Thank you all for the enlightenment however I need to clear my doubts on certain things;
I currently work with a bank here -9 years of experience to be precise and I'm going to resign to give this opportunity a try as we have been looking for such avenues to migrate to give a solid platform to our kids,
1. I'm planning to buy a few braided wigs to sell while looking for a job in Sydney. I don't have anyone there but I plan to join a parish of our home church over there asap, would you consider this a good venture and any immigration law against importing such.
2. We will be given accommodation for abt 2 weeks to enable us search for ours, I was impressed with Bexley NSW 2207 reviews online cos of the schools and proximity to the CBD where hubby will be working, anyone in this area? What are your pros and cons associated with living there?
3. I'm torn in between knowing what to buy from here for the kids, can o buy school bags, lunch boxes, food flasks and a few other accessories to start d kids on over there?

May I add that anti malaria is invaluable, bring packs along when coming, you may not find it here.

@Onizea,

It is better to bring important things than clog your baggage allowance with stuff you can easily get here. You can get all the school accessories at a cheap price here, no need to bring them. Go to Kmart, BigW, cheap as chips or reject shop to buy those stuff.

Am in a preparation stage and have few questions to ask to clear my doubts.

1. Is it better and cheaper to buy clothes in Nigeria or leave it when I reach Australia we will shop

2. Can I carry dry fish along(what foodstuff is allowed)

3. I have been looking for disability certification to undergo while waiting till June when we finally go (I want to do this course in case of necessity)

4. Are there mosquito un Australia, should I carry my net come because I have a toddler...

Clothes are expensive, however, you can still get cheap good clothes. Depending on the quality you want, for everyday clothes you can buy from Kmart, BigW, Target, Salvo stores, Op shops. For average quality you can buy from Rivers, Ed Harry. For upper average, Connors (Men only), Meyers, David Jones etc.
Summary is, you can always find something that meets your needs and taste.

2. Yes.. most food stuff are allowed as long as you label them and declare them. That being said, some states will not allow you to bring in beans except you can proof it doesn't have the weevil. Also anything that has bark of a tree is not allowed in.

3. No clarity on what you want us to say about it.

4. There are mosquitoes but there is no anopheles mosquito which transmits the malaria parasite. You may come with malaria drug to clear your system of malaria residue.

That was his opinion.

My opinion is that he went too far and exagerated a lot trying to manage pple’s expectations, at least he should have compared Australia to Nigeria where I believe most pple on this thread live.

As someone noted earlier in this thread, prepare when coming anyway. It might not be as you expect job wise when you just come in, but it will be after some time and that is the case with many migrants at first regardless of skin color.

I have been here only 3 months and wish I have been here years ago; things work in this country. I am the only black person in my company & have never experienced racism; at least for now rather they want to know more about my country and culture.

I encourage everyone on this quest not to relent,

Regarding braided wigs, I think you should start by bringing a few when you are coming to see how you fare, then you can order for more subsequently, just to minimize your risk (the black population here is very low and fashion doesn't seem to be our priority as I found . For information on bringing in commercial quantity, you should be able to get this on the Australian border and customs website.

On living in Bexley, I have never been there but I looked it up and its not far from the city as you found, however, you can find information on suburb review on www.homely.com.au

I see so many people are asking about braided wigs. let me add my experience and use the opportunity to sell my remaining market. I was in Aussie for 2weeks b/w Jan. 25th to Feb 8th for my brothers wedding. I came in with 6 braided wigs(3 shoulder length and 3 slightly above bra length). My sis-inlaw helped me put it up on a facebook selling site. I was only able to sell 4pcs while i was there. so i still have 2 (1 short&1long) left. The colours I have left are 1 black (short) and Colour 27/1 ie black/purple (long). The wigs are very neatly braided with closure. U can send me a pm if u want them at a give away price cos they are the last ones. Location is Perth Western Australia. Back to the questions: No body harrassed me for carrying the wigs o and I had them in my hand luggage. They only threw away my mum's dried vegetables she tried begging the cbp he told her to go to Coles and buy vegetables�. On whether it is a viable business, My dear if u no get power to talk plenty please keep ur money. I didn't really make much profit compared to the ones I sold in the US. Maybe becos I had a short period and I was in a hurry to sell off. I hope this helps.
