I am sorry to say

If Rohr would carry both Echeijile and Akpeyi to the world cup, then we are screwed...No more!...No Less!!

Echeijile on his own is -1. Age has caught up with him. Even in his prime, he has never driven any attack, he can't cross the ball, he can't effectively pull-out a long pass, he can't score. He will be a big liabilty instead in Russia. The young boys in the likes of Ola aina, Shehu, Idowu, and Ebuehi are way currently better than him defensively and are still 3-steps better going forward by driving our attack, pull-in pinpoint crosses and can score as well.

On Akpeyi,

This is a keeper that has a huge physcological issues in the GWG. He hasnt for once lived to expectations, he is a calamity waiting to happen. Time and time again has he been given the chance to redeem himself but he blew it all.. Taking him to the world cup even as a reserve keeper is wastage of slot for any of the young ones to develop.

If given the chance to man our post at the world cup, Akpeyi will disgrace us openly. A leopard does not change his colours. Akpeyi's issues wont be solved overnight, hoping that he will sit up at the grand stage is wishful thinking. The 1998 Abiodun Baruwa and Peter Rufai treatment is what we will get. He is a leaking basket, he will be humilliated and embarrassed. Atleast his antecedent speaks for him.

Folks

Someone should let Rohr know that our World cup quarter-final target should not be sacrificed on the alter of sentiments and bais.

A word they say is enough for the wise!

Apparently I shouldn't have gone to the telegraph but likely debate over his inclusion behoves that I do so.

You earlier said your concern about Uzoho was his age wherein I mentioned Courtous who started keeping for belgium at quite a younger age(18) compared to Uzoho.

Talking about exposure, how many black goalies are first goalkeepers in clubs across UEFA top 5 leagues? I can assure you that if you should do a headcount, the figures would not measure up to my 5 fingers with 99% of them coming from france. It doesn't take away the quality of black goalies. All I'm saying is that we have the friendlies coming up. Uzoho will get loads of them and they'll count as both 'experience' and 'exposure'.

Good. Just like tbaba, you have gone from comparing him with Courtois down to black goalies.

I get your points. But let's go back a bit, aside Baruwa and Eufaula, who were the other goalkeepers that we had that we feel we should have fielded.

It's going to be a fight among the fullbacks but Echiejile will still be invited. Let them slug it out. The coach will pick the best.

All this Goalkeepers talk sef.... Rohr's mind in that goalie dept is like an enigma locked inside a conundrum. At the end of the day, we all will see things more clearly after some friendlies but before the Wembley friendly.

The GK dept is one that I really will go back to only after the march friendlies at least.... That dept just tire me....

I didn't at any point compare him with Courtous. I was only trying to infer that neither age nor experience is the basis for judging a goal keeper's potential. It's pure talent Sire.

This one come serious oo.. What if Rohr now decides to use the 3 man defence at d WC? Aina,Idowu and Echijele are d 3 LB in d team and so far only Idowu has proved to be good for the LWB role..Will Rohr drop Aina whom he worked hard to cap and is currently doing so well in the championship?
For the RWB,its Ebuehi... of course,Moses could be drafted to the role since Shehu can't play there...but will Rohr take the risk of drafting his best attacking player in a defensive role??

Time will tell...

@bolded.... I no be Rohr shaa but I do know that he won't try that "on a normal day"..... His best attacking player in a defensive role? Kaaaiiiii... This is almost unthinkable unless.... wink Unless it is against a more powerful opponent in a knockout game perhaps and he can go with that with the likes of Iwobi, Iheanacho, Moses Simon all good to occupy the attacking front (Ighalo as the central force is also an option)... I believe at the world cup decisions will be made according to the magnitude of the game and in depth strength of the opposition.

We will be faced with certain "abnormal days" at the mundial depending on how far we progress...

I don't think Rohr will have just one or two tactical structures in place... Sometimes just one decision to perhaps contain or neutralise a deadly threat may see him make the most unusual of tactical decisions which may do the team good in the long run and for results' sake....

As for Aina... He was asked recently where his best position is and he didn't mention the RB/RWB role.... Surprisingly he said he feels more comfortable for now on the left... And I think Rohr may be reasoning along that line to accommodate both Ebuehi and Shehu on the right leaving Echiejile, Aina and Idowu to battle it out on the left... Echiejile will be given chances to prove himself worthy of a world cup place and if he blows it, then it will make the decision to drop him much easier...

I am loving the uncertainty in certain outfield positions shaa. It shows us the competition in those roles... But in the goalie position ehn.... It is different...it is not a matter of competition. It is more a matter of who should we risk best? sad

Let me borrow your final three words myself.... Time will tell wink

Meanwhile.... Can't wait to see them dorn these in our March friendlies... I'm growing impatient...

Uzoho has huge Potential, but potential ain't the same with Experience and the Former can't ever supersede the Latter.

How many World Class Players had he faced in his Career?! How many top flight Football had he featured?! He's good no doubt, but he needs Experience not Experiment.

Presently he's simply a Rookie, hence it's gonna be a huge Burden on him as Eagles No. 1. Akpeyi is one of the best Keepers in South Africa League, yet he falters in Eagles Color.

Psychologically would he be steady under intense Pressure?! Even World Class Keepers would jitter at the sight of the Imp's led Stars studded Argentina National Team.

The potential backline gonna features Players with no World Cup Experience, hence it will be suicidal to play a Rookie behind them. Uzoho can make the 23-Man List, but shouldn't be the No. 1 Goalie.

However, if the Technical Crew prefers him ahead of other keepers, then we gonna have to keep our Faith in him. I hope he's gonna be ready to prove the Doubters Wrong if he's eventually made the Eagles No. 1 at the Mundial.

Finally, our Players need to improve and up their Games. Gone are the Days our Players were playing for the Top Teams in Europe. The Days our Players were known for winning Titles as first Team Players not bench Warmers.

We were the Brazil of Africa in the 90s, but we've gradually depreciated to Saudi Arabia of Asia. I hope to see our Players playing for big Clubs across the Europe, not mid-table Clubs.

We should know something is WRONG if we are relying on a Rookie to be our No. 1 Choice. This ain't gonna improve the Team, hence we need our Players to be among the Best in the World.

Salah and Mane are killing it with Liverpool. Auba is bought for a huge Fee and sent a top rated french Striker to the Bench. Wanyama and Gueye ain't disappointing at their respective Clubs. Bailly is well respected at United, same as his Compatriot at Spurs.

Aside from Moses, and perhaps Iwobi, none of our Players are playing for top rated Clubs in Europe. I pray it's gonna change with the Pool of Players we are discovering across the World, also hope the Players ain't gonna limit theirselves to mid-table Clubs or go on Exile to the Turkish League.

Not at all.... Shows the competition there and in the end, I believe Rohr will pick the "best" and "in-form" players for the fullback/wingback roles... And the easy way to solve this according to most here is "DROP ECHIEJILE" but that won't just happen without Rohr giving him another chance to prove his mettle.

Little part of my reply to you above shows why shaa... Rohr will pick from the likes of Echiejile, Aina, Ebuehi, Shehu, Idowu... And Mehn... I can relax on that one. Honestly....

I need to understand something, was it that Echiejile screwed up in his last match for us that people keep using the word "another chance"?

He missed some of our games based on injuries not because he performed woefully and got dropped.

All these "give him another chance" weird for my eyes. Thank God Rohr is closer to the players and will surely decide who fits his plans so all these tales we are posting and reading here will hardly count.

For those that read between the lines, we can all deduct from Rohr's statements those in his plans and those "not so sure". He mentions names and these names are surely in his plans.

Lol... "another chance" is what it is because Idowu pulled off a power show in his first and only game for us good enough to displace Echiejile who has been solid for the most parts but also shaky in a couple of instances at LB. We have been exposed times without number due to Echiejile's slow deterioration in that role... and that brought out the best in Balogun each time (covering for Echiejile's huge lapses) making him (Balogun) make CAF's BEST XI in the WC qualifiers rounds TWICE... we cannot look past that so easily.

But as the player who manned the LB ROLE for all important games in our WC qualifiers games, it is certain that Rohr considers him first choice even after his recent move to Belgium second division. Rohr won't just throw away all that "Experience" naa... he has been in the game long before I was born to know far better than that. wink

Echiejile looks Russia-Bound but it is also down to the friendlies because Aina and Idowu are really knocking dangerously on Echiejile's door and both are playing at higher levels than Echiejile week in, week out and doing well... the case of the LB is not done and dusted my friend. Rohr is only giving respect to Elderson and for experience sake... in the end, Rohr will go with "the best" and if Echiejile meets up, then so be it.

Ndidi to start as usual for Leicester against Stoke in the EPL while Nacho is on the bench. Leicester will play in a 4-4-1-1 formation. Gray, Mahrez and Albrighton all starting behind Vardy.

Ndidi to pair Matty James in the Leicester Midfield.

Efe still playing at a highly professional level? No.I only remember him at Celtic.

Efe plays week in week out?Yes but where Scottish league with Hibernia.

Efe prove doubters wrong since he moved to Hilbernia?how cos i don't see Hilbernia as a club to rate any player.

The present fullbacks don't have clear cut over Efe?how cos to me they are young and better, doing it in better leagues and their versatility in both flanks say it all.

Efe is good but for now we have better fullbacks and it would be stupid of a good coach to call Efe back with the presence of emerging talents like Ebuhei, Idowu, Aina and Shehu, pls to come and do what?

Efe plays as a center back and not just as a right back. I am looking at him more of a Central defender in comparison to what we have.

Gernot Rohr vows to stick with core squad for World Cup
By Gbenga Adewoye, Correspondent

Despite unconvincing showings from his goalkeepers, the Super Eagles gaffer has ruled out bringing new players into the team ahead of the showpiece
Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has revealed his intention to stick with the players who earned Nigeria a ticket to the 2018 Fifa World Cup.

The Super Eagles will compete for honours when the competition begins in June - and they have been zone alongside Argentina, Croatia and Iceland in Group D.

And despite unconvincing displays by goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Francis Uzoho coupled with the unavailability of first-choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, the German tactician has reinstated his decision not to bring in fresh legs ahead of the showpiece.

“We have built a good environment for the team and I believe all the players gave everything to secure the ticket to Russia," Rohr told BBC Sport .
"It looks very impossible to get Carl Ikeme to play in Russia, but Ikechukwu Ezenwa showed in big matches so far that he can be in goal.
“The young boy Uzoho had a great game against Argentina so I've sent the goalkeeper trainer to continue to provide support for this boy in Spain.

"We are not limited as we also have other goalkeepers like Akpeyi, Ajiboye and Alampasu in the team, so I believe we are fine."

"You have to respect what the former players have done in the past but be careful that you don't try to bring them back because people think so," Rohr continued.

"We have big experience in captain [John] Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and our left back Elderson who is now playing in Belgium.

"If we feel the need to strengthen this squad we know what to do because for nearly two years now we've had a good atmosphere so far. Another good news is that the young striker in Wolfsburg [Victor] Osimhen is also playing now.

"I will make the [provisional] squad based on this group and also give one of the CHAN boys a chance as well.
"We can't just keep bringing in player after player when you already have those who have proven that they can do the job.”

The Super Eagles will have to navigate their way past Argentina, Iceland and Croatia in Group D to make it to the knock-out stage.

Lol at all those 4 goals comparisons. You can also add Courtois in a recent EPL game.

Sir, all games are not the same.

Now, almost everyone has been saying the defence let Ajiboye down. What if I say Ajiboye failed to organize his defense?

Seems Ajiboye was more interested in making saves than organizing his defense to prevent opposing strikers from having point blank shots. Same thing happened against Sudan. Ajiboye was static, rooted to his goal line for most of the game. And the CBs defended too deep.

Goalkeepers frown and bark at the defenders when ever they are exposed to make point blank saves. It is the duty of the goalie to organize the defence so as to prevent that from happening. Keepers make saves when they have no choice

Sir organise what defence, the same defence that Started crumbling from quarter final, thank to Ezenwa against Angola and Ajiboye against Sudan.

Sir what make Morocco match different from our match against Ghana during WAFU or our friendly against Ghana in London.

Are you now saying Ajiboye did not organized the defence and Ezenwa organized his defence against Ghana and still conceded four goals and Enyeama too organized his defence very well and conceded four goals

Sir Ajiboye rooted on the line, may be we watched different match and this is the first time am hearing this,Ajiboye that suffered for whole 90 minutes non stop.

Sir not compulsory for Ajiboye to be at The WC cos his chances of making it is very slim but i don't think Ezenwa is better than him with what i saw from both keepers,my opinion.

A less than 45 mins performance can be used to displace years of service? Well I won't say much here since the coach is in charge. Most of what we type here stays here so why stress myself?

I know the decision is yet final and didn't say Echiejile is a confirmed started at LB, all depends on the coach, just trying to drum reality into the "Echiejile must not be in Russia crew".

BTW, all through the qualifiers, how many goals came from his side of the pitch? He's not the best but not the worst either.

Friendlies are coming and hopefully we will see more of these players before then (I mean the new boys).

Baba, the thing tire me.

Come to think of it. All other competitors are versatile. Aina and Ebuehi(LB, RB, LWB, RWB), Idowu(LB, LWB). Even Shehu(RB, DM) is not left out.

That full half performance came against a world class Argentina team. This is why it is such a big deal Monsieur... wink We saw Idowu's quality proven against one of the best teams in the world.... and against one of their top talents in Cristian Pavon.

It is the quality that can displace Echiejile... but when it comes down to experience, this is why Echiejile still edges and remains Rohr's no.1 and if what we say here do not matter outside NL then why do you also contribute and bother so much with commenting at all? loooolll....

somehow:
A less than 45 mins performance can be used to displace years of service? Well I won't say much here since the coach is in charge. Most of what we type here stays here so why stress myself?

Friendlies are coming and hopefully we will see more of these players before then (I mean the new boys).

Thank you my man,Emenalo had just training to sent Ugbade out of US 94 squad, Enyeama had just Kenya friendly to become 2nd choice to 2002 WC.

I think friendlies are coming up,no hidden place for any player whether Echiejele still have it,the friendlies would judge.

From the bolded, he mentioned 3 experienced players in each position and some people think Rohr is going to let sentiments becloud his judgement.

He stated that players wanting to go to the worldcup must be playing regularly, didn't say must play for Barcelona. Notice to everyone.
