The sight shown here about the Nigerian Universities, if it is true, I think it is high time, Nigeria Government get its ash together to get over these disgusting sight of the Nigerian Universities. If I may ask, is it because we as Nigerian, are not patriotic and do not really love our country that we allow certain things to happen as they do. In oversea university, Nigerian are striving a great deal as many of them often with first class. And what this tends to mean is that Nigerian are brilliant people whether the devil like it or not. Then why are we so lacking in tackling these basic discrepancies, in our education, environment, power and name it. We need to upgrade our level of reflection.. And I think if we cannot maintain Universities, we can as well limit the numbers. |

And what are all these able-bodied students doing? Are they not the ones who litter, and break public facilities? They can't say, "OK we ourselves will dig a pit for trash and organize ourselves to cleanup. We should also encourage each other not to litter". They can't say, "OK, these water tanks and stands are filthy... let us wash and bleach it" Chemistry students can't clean up after themselves and keep their OWN lab clean and neat? Architecture students can't be bothered to look for screws to reattach desktops? Or band together and get plywood? Students can't be bothered to remove the old postings and scrub the walls clean? Students can't be bothered to keep their OWN grounds neat and organized? What's the student union in these schools doing? Sitting around jisting and flinging groundnut husks and empty pure water sachets around. What happened to all the dues students pay? Sure, there's the issue of lack of budget, corruption, and diversion of funds in the administration, but I think the fact that the students can't organize and get off their lazy ass to fix some of the simpler issues, is symptomatic of the Nigerian problem at large, where most people want things done for them, where they can't ask "what can I do to improve things". Only to party and look for somebody to support their lazy, selfish, self-pitying selves, and then get upset when there's no handout. Where's the self-motivation to improve yourselves? Are these our future leaders? Those who will not standup to fix those easy things that can be accomplished in a few weekends? It's this same mentality that sees a huge mansion with fancy cars, yet the access road to it is all-but impassible. It's this same mentality that leads to washing your hands with Andre, yet your brother/sister/mother is lucky to see garri to eat. Or you will floss with the latest phone, yet you will be begging for indomie. Misplaced priorities, unwillingness to see beyond the here and now, inability for self-directed improvement, and a depressing inability to plan for the future (beyond I want a job that pays well so I can buy car and party all weekend). We are our own worst enemies, from how we pick our leaders, to how we treat each other, to how we maintain and improve our environments. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

The poor infrastructure is just the robe...it is what the robe covers that reveals the true rot or more accurately death of the Nigerian academic system! Many university lecturers; some of them professors, senior lecturers etc, cannot successfully handle a UTME class let alone a class full of students preparing for their A/Levels. No soul that has been to a Nigerian university, particularly since the year 2000, will claim that he/she has not written the dictation of a lecturer from textbooks...that is why a first class Applied Physics graduate will gladly work in a bank as a so called executive! 1 Like 1 Share |
