Exclusive – Rosenborg To Announce Signing Of 2016 Nigeria U17 Captain Igho Ogbu Today



Norwegian side Rosenborg will later in the day confirm the signing of Nigerian teen prospect Igho Ogbu, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Ogbu has been training with the team for some time now, and after reaching the official professional age of 18 in February. His signing will be made official later today.

The defensive midfielder who can also play as a central defender has impressed the technical crew of the team during training sessions with the first team, and he is expected to sign a five year deal.
His signing means the Norwegian giants now have two Nigerians on their book following the signing of Samuel Adegbenro midway through the season last week from fellow Norwegian side Viking .

Standing at an impressive height of almost six feet tall, he represented Gombe United last season but left the club midway into their campaign in the Nigeria Professional Football League, where they were eventually relegated.

A member of the 2016 Nigeria U17 team, he was one of the three captains of the team that failed to qualify for the African Nations Championship. However from that same team he is the 8th player who have moved to an European team from the players assembled by Nigeria U17 coach Manu Garba.

Flying Eagles Await Sierra Leone Or Guinea Bissau In U-20 AFCON Qualifiers

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will face the winners of the first round of the tie between Sierra Leone and Guinea Bissau after being drawn bye in the Niger 2019 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

According to cafonline.com, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Sudan, Zambia, Congo, South Africa, Mali, Angola, Egypt, Gambia and Cameroon are some of the other countries drawn bye in the first round.

Guinea Bissau will host Sierra Leone between 30 March and April 1 and travel to Freetown for the return leg scheduled for April 20- 22.

The Flying Eagles will then play away to the overall winners of this first round tie on May 11, 12 or 13 and the return leg in Nigeria will be played between 18, 19, and 20 of May

The winners of the first and second round feature in the final round scheduled between 13, 14, 15 of July and second leg will be played between 20, 21, and 22 of July 2018

The final tournament will be hosted by Niger in 2019 with the four semi-finalists qualifying for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, whose host will be announced next month.

The Flying Eagles, now coached by Paul Aigbogun, failed to qualify for the last AFCON and World Cup after losing to Sudan in the qualifiers.

The Confederation of African Football revealed the draw for the qualifiers on Monday, with the two giants - who met in the African Nations Championship final earlier this month - set to miss out on the U-20 showpiece.

Morocco have been drawn against neighbours Mauritania in the First Round, with the winner of that match set to face Guinea in the Second Round.

While Paul Aigbogun's Nigeria have received a bye to the Second Round and should be favourites against either Sierra Leone or Guinea-Bissau, they've been placed on a collision course with Morocco - and a potential CHAN rematch in the offing in the Third Round.

The Flying Eagles are the most successful side in the competition's history, having won the tournament a record seven times, while also reaching a further two finals. They last clinched the cup in 2015.

The tournament will be the 15th edition of the U-20 Championships, or the 22nd if tournaments without hosts are also considered.

Other intriguing First Round ties include a derby between Algeria and Tunisia, with the winner set to face Ghana in the Second Round, and a meeting between Kenya and Rwanda for the chance to face holders Zambia in Round Two.

South Africa will face the winners of Seychelles vs. Mozambique before meeting one of Malawi, Swaziland or Angola in the Third Round, a tie which offers hope for Young Bafana Bafana.

Elsewhere, Senegal, second place in 2017, and Egypt will meet in
the Second Round after receiving byes, with Botswana, Namibia or Congo-Brazzaville then set to stand in their way in the Third Round.

Aigbogun who was recently named head coach of the Nigeria U-20 side no doubt has a tough task ahead of him going by the two teams’ busy schedules.

Enyimba are competing for three trophies this season, the NPFL, CAF Confederation Cup and Aiteo Federation Cup.

The Flying Eagles will also be busy as they bid to qualify for 2019 African U-20 Nations Cup billed for Niger.

But the former Warri Wolves handler is adamant he has the ability to handle the two teams and become successful.

“I know some people will ask questions about combining my job at Enyimba with that of the national team. It is a tough task but it’s something I can do,” Aigbogun told CSN.

“In a situation like this, it is always important to have capable assistants who can take charge of the team while you are away which I already have in Enyimba.

“Then, it is important to have a laid down plan which makes things easy for you. For now, my mind is on our (Enyimba) CAF Confederation Cup game against Energie FC of Benin Republic next Wednesday.

“When it is time to work with the Flying Eagles, I will concentrate on that fully and we will build a strong squad capable of doing the nation proud.”

3. Cool headed & Tactically ‎Sound

If there’s one area where the coach has an edge over his contemporaries, it has to be his ability to stay calm under pressure. A very vital tool in the management of young footballers.

Flying Eagles Coaches Unsatisfied With Goalkeepers At Their Disposal, Wants More Options



The Technical crew of the Under-20 national team of Nigeria, who are presently in training ahead of their upcoming engagement in the qualifiers for the Africa Youth Championship are not entirely satisfied with the goalkeepers they have in camp.

Presently they have three goalkeepers in camp but none has really lived up to expectations after two weeks of training, hence the coaches have commenced the search for more options.

Owngoalnigeria.com correspondent who has been watching the team in training confirmed the unhappiness of the coaches with the goalkeepers available to them since the start of training two weeks ago.

” I have spoken with the Technical crew and as much as they are satisfied with options available to them in almost all departments. The area of goalkeeping is a big concern for them”, Owngoalnigeria.com Ade Emmanuel revealed.

” At the moment there are three goalkeepers in the camp, one from Kogi, United and a former U17 goalkeeper are among them. However none of them have been really impressive. The coaches are worried.

” A member of the Technical crew confirmed to me that for now, that is their biggest concern as other areas of the team are not as bad as that of the area of goalkeeping “.

Fast Rising Niger Tornadoes Winger Babawo Among Eight New Players In Flying Eagles Camp




A total of eight new players who were not in the initial list of called up by coach of the Nigeria U20 team Paul Aigbogun are currently training with the team in Abuja, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Among them is fast rising Niger Tornadoes winger Babawo Ibrahim who has caught the eyes this season with his performances for the Minna based side in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

The absence of some of the players invited by the Paul Aigbogun led crew of the Nigeria U20 team due to club commitments have lead to the coach calling up other players to make up the numbers
in training.

Maxwell Junior of Enyimba is also in the camp of the team, who are preparing for their upcoming Africa Youth Championship Qualifiers tie later in the year, where they will be aiming to go a step further than the Emmanuel Amuneke lead team of 2015.


It is expected that as many as eight players will be dropped in an elimination by substitution style of picking the best players to represent Nigeria at the level, where Nigeria have twice conquered Africa in (more) recent times.

Bologna Teen Star Kingsley Michael, Villarreal Samuel Chukwueze Top List Of Foreign Players For U20



The Nigeria Under-20 national team coach Paul Aigbogun will in the coming months call up some foreign based players to his squad, who are currently in Abuja training ahead of the start of qualifiers for the Africa Youth Championship.

Owngoalnigeria.com gathered that the coach is focused on using players from clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League and also the Nigeria National League for the main time, before calling some foreign based players to join them.

Already training has been on for two weeks, and top sources revealed to Owngoalnigeria.com that, the second phase of their training will involve foreign based players who are within the age limit.

Furthermore, head coach of the team Paul Aigbogun has a list of players eligible for the team, with the duo of Bologna teen sensation Kingsley Michael, and Villarreal super teen Samuel Chukwueze included in the list.

The duo were part of the Nigerian team that failed to qualify for the last U-20 World Youth Championship, a year after they played a very big role in helping Nigeria lift the U17 World Cup .

Flying Eagles In Focus – Goalkeepers Crisis, Lack Of Central Defenders & MFM Striker Jesse Akila



The Flying Eagles of Nigeria who are presently fine tuning preparations for their upcoming engagement later in the year have some issues which Owngoalnigeria.com have noticed from their training sessions.

Coached by Enyimba FC of Aba head coach Paul Aigbogun, the team currently have some challenges which the Technical Crew are battling to resolve before the commencement of competitive games, particularly the qualifiers for the Africa Youth Championship.

As said in one of our reports, the team are not secured in the area of goalkeeping as none of the four shot stoppers in camp have given the coaches what they needed in goal. No thanks to the fact that MFM FC shot stopper Ospino Egbe dropped out due to discrepancies in his documentation.

Also dearth of quality young central defenders in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has also affected the crew, with only two central defenders initially listed before two more were called up. Despite the increase in numbers, the coaches are not convinced by what they have in camp now.

MFM FC of Lagos forward Jesse Akila appears to be the best the team have in attack now, a factor which has contributed to the low amount of goals scored during their sessions. A chat with one of the coaches revealed they have asked scouts to identify players who could help expand their options in attack.

Wasiu Alalade, Ikouwem Udoh Power Flying Eagles To Win Over FC Abuja In First Friendly Game




Coach Paul Aigbogun and his recently assembled U20 team of Nigeria won their first test game by beating FC Abuja 2-1 in a friendly game decided at the practice pitch of the Goal Project in Abuja.

The team who have been in training for three weeks under the guidance of the Enyimba coach started the game with intent to win, with Wasiu Alalade giving them an early lead.

Ikouwem Udoh increased the goal tally for the Flying Eagles less than 20 minutes into the game, and it could have been more but wastefulness in front of goal made them go into the break leading 2-0.

Nigeria National League (NNL) side FC Abuja scored what ended as a consolation as the Flying Eagles hanged on to claim a win in their first test game as they step up their preparations for their upcoming competitive engagements.

Later in the year they are expected to take part in a tournament in Egypt, all as part of preparations for the qualifiers of the African Youth Championship, which they failed to qualify for last year under the guidance of coach Emmanuel Amuneke.


Amuneke’s team lost on the away goal rule after losing 3-2 in Lagos, a fortnight after they beat Sudan 2-0 in Khartoun, no thanks to the water logged pitch they played the return leg in Lagos.

Bournemouth Confirms Invitation Of Teenage Midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh By Flying Eagles Coach

Highly rated Bournemouth teen midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh has been called up by the coach of the Nigeria U20 team who are preparing for the qualifiers for the 2019 African Youth Championship.


18 year old Ofoborh penned a two and a half year deal with the Premier League outfit in December, a year after joining them from Millwall, the team he joined after leaving Tottenham Hotspur.

He travelled with the first team of Bournemouth for their Premier League clash against Swansea City. A sign of how much he has impressed coach Eddie Howe with his performances for the Under-18s and 21s.

Ofoborh becomes the first foreign based player to be called up coach Paul Aigbogun who is presently with the team in Egypt, where they are going to play two friendly games against their Egyptian counterparts.

Already, their first game ended in a 0-0 draw earlier today, with the second game billed for Wednesday before Ofoborh will join up with the squad upon their return from Egypt on Friday.
