We need one or two more players who can hold the ball and do something with it in the opposition half. Sanchez has proven that we need ball holders in our team.

To be fûcking honest!!!

Just look at that Sallah's 2nd goal against Spurs last week. Typical "something out of nothing scenario". A typical Lingard or Rashford at that moment would ve rushed the shot and ended up playing rubbish. Martial and Sanchez(Maybe Mata) are players in our team that are close to that level.

Mata no join. He is just a good passer. Martial is a good forward dribbler, but he is not strong on the ball.

surprisingly Lingard is more likely to score that goal than some people you mentioned there. look at his goal at Watford and Everton. it's also from nothing.

Those ones were solo runs/long range shots against mumu opponents sef.

We re talking of someone that can hold on to the ball and dance around 2+ defenders in tight spaces!!

Which Martial is not strong on the ball?

Just to mention a few,
His first goal vs Liverpool..
The penalty he won us against Everton at OT this season...

I've seen Martial wiggle his way out of tight spots in similar fashion to the way Sallah did against Spurs.

Martial is not strong with possession. Using another language. He loses idea of self expression if he tries to keep the ball long and so he loses it or resort to safe pass . Matic, Valencia and Bailly are the only ones strong on the ball before the arrival of Sanchez. But Sanchez is the only one who can keep it in opposition's half.

In Chelsea, Hazard, Willian are strong on the ball. Moses is still trying.
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 1:44pm On Feb 10, 2018
What I am talking is ability to hold the ball, turn with it, go past one man still holding it and creating space for your co-attackers, pass move and ask for the ball. Keep it again. You might make mistakes sometimes because it is like every ball is looking for you. You are under pressure, you carry everyone along in the final 3rd.

Martial is one who wants to dribble direct and score. If he is not doing that, he is worse than Lingard. He doesn't keep the ball for more than a few seconds when there is no forward run/dribble on. If he tries to keep the ball he ends up on one option slow play and pass back.

SMH!

Dey there dey call defenders. Matic, Valencia, Bailly are strong but am sure none of them can wrestle the ball away from Messi.

Abi whats ur own definition of strength on the ball?? If its by sheer strength, then we should kuku go and sign John Cena and Great Khali!!

You are not making sense.

Messi is strong on the ball. I have told you the area which these defenders are strong on the ball. Abi no be same defence Smalling, Jones, Rojo, Darmian dey play with those players?

Messi can keep the ball for long without resorting to safe pass at the end. The moment Martial can't dribble forward, just watch, he is useless. He passes back to Shaw or Young or another safe pass. Not same for Sanchez.

You are the one not making sense here. Or maybe u just dont like Martial.

But no worry. When i get on my laptop i'll try to upload more gifs of Martial dribbling forward past defenders and making safe passes.....into THE NET!!

That is 3 seconds forward play which he struggled with like a buldozer. Even Smalling sometimes have such play.

You are mistaking my 'strong on the ball' to mean shoulder to shoulder play or chop-well play. It is not about muscle, it is about asking for the ball often using tricks to keep it for long while creating space in the final 3rd.

What I meant is the moment forward dribbling is not going well for Martial, he turns back, slows the play and make safe (weak) pass to Shaw or Young.

In same circumstance, Salah might find another way to zigzag his way to the front of the box or turning shiftly to cause problems and open spaces.

Martial is still young sha.
