In Rare Letter, Benedict XVI Says He's 'on Pilgrimage Home ' by Shaev7(m): 4:52pm On Feb 07, 2018
In a rare new letter penned by Benedict XVI, the retired pontiff said he is in the last phase of his life, and while his physical strength might be waning, he is surrounded by a “love and goodness” that he never imagined.

“I can only say that at the end of a slow decline in physical strength, inwardly I am in pilgrimage home,” Benedict XVI said in the letter, published Feb. 7 in Italian daily Corriere della Sera.

He said that “it's a great grace for me to be to be surrounded in this last piece of the road, which is at times a bit tiring, by a love and goodness that I could never have imagined.”

Benedict addressed the letter to Italian journalist Massimo Franco of Corriere della Sera, who was charged with the task of presenting the retired pontiff with letters expressing concern and asking about his well-being five years after resigning from the papacy.

He shocked the world when he announced his resignation Feb. 11, 2013, declaring that the See of Peter would be vacant as of 8p.m. on Feb. 28. A conclave was called to name his successor, and on March 13, 2013, Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elected Bishop of Rome, and took the name Francis.

In his letter, published Feb. 7 on the front page of Corriere della Sera, Benedict said he was moved that so many readers from the paper “want to know how I've spent this last period of my life.”

He said he considers the questions and concerns of the readers part of the love he has experienced, and sees them as “an accompaniment” on the last phase of his life.

“Because of this,” he said, “I cannot but be thankful, on my part assuring you all of my prayers. Best regards.”

Go forth, Christian soul, from this world in the name of God the almighty Father, who created you, in the name of Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, who suffered for you, in the name of the Holy Spirit, who was poured out upon you, go forth, faithful Christian. May you live in peace this day, may your home be with God in Zion, with Mary, the Virgin Mother of God, with Joseph, and all the Angels and Saints. Amen

Whether we live or die, we are the Lord's. (Rom 14:cool

Pope, sir. Pls repent from your sins and ask Jesus into your life before you die. It's very important that you have the New Life Christ came to offer.

You believed and worshipped Mary and the Dead saints, that will not get you into heaven. Confess all the fornication you committed with the nuns and all the abortions you made them commit.

Very soon sir, you will meet Him who has no respect of persons. Be sure not to to told, Depart from you worker of iniquity.

Sir, the Pope practiced Hellenism and Hellenism is far from Christianity. The celibacy of priesthood is not Jewish but Hellenistic.

Have you seek for God's mercy and forgiveness before you ask the Pope to do that? Have you removed the spec from your eyes before you saw that of Pope's? Have you ever in your life try to examine your conscience? If the Pope seek for God's mercy, will you know? Did the Catholic Church doctrines states She worship Mary, have you ever heard it before?
Please, elucidate more in your opinion because its very opaque. In fact, I can't find any point there than 'criticism' which the church faces daily. Yours will not and never count. #Heretical

No. It's not. It's Hellenistic. The kind of Prieathood Catholicism practices is Hellenistic. Celibacy in Priesthood is Hellenistic not Biblical.

Did Jesus Christ marry? Please don't get me wrong, and am not saying Jesus practised celibacy, but the Church decided to act in line with Jesus, so I don't know where your own perspective came from.

Shouldn't you drop scriptures to back up your claims? Its not celibacy, but celibacy of the priesthood. I'm celibate, am not a catholic.

celibacy is allowed for all classes of Catholics both priest and none priests, marriage too is contracted by Catholics whether priests or none priests.

but the beautiful thing is that the Bible teaches that the best state that can be chosen in serving God is the celibate state... celibacy is the better state if one wishes to serve God, it is a preferred state, that is biblical.

1 cor 7:32
I want you to be free from anxieties. The
unmarried man is anxious about the affairs of the
Lord, how to please the Lord; but the married
man is anxious about the affairs of the world, how
to please his wife, and his interests are
divided. And the unmarried woman and the virgin
are anxious about the affairs of the Lord, so that
they may be holy in body and spirit; but the
married woman is anxious about the affairs of the
world, how to please her husband. I say this
for your own benefit, not to put any restraint upon
you, but to promote good order and unhindered
devotion to the Lord.

the most beneficial state according to scripture is the unmarried state and it is cherished as such by the Catholic Church while we have married priests celibacy is still a preferred state in service of God.

this is what Paul taught and the Early Christians immediately took up that teaching as their writing bear witness thus making celibacy a distinct Christian practice especially for priests and virgins.

funny enough even though celibacy is a distinct Christian practice it actually has Jewish roots if you read up the early Church, continence and celibacy went hand in hand.

Shouldn't you have equally dropped Scriptures to prove that clerical celibacy is wrong? Just asking.

You didn't get it. Celibacy is not wrong, but who or where in Scriptures are you basing your clerical celibacy because it was never practiced whether by the Jews or early Christians, but by Hellenists.

You have no issues with celibacy, but you do have issues with clerical celibacy. My question is, if celibacy isn't wrong, what makes clerical celibacy wrong? Does the Scripture say it is wrong or are you simply prejudiced?

my dear, apart from the writers of the Bible how many early Christians do you know who wrote works?

should I take this to mean you disagree with Paul who teaches that celibacy is the preferred state for service to God?

Paul was celibate some other apostles were married.

those who were already married kept their wives those who weren't like Paul learnt the preferability of the celibate life.

there are still married priest in my Church but as scriptures say the celibate life is preferable.

What is wrong is, there's no where YHWH instituted celibacy for the Priesthood. All the priest married.

We see Celibacy in the priesthood only in the Hellenistic pagan religions

Who were these early Christians? I hope you know the Priesthood was an Old Covenant Oder? They stood to do what Christ should do and as Christ came, their office became obsolete? In this New Covenant Christ is the High Priest and everyone of us, a priest.

Christ was the Lamb they kept sacrificing. When Christ was Sacrificed, all their job ended.

The Catholic Priesthood is still functional because her gods and goddesses have nothing to do with the finished work of Christ
