiden African Nations Championship.

I don't get you, I repeat winning away is not easy anywhere except you're better than your host. In Nigeria and in the NPFL, almost all the 20 clubs are at par, only like 3-4 can be said to be slightly ahead of the rest so you will need to double your efforts to win away in this scenario.

How is this fact difficult to grasp?

Sure they must be ready to perform effectively this time around if they intend winning.
goldfish80:

Their superiority in the game was further underlined by restricting their opponents to just 2 shots on goal.
I dont expect the team to create 23 chances every game, but if they can get it right, they could go far in this tournament.

Repeat:

Home team will win 8/10 as long as the away team is not stronger or better than them. Except you double your effort as an away team, you can't win away anywhere in the world IF and WHEN you are at PAR or even LESS performing as the home team. Home advantage counts when the away club can't outshine/outperform the home club.

I wonder what NFF expected signing a deal with NTA. I’m not surprised

kentebemoney:

Bro's the quality na NTA standard, no think am, no replay, no action highlight, the commentary na DIE!!! embarassed.

On the good side the football was good. kelly kester just brought in from enyimba added steel to the midfield, breaking up play and creating play with good shot from outside the box. there is one guy, I don't know his name he plays from the left side of the attack, the guy off and on the ball runs is good.
Rangers tried but what made the difference in the game was the quality of the personnel, if akwa united can get their defensive play right the'll mount a serious challenge for the league.

Signing a deal with NTA is the worst decision ever taken by LMC, makes no sense. It would have even made more sense signing deals directly with one private station per state to air their home matches live in each state. This should be possible or don't you think so?

Yes Villarreal won because they did better than Real Madrid, they performed better hence the reason I said away team must double their efforts if they intend winning which Villarreal did. Defended well and attacked efficiently!.

Man City Kayode Joins French Side Amiens On Loan After Failing To Shine At Girona

Nigeria Inter striker Olarewaju Kayode is set to join French Ligue 1 side Amiens on loan from Manchester City for the rest of the 2017/2018 season after struggling to impress at Spanish side Girona.

Kayode joined Man City after emerging as the best player in Austria, after scoring 24 goals for Austrian Wien and he was immediately loaned out to Girona, who are partly owned by Man City.

However, the 24 year old failed to nail down a regular spot in the team, and since the turn of the year he has failed to make the matchday squad for any of their games.

Girona according to several reports terminated his loan deal, leaving City with no option but to search for another loan destination for the forward, who is still not eligible to play for them as he isn’t qualify for a work permit in England yet.

Although there were rumours of interest in his services from teams in Turkey and the Netherlands, Ligue 1 side Amiens have won the race for his signature for the rest of the season.

The former Nigeria youth international is pushing for regular game time in his bid to force his way into the Nigerian team for the World Cup holding in Russia.

Amiens are currently placed 16th on the French Ligue 1 table after 20 games, just two points out of the drop zone in the league, no thanks to the poor conversation rate of their strikers.

They have scored just 16 goals this season, and they will be hoping Kayode recapture same home he displayed at Austria Wien where he scored 17 league goals two years ago.
