Since you have a younger brother, your Sponsor should State it in his affidavit of sponsorship that he only has one person depending on him ie your younger brother, asides you. He should also state an estimate of what he spends yearly on your younger brothers academics only).

To me this will help the VO see that there’s enough available fund to cater for your 2yrs study in Canada.

I would simply be careful guaranteeing anybody's approval of TRV. We all know it's a privilege, not a right. Render advise and wish good luck and best. You can meet all requirements and still be denied. Masters or Phd. And I have seen some PhD students denied on sundry reasons. That is the nature of discretion. And whether you can qualify for PR in the future is not part of the calculus for determining TRV qualification.

I'm not a VO to guarantee any applicant TRV. The fact is that PhD applicants dont face too much scrutiny like Master's degree applicants. And no doubt, if a PhD applicant has funding with current employment in line with the PhD, TRV will fall on the person. I have seen a PhD application approved in just 2 weeks when average processing time was 19 weeks.

So, I'm not guaranteeing anyone but stating the facts and my observation.

Sorry about the delay. From the VO’s report you failed to convince him/her that you have strong financial backing and that there’s high job opportunity in your career path here in Nigeria. My questions to you are
1. How many years is the program?
2. Did you pay one year tuition?
3. Did your sponsor transfer 10,000 CAD to your acc as living expense fee
4 How much liquid cash did your sponsor show during your application? And did he/she explain source of income ? (Note that it’s not advisable to use a company or business account )
5. In your SOP did you explain why this program, why Canada, future plans after studying, how the program exposes you to opportunities in Nigeria. Stating brief and concise meaningful accounts of each year since your graduate study.
6 lastly if you are working here in Nigeria did you submit documents to back it up.

Congratulations! You don't need to renew your passport here before submitting it to CIC. Just submit your passport as instructed. Your visa will be issued with the validation of your passport. Once you get to Canada you can renew your passport and apply for an extension of your Visa.

Were you expecting the VO to approve a PhD candidate that is not financially stable? I used 'definitely' because he has funding. He has PTDF scholarship and his application will definitely be approved, unless he did something wrong in his application.

Any PhD candidate that is denied messed up his application because VO narrows denial reason on finance and in rare cases current employment situation. All that travel history, home ties, purpose of visit etc are ignored.

You said someone was denied on home ties? The VO knows that the minimum duration for a PhD in Canada is 4 years and if you do the right things, you're eligible to file for citizenship within that period. So that home tie is not the reason the person was denied.

While i understand your points as to the chances of the PhD applicant in context and based on his/her circumstance(s),the submission here and the angle you have come from in using the word "definitely", its still NO guarantee that the application would be approved irrespective of everything looking good.

I do not think anybody would want to mess up his/or her study permit application especially after putting in a lot. We can only do our best. The ultimate decision lies in the officer's discretion just as @Jnyuwa02 mentioned. There are instances of inadmissibility on health grounds, criminal convictions or misrepresentation. These are factors that can lead to a refusal of a seemingly good application.

So while i agree with you that a PhD applicant significantly stand a good chance of an approval(this is due to the fact that it is a pure academic exercise) than other applicants of different proposed programs, It's still no affirmation that there is a guaranteed approval. The VO will decide. All we can and should do is to see things from the positive angle and make contributions but then endeavour to point it out that the final decision/vedict lies in whom the job of the decision maker has been given, the Visa officer.

Quite slim but not IMPOSSIBLE. If she can truly and i mean truly justify the whys surrounding her circumstances, she well could get her application approved. Again, there will be a great work to be put in to convince the officer that her intention is to study. Explaining all she has been doing,why she is not studying in Nigeria and all in this light. The outline and a major thing in her convictions and permutation is that she must satisfy the officer that she will study and leave at the end of study.

To be honest, she will have to be beyond convincing.

PhD applications are scrutinized too. There is no one rule fits all when it comes to VISA application. This is general to all cases and countries.

Even someone in that particular class as the words in bold was rejected recently. It is not a matter of whether you have your documents or funding in tact, it is a matter of who is reviewing your case. The VISA officer has the right to approve or not, like they say approval of a visa is at the discretion of the office presiding over your case.

That is why we normally say to all applicants irrespective of which level you are, present your case and submit your application to the best of your knowledge and hope for the best.

Reason I'm going for project management is because
I run a company here in Nigeria, partly projected towards conference/workshop organization. But from my experience so far, I discovered that I need to learn more on how to handle these projects and I feel that an in-depth project management course/program would help a lot.

On another note, I don't mind going for a PhD in Canada but how easy is it for me get through the admission process including finding a supervisor as well as getting funding for the program?

If you go online, there are lots of courses these days that deal with project management and every other field related to it. So a VO might reason along this line. So doing applying for a PGD in Project Management might raise flags.

Going for another masters has to be justified when you eventually get accepted and are applying for your VISA. Meaning, you will need to put in extra work to convince the VO, that you are indeed a genuine student.

Now for the PhD application; If you will be kind to share your education background then people might be able to weigh in and give you the accurate advice.

But in general, for PhD, you would need to have a research goal and idea in mind. In most cases, you need to secure a supervisor who is willing to accept you. That is where the task is. There is no one rule fits all for supervisor search. But as a basis, you need to have formed a research intent (What area of your intended discipline are you looking at?) Is there any professor that is working in that area or field or in a closely related area? If there are you should contact them with your CV, Research purpose or why you wont to go into that field, your educational history and transcript.

NB: Some professors will respond, others wont respond. But you still have to carry on sending tailored emails.

If you read back, there couple of techniques posted by members of this forum with respect to contacting professors/supervisors. You should avail yourself of such information.

Again, I understand you want to get all your bases covered first before the VISA application steps, but I would encourage you to just make up your mind and do that which you think will work best for you (PGD, Masters or PhD) and apply fast. Time is running out. When you get to the VISA application bridge, you cross that.


Again, it is not an easy process but if you persevere, you would surely get it right.

PS: The above is also applicable to every intending applicant.

I cannot go through SOPs now especially if it is urgent as I have deadlines to catch up with.

Refused to give you after you submitted original transcript? That doesn't sound like USASK. At any length do not be discouraged as there are other ways out. Simply apply with your conditional admission letter and enclose the original transcript to the VO. Some people have done so successfully.

Hi! I don’t have a response to all you ask. Concerning your sponsor giving a break down of other dependants is totally optional. I just feel it’s good in SOME scenarios to help clear the VO’s thought of insufficient fund. The amount spent on academics for the other dependants in one year can be a rough estimate stated in one sentence. It doesn’t have to be broken down into details.

This is purpose of visit and fund issue. You didn't explain well in your sop why you intend schooling in Canada and not here in Nigeria as there are schools offering same course here and it's cheaper. Also you didn't provide proof of fund for your program(after the first year).. The travel history to me is just as a result of the first two, tackle those two and travel history will be taken care of
