Nigeria coach Salisu Yusuf believes that his conservative tactical approach against Libya was a key reason behind the Super Eagles' African Nations Championship victory on Friday.

Sunday Faleye scored the only goal of the game as the home-based Nigeria side beat the North Africans 1-0, winning their first game of the tournament after being held by Rwanda in their opener.

Libya were rampant as they swatted away Equatorial Guinea 3-0 in their first match of the campaign, but looked a shadow of themselves against a Nigeria side that limited their time on the ball and blocked off the channels effectively.

"Our strategy to close down their space worked," Yusuf told journalists after the match. "We watched their games and they're a good possession team, good with the ball.

"Closing down the space gave us the advantage."
It was a cagey contest which Yusuf readily admitted could have gone either way, but while Nigeria lacked creativity themselves, the Eagles coach will be delighted that his stopper Ikechukwu Ezenwa barely had a save to make.

"We played different tactics for the two games," Yusuf added.

"In the other game we played 4-3-3, here we played 4-2-3-1 so that we were always compact centrally.

"This helped us deny Libya getting central penetration," he added. "Our play [out wide] worked well too."
Nigeria now travel to Agadir where they face Equatorial Guinea in their final match, knowing that anything other than defeat would guarantee progression.

"We look forward to the next game with humility and discipline," Yusuf concluded. " We have to work hard - very hard - to beat Equatorial Guinea.

Eagles star Shehu Abdullahi agrees 1.3 million Euros deal with Turkish club Bursaspor


Nigeria international Shehu Abdullahi has agreed a contract for two and half years with Turkish club Bursaspor worth 700,000 Euros.

According to www.anorthosis24.com, Shehu arrived Bursaspor yesterday to hold talks with the chairman where the players, his club Anorthosis Famagusta and the Turkish Super League side agreed a two-year contract which the former Kano Pillars star will pen in following days.

Shehu will pocket 400, 000 Euros per year in the deal that also attracted a transfer fee of 300, 000 Euros.
Anorthosis also proposed a percentage, alongside some other add-ons, should Shehu be sold to another club.
The Cypriot club would also get a bonus of 150, 000 Euros from FIFA as Shehu is a World Cup player.
Shehu returned to Cyprus today to play his last game against Ethnikos Achnas tomorrow.

He’s expected to arrive Turkey on Monday to officially sign his contract.

The Plateau team is a clubside that plays together every week and how many of their best players were missing? CHAN eagles were hurridly assembled with little or no chemistry as at the time they even played the NPFL clubs, for them not to have lost says alot about their quality against clubsides that has the chemistry lacking in the CHAN eagles. I hope you understand where I'm coming from?

This was why I made mention of the Japanese league all starts that lost 7:3 to an unknown 4-5th division side from Australia.

Emeka Ogbugh has been our best player going forward, he gets past his marker at will and his crosses are dangerous. Okpotu will be more dangerous if he played along side Mustapha Ibrahim. Also Dayo Ojo changed the match with his introduction, he brought in urgency.

That's to say they are a quality side even though they were just coming together then. Plateau UTD is the NPFL defending champs

Okpotu to play alongside Mustapha Ibrahim? Will Salisu employ such tactics? I think that is proposing a 4-4-2 right or a 3-5-2?

And yeah, Ogbugh's crosses are almost always well placed. Dude is trying too. There are still flashes of certain brilliance in the team despite all the team still lacks.
