Despite the mixed reactions trailing former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, traders in Kano thursday vowed to support the president for second term.

Addressing journalists at the Kano National Union of Journalists (NUJ) press centre, the President of the traders union, Alhaji Bature Abdulaziz, stated that despite the fundamental human right of opinion possessed by Obasanjo, the former president was not in tune with the reality of the situation in the country.

Bature, who noted that the union was not partisan, stressed that the President Buhari government has revamped the rail system and road network across the country.

He insisted that considering Buhari’s relentless efforts to turn around the fortune of the country, the president deserves second term in office.

The traders, under the umbrella of National Harmonised Traders Union, posited that their support for the president is hinged on the unprecedented growth recorded so far in the area of economy, agriculture and security in less than three years.

According to them, “We thank God for granting the president wisdom to decisively fight insecurity to a halt and begins to fight the evils of our time and exposing perpetrators of violence in Nigeria.

“We want to congratulate the president for revamping the rail transport system to a 21st century standard, which when fully operational, will boost growth in the commerce sector thereby facilitating easy flow of rail traffic across the country. It will also ease the sufferings of travelers.

“We have also noticed a significant improvement in the energy sector but we expect more to be done as that sector is a major key to commerce, industry and trade in the country.”

Bature however cautioned the federal government to do more on high cost of Customs tariff and duties on imported goods.

The union also appealed to state governors in the North to give the traders sense of belonging as well as contribute as partner in progress.

Ethnic and religious mentality. They prefer to suffer than to support a credible leader. May God help this country.

Part of the reasons one laughs at fools down south who think they would easily unseat Buhari from folks who had been voting for him consistently one way since 2003 - and would all of a sudden, not vote for him in 2019. undecided

Y'all saw 'change' as 'change' while they, as the political astute ones attuned to how Nigerian federal politics is played, saw 'change' as 'power grab from the south to the north, four years ahead schedule'.

Because of that miscalculation by the political naiveté of the south, the north would most likely that not, be at helm of the country from 2015 to 2023 at the earliest - or 2027 at the latest - except something out of the ordinary occurs.

Ditto what happened in the battle for Speaker in 2011 (where SW politicians sabotaged one of their own) and 2015 (where SE and SS politicians returned the favour from the fallout of the presidential elections).

The south is politically divided - and that is to the advantage of the north.

SE and SS will deliver block votes as usual.
SW will be 50:50 as usual.
NE and NW will deliver block votes as usual.

The real game changer is the middle-belt. Whoever wins there will become president next May - "provided the election is free and fair."
