I never really understood this until two weeks ago when one of the physiotherapists was telling us why he left Dolphins. For security reasons I'd rather not mention the northern teams they were playing against and they were winning 2-0, early in the second half, the crowd didn't do much, they just sat still but if you look through the crowd you'd notice a quick circulation of some items, they didn't take it serious initially that was until around the 80mins when the fans started exposing the said items(he called them sickles used in harvesting rice grin). The news was immediately circulated to the ref but he said he was not going to bulge but call the match down the middle, 88mins on the clock and they had already chased away the few visiting fans and that was when my friend started thinking about his young wife and his kid and even the away team started begging the ref to award penalties to the home team
Lol...my brother...I perfectly believe all you wrote but my brother somehow will still doubt it.

I remember one kano pillars match...I watched they were loosing a goal nil @ sani abacha staduim when one of the specatators I supposed or FA official entered into the pitch slapped the ref and asked him to award a penalty...which he did even though there was no serious offense...that was how they equalised...the goal deficits....

the Nigeria league need serious overhaul I don't even support using the police for securities..they've been cases where the police have been held culpable...some police officials are even fans of some of this home teams and as such turn a blind eye to this atrocities...more still the northerners here.....don't fear the police..at all...the only force officials they tend to have reverence for...is the military...
so the military should be used for securities....the LMC should enter into an agreement wit the military...like sponsorship agreement .

I never said it didn't happen, all I said remains, most of what people use in judging the league are incidence that happened pre-LMC. Do they still happen? Yes but as rare as possible. In a complete league season under LMC, we get to witness less than 8 of such unlike before that we witness more than 25. I hope you're getting my angle?

So when people talk about the league, I simply ask them if it's the ones that happened years ago or the few ones happening of recent.

We should understand that bad habits don't die overnight, it takes time for rehabilitation take effect.

It will take time before Nigerians (your fellow citizens) grow up and become civilized so as to view football as entertainment and not war.

The two crosses Faleye set up for Okpotu and Oghugh were not dangerous?

If those crosses had gotten to better players I am sure you won't be saying what u are saying.

Overall, that team does not have any player I would call a danger man. Not even the Faleye.

Compare this CHAN team with Keshi's CHAN team of 2014 then you know what I am talking about.

Okpotu should have put his header on target but nobody would score from those crosses unless u can bring the ball down to the feet.

I didn't talk about a danger man or compare this team to any team. I said Ogbugh has been the best forward going by the 2 games.

Dealing with hooliganism is very easy. Just 2 things is enough. Deduct points from erring parties as much as 6 points, then banish them to one remote venue to play closed doors. You will see that all that nonsense will stop. No one wants to lose points. That i can promise you.

He made a game high 9 tackles the last time out against Chelsea I think too... Now again he hits 7... He could as well finish as the EPL's top tackler ahead of even Kante. Lad is likely big-team bound post-Russia.

CHELSEA'S VICTOR MOSES SCORES FIRST ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE GOAL OF THE SEASON
By Taiye Taiwo, Correspondent

After 1,248 minutes of action in the league, the Nigeria international registered his first effort in the 2017-18 campaign

Victor Moses found the back of the net for the first time this season as Chelsea hammered Brighton and Hove Albion 4-0 in Saturday’s English Premier League tie.

The wing-back’s effort in the 89th minute sealed the Blues’ first win in the league this year after settling for draws against Arsenal and Leicester City.

Moses was benefitted from a Charly Musonda clever pass and made no mistake to put the ball past goalkeeper Matthew Ryan after a fine control inside the penalty area.

Willian’s opening goal and Eden Hazard’s goals in each half of the encounter secured maximum points for the Stamford Bridge outfit after a dominating display at the Amex Stadium.

Moses who has made 17 league appearances this season, will be hoping to build on his performance when Antonio Conte’s charges welcome Bournemouth in their next league outing on January 31.

Chelsea moved up to the third spot in the league table with 50 points from 24 games.

ALEX IWOBI ON TARGET IN ARSENAL’S DEMOLITION OF CRYSTAL PALACE
By Gbenga Adewoye, Correspondent

The Nigeria international registered his second league goal as the Gunners brushed aside the Eagles at the Emirates Stadium
Alex Iwobi got his name on the scoresheet in Arsenal’s 4- 1 victory over Crystal Palace in Saturday’s English Premier League encounter.

The Gunners went on a 22-minute rampage in the first half, scoring all their four goals against the Eagles within that period.
Nacho Monreal opened the scoring for Arsene Wenger’s men four minutes after the kick-off when he headed home Granit Xhaka’s corner kick.

Iwobi doubled the lead in the sixth minute when he fired in from close range after previously forcing a safe from goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.

Laurent Koscielny increased the scoreline after benefiting from another shambolic Palace defending and Alexandre Lacazette notched the fourth goal following a fine combination with Mesut Ozil.

On return from the first-half break, Luka Milivojevic scored a consolation in the 77th minute.

Iwobi was replaced by Sead Kolasinac with eight minutes left to play while Egypt international Mohamed Elneny featured from start to finish.

Cote d'ivoire’s Wilfried Zaha and Mali’s forward Bakary Sako were on parade for the Eagles throughout the duration of the game but could not save Roy Hodgson’s side from the defeat.

Arsenal will next clash with Chelsea in Wednesday’s League Cup tie while Crystal Palace will travel to London Stadium to keep a date with West Ham United in their next top-flight duel on January 30.

CHAN 2018: Nigeria look good for quarter-final berth, but can still be better

by Emmanuel Okogba

Vanguard News | January 20, 2018

The home-based Super Eagles face Equatorial Guinea on Tuesday knowing they are just a step away from Nigeria’s second-ever quarter-final berth at the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

In this ongoing fifth edition of the competition in Morocco, newcomers Equatorial Guinea stand between them and a place in the knock out round in their final group game at Agadir.

After a disappointing barren draw against Rwanda on Monday, the Eagles have not appeared with the intent to take charge of the group.

A lone goal victory against Libya on Friday helped to displace the table-toppers, and they now only need to avoid defeat against Equatorial Guinea to progress.

They should be aware that a loss is dangerous, as Libya can go on to draw with Rwanda for both sides to advance ahead of Nigeria on goals difference.

But a win is necessary on Tuesday to get to seven points and an opportunity to head into the last eight as group leaders.

The task before the Eagles may however look quite easy, but with Rwanda looking hot and just a point separating Libya from the joint table-table toppers, the Eagles cannot afford any slip-up.

The Amavubis would be nursing the very lofty ambition of finishing top of the group so as to avoid meeting Group D winners who could be any of their regional rivals.

Libya, after a bright start, will fight till the last with the hope that Nigeria will slip up.

The Eagles therefore must avoid any form of complacency and affirm their qualification by winning Group C, and only a massive win over Equatorial Guinea can ensure this.

One stark reality from the Eagles’ two matches is lack of goals, which may quite rightly be a reflection of the local league.

In the NPFL, the average number of goals per match is two, and one of them most often would come from the penalty kick spot.

Teams which score goals commit players to the opponents’ area, with a creative midfield standing before a solid defence.

Apart from during set-pieces, the Eagles normally had just two players in the box against Libya, and if they continue like this, they will continue to struggle to get goals.

If there is one thing the Super Eagles must get right in their subsequent matches, it is their finishing.

They registered more than 24 shots against the Amavubis, but ended up with not even a single goal.

As much as they will need goals against Equatorial Guinea, they will much more need them in the quarter-finals and beyond.

In spite of the seeming inadequacies in the first game, coach Salisu Yusuf kept faith with the same starting line-up against Libya, and this shows his confidence in them.

Hopefully, they will make amends with a better showing against Equatorial Guinea who are yet to open their goal scoring account but have conceded four goals in the championship so far.

However, the best for the Eagles going forward may be to rest key players like Anthony Okpotu and Rabiu Ali.

This is to avoid them picking up injuries like the one suffered by Ifeanyi Ifeanyi.

Clearly, Emeka Ogbugh is the most technical forward in the CHAN team, especially as he has been able to see and exploit opportunities, especially on breakaways.

But he has been backing himself into cul-de-sac.

The coaching staff must tutor the Rivers United forward on how he should deploy his technical ability to help the team create more fruitful goal scoring chances and also score.

The team can obviously improve in all aspects, though the defensive foundation of Stephen Eze and Orji Okagbue in central defence is already in place.

However, Yusuf will have to tinker with his midfield and attack to get the best out of these set of players.

The championship which began on Jan. 13 is expected to end on Feb. 4.(NAN)
