BREAKING NEWS!!

New evidence showing that the Nigerian military was informed that Boko Haram was planning mass abductions in Yobe State has emerged. A document obtained by SaharaReporters indicated that the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) was notified by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) of plans by Boko Haram militants to carry out a massive attack in February.

The confidential memo dated February 6, 2018, and titled "Plans By BHT To Carry Out Massive Attacks In Maiduguri And Damaturu" was signed by Brigadier-General EA Adeniyi, he stated that intelligence gathered by the agency indicated that the most likely targets of large-scale Boko Haram attack will be the University of Maiduguri, mosques, markets, and parks in Borno. To carry out the attacks, the document further revealed that Boko Haram had hired about 17 suicide bombers, who were ready to strike as well as carry out abductions.

Specifically, the document stated and warned of mass abductions:"Similarly, mass abductions are ongoing purportedly to be used as Personnel-Borne Improvised Explosive Device"

This is in addition to Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device, using especially Golf cars with registration numbers from states of the North," the document stated.

To forestall a realisation of the terrorists' plans, the DIA said it was directed to request the DHQ to instruct troops of Operation Lafiya Dole to maintain high alert and vigilance. It also instructed that troops at checkpoints should pay special attention to Golf cars, but approach such with caution.

The military, however, disregarded the instruction to stay on high alert, as troops were withdrawn from Dapchi in Yobe state, where over 100 school girls were kidnapped by Boko Haram from an all-girls high school on Monday 19th of February 2018, the girls were later taken to Kanama on the Nigerian-Nigerien border according to sources.

Deputy Director (Public Relations), the Theatre Command, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu in a statement, said the military should not be blamed for the latest round of horror, as troops handed a peaceful and calm situation to the Police. however, the Nigerian police has denied the claim, stating there was not proper handing-over done to their men.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sumonu Abdulmaliki, said the military never handed over Dapchi town to the Police.

In a personally signed statement, Mr. Abdulmaliki explained that Yobe State remains a security emergency being monitored by security agencies.

MISSING DAPCHI GIRLS: CAS TEMPORARILY RELOCATES TO MAIDUGURI, NSA COMMISSIONS PROJECTS TO EXTEND REACH OF NAF HELICOPTERS

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has temporarily relocated to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base at Maiduguri, from where the air search operations for the missing Dapchi girls are being coordinated. This is in order to have first hand information on the progress of the air search efforts and also give additional directives as might be necessary. The National Security Adviser (NSA), Mohammed Monguno was equally at the NAF Base Maiduguri, where he spoke to and encouraged the NAF personnel involved in the day and night air search operations. Furthermore, both the NSA and the CAS visited Damaturu, where they paid a courtesy call on His Excellency, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State, during which they held useful discussions regarding the missing girls. Later in the day, the NSA, accompanied by the CAS and other top military officers, travelled to Monguno to commission new projects at 171 NAF Detachment Monguno. The newly commissioned projects include the Unit’s Headquarters Complex, a block of 4 Single Officers’ Quarters, a block of 10 flats for airmen/airwomen and 2 helipads, all of which have just been constructed.

According to the Commander of the Air Task Force, Air Vice Marshal Idi Lubo, air power projection has limitations, one of which is reach. He therefore expressed his delight, noting that with the commissioning of the projects at 171 NAF Detachment Monguno, the NAF had just extended the reach of its helicopters. In his remarks at the commissioning ceremony, the CAS stated that the projects were undertaken in pursuit of the NAF’s commitment to ensuring security in the Northeast. He added that the NAF would continue to deploy air assets in all parts of the country towards ensuring that Nigerians are able to prosecute their businesses in a safe and secured environment. On the missing Dapchi girls, Air Marshal Abubakar declared that no efforts would be spared by the NAF in locating the girls, in conjunction with other security forces. He disclosed that NAF pilots on different NAF platforms were operating day and night to locate the girls, adding that he had decided to temporarily relocate to Maiduguri, given the import of the unfortunate incident.

While commissioning the projects, the Special Guest of Honour, Mohammed Monguno, lauded the monumental achievements of the NAF under its current leadership. He recalled that 171 NAF Detachment Monguno was only established in 2017; he was therefore surprised to see all that had been accomplished within the short period. He described the feats as a testimony to the zeal and commitment of the CAS to repositioning the NAF into a highly professional force in line with his clearly stated vision. The NSA also described the establishment of NAF presence in Monguno as being long overdue, as it would add the much needed value to the efforts of the other security agencies in ensuring peace in the Northeast. Speaking further, the NSA commended the NAF for its immense contributions to the overall efforts at degrading the capability of the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) while urging NAF personnel to remain steadfast. He equally seized the opportunity to appreciate President Buhari for his support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria in ensuring the sustenance of operations.

Also commissioned yesterday, by the NSA, were a newly constructed Fire Fighting and an Aircraft Arming Bay at NAF Base Maiduguri. It is recalled that the Dapchi girls were declared missing on 19 February 2018 after reported attacks by BHTs following which the NAF immediately commenced an air search for them. The NAF has had to deploy additional air assets, including Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms, to the Northeast, on 25 February 208, in a renewed effort at locating the missing girls. The CAS was still in the Northeast as at the time of writing this report.

On DAPCHI.

This isn't the time for the military and police to start accusing each other. As a relatively safe place, the Nigerian police has failed woefully in securing that community as the main law enforcement and para military agency in Nigeria. As a community, the Nigerian police desierves to have the fastest response time in such circumstance and the military failed woefully because of a poor response time.

Watching the director of information live call on AIT this morning, he claimed they never heard about it and immediately they got notified of bokoharam presence, they immediately deployed officers but informations didn't get to them very fast. He said military detachment could have intercepted them if they had passed through roads but as group of attackers, they passed through open spaces without checkpoints.

Here's why the police takes the biggest blame. The military detachment in such area was deployed to a town around the Nigerian border. As a community, police presence should always be available with or without a military checkpoint. If there was a police presence in such area, immediately after observing the presence of BHT, you don't even need to engage if you're not capable. There's a reason why the man with the radio is the most dangerous in a battlefield as he can turn around any situation. Send a radio broadcast to your own team if there's no interoperability. The police HQ can contact the theater command which will deploy military operatives immediately.

This scenario shows why bokoharam still has the gut to attack towns being liberated by military or being declared as safe. There's a bad policing of communities and town.

In continuation of the successful exploits by troops of Operation Lafiya Dole conducting Operation Deep Punch II to clear Boko Haram insurgents from the Sambisa forest and the Lake Chad Islands, yesterday Tuesday 28 February 2018, troops successfully cleared and dismantled insurgents' camps at Agapulawa, Amuda, Nyawa and Attagara; all within the remaining parts of the Sambisa forest.

The clearance operations progressed further into other identified insurgents' camps around Tchikide and Chinene, where the troops ferociously engaged and cleared pockets of resistance by the insurgents , killing 5 of them in the encounter. However, as troops exploited further in pursuit of the insurgents as they fled, one of the combat vehicles was rammed into by a terrorists' Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED), injuring two officers in the vehicle.
