Training Report – How Joel Obi Turned Practice Game In Favour Of Team A After Replacing Onazi

The team B of the Super Eagles of Nigeria were slowly running away with a win in yesterday’s practice match during the training session of the Super Eagles before Joel Obi was switched to the A team.

Obi started the game in midfield for the B team, and before his substitution they were leading 1-0 with his hardworking display helping his side to switch from defence to attack with ease as he dominated the midfield duels.

Coach Gernot Rohr was somehow impressed by his performance and moved him to the A team in place of Ogenyi Onazi, and he immediately helped stabilise the midfield of the A team who were nowhere near their best when he was playing against them.

His introduction helped them claw their way back into the game, and they eventually won the session 3-1. A scoreline which angered many players of the B team who were unhappy over the decision of Rohr to take Obi from their team.

One positive notice during the training session is the way the players played among themselves, with both teams displaying a high level of understanding in defence and even in attack.

The likely 4-2-3-1 formation may look like Nacho being the one in the center (AMC)..... with Iwobi to the left (AML) and Moses to the right (AMR)

Now, what if it is Iwobi as the AMC, Nacho to the right as the AMR cutting into his left foot and interchanging with Iwobi at will, then with Moses to the left as the AML... in that triumvirate attacking midfield combo behind Ighalo?

Time will tell.... wink

If we go for a 4-2-3-1 I would like to see a forward line that looks like this:

................Ighalo

Iwobi.. Iheanacho.. V. Moses

Joel and Ndidi should mount the CM and DM respectively.

This has always been my problem with Onazi, quite decent a player but his over working creates spaces and his passes aren't always top notch

Aberdeen Hail Nwakali Over Scottish League Team Of The Week Selection

 1 March 21, 2018 3:18 pm
By James Agberebi:

Scottish Premiership club Aberdeen have congratulated Nigeria midfielder Chidiebere Nwakali who has been included in the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) Team of the Week for last weekend’s Scottish Premiership matches.

The Team of the Week was announced on the SPFL’s verified Twitter handle on Wednesday.

Nwakali’s inclusion was due to his impressive performance for Aberdeen in their 1-0 home win against Dundee United in the league on Saturday.

Nwakali was later brought off in the 72nd minute.

Nwakali, who is on loan to Aberdeen from Premier League leaders Manchester City, is in the middle of a three-man midfield in the Team of the Week in a 4-3-3 formation.
Aberdeen wrote on Twitter: “Well done to Chidi Nwakali who was named in the SPFL Team of the Week.”

The win against Dundee took Aberdeen to the third position on 56 points in the Scottish Premiership table.

The game was Nwakali’s fifth since joining Aberdeen on loan in January.

This friendly match will afford Rohr opportunity to observe the team closer and see how he can fortify the weak spots in the team. While many Nigerians may be expecting a win, the coach will probably be more interested in some intricacies in the team which many fans are oblivious of.
These friendly matches will not exhibit the proper strength of the team as every player will want to avoid injuries and WC is fast approaching.
I wish the coaches are not distracted with winning instead of seeking for amends where needed.

Rohr: Chinese-Based Mikel To Undergo Rigorous Training, We Have A Goalkeeping Problem
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr says his captain John Obi Mikel will have to undergo rigorous training with the Nigeria national team ahead of the 2018 World Cup, bearing it in mind that the Chinese Super League is not too competitive.

The Tianjin Teda star is set to miss out on the Super Eagles last international break of the 2017-2018 season as he has remained in China to renew his work permit.

Asked if Mikel's transfer to China is a problem, Rohr told Przegląd Sportowy: ''It might be a problem once, but the level has risen there. Before the World Cup there will be a break to bring the players to a good physical condition.''

The German coach admitted Nigeria have a goalkeeping problem ahead of the mundial, saying : ''It is true. Our problem is Ikeme's illness (he was diagnosed with leukemia)''.

Prior to Rohr's appointment as Nigeria coach in 2016, he managed other African teams and has stated that he likes working in Africa.

''I like working in Africa. I coached teams in France for many years and in each of them I had a good relationship with Africans.

''Then I went to Tunisia until I started leading the African team. I enjoyed it because I was doing well,'' added Rohr.

Russia 2018: five talents aiming at the role of surprise

Russia 2018 for us Italians will be the saddest World Cup of the last sixty years. We will watch it from home, with customs and customs routed after having punctuated our lives at four-year intervals. If the Azzurri will not be there, there will certainly be great champions like Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but not even talents ready to consecrate themselves on the most important stage. We have chosen five trying to anticipate the times, talents to keep an eye that just from Russia could definitely explode.

Aleksandr GOLOVIN (1996, CC, RUSSIA)
The most anticipated star for the hosts was definitely Kokorin, but the Zenit striker will miss the whole tournament for a bad injury. Accompanying an affordable group and the great expectation of the fans, Russia is called to make a great tournament and the possibilities are not lacking.

The game plots will go from the direction and the talent of Aleksandr Golovin, central midfielder able to play even more advanced or left, which makes the game vision and touch quality its strengths. They know this well in Lyon, where with his CSKA he moved past the French rearguard with decisive plays on the edge of the area. The performance and a right foot to envy have increased the price of his tag up to 10 million euros and on his tracks is Arsenal for some time.

Aleksandr GOLOVIN
Age: 22 (1996)
National - Team: Russia - CSKA Moscow
Role: trequartista
Favorite foot: right
Value: 10 million euros

Federico VALVERDE (1998, CC, URUGUAY)
In all likelihood we are talking about the purest talent that Uruguay is waiting for and on which it will aim for the future. Produced by the Cantera of Real Madrid, he is competing in the first season in La Liga with the shirt of Deportivo La Coruna. The debut with goals in the major national team has exalted everyone at home and the important comparisons, even from Madrid, are already wasting.

Central midfielder, he knows how to dictate the timing of the action even with throws of 40 meters if necessary, even if the best of himself gives it with the filtering passages behind the opposing line of defense. In short, it is a complete modern midfielder useful in the maneuver of the team, suitable for both playing in a line 2 and 3. Equipped with an important physique, 181cm x 76kg, which make it compassionate to sight, it is endowed with a remarkable agility that allow him to juggle even in tight spaces. Also fearsome in the insertions.

In the trio with Bentancur and who knows Torreira, it will be a fundamental element. His ability to think and develop vertical football is able to quickly trigger Suarez and Cavani.

Federico VALVERDE
Age: 20 (1998)
National team: Uruguay - Deportivo La Coruna
Role: midfielder
Preferred foot: right
Value: 5 million euros

Wilfred NDIDI (1996, CC, NIGERIA)

At just 21 years of age Leicester invested 17 million euros on him with the desire to find the new Kanté. An important responsibility for the young midfielder who grew up in Belgium who, after a few days of adaptation, took over the reins of the Foxes game with an impressive naturalness given his young age.

The difference with Kanté is evident starting from the more slender physicality that make it more active in pressing and more courageous in the insertions with or without the ball. The long levers allow important strides that make it a player to keep an eye on in the two phases. With Nigeria at the World Cup it could be a player to keep an eye on, the ones that the big clubs are always interested in, even if it takes a lot of money to get rid of it at Leicester.

Wilfred NDIDI
Age: 22 (1996)
National - Team: Nigeria - Leicester
Position: midfielder
Preferred foot: right
Value: 20 million euros

Dimitri OBERLIN (1997, ATT, SWITZERLAND)

Like half of Europe, plays in Basel but is on loan from Salzburg. Dimitri Oberlin reached the first call with the Swiss national team to perform well, especially in the Champions League where he scored 4 goals, also taking advantage of the problems of the former prodigy Embolo. Juventus follows him, Manchester United has already tried to bring him into the Premier League, but it will be the World Cup to tell us if this point is ready for the leap in quality, the same that awaits the national team rossocrociata.

Oberlin combines good technical skills with a great speed that allows him to throw himself into the spaces with constancy and danger. Agility and an important physical power make it a promising modern attacker able to stand alone the weight of the attack, but also to play as a second tip.

In the implementation phase must improve a bit ', but time is on his side.

Dimitri OBERLIN
Age: 21 (1997)
National - Team: Switzerland - Basel
Position: forward
Favorite foot: right
Value: 5 million euros

Hirving LOZANO (1995, ATT, MEXICO)

The impact of this Mexican striker in the Eredivisie was devastating. In his first season in the Netherlands he confirmed all the quality of the achievements by finding the net 14 times in the first 23 league releases. All this by playing offensive outside, right foot and who likes to start from the left and then come back and kick.

The sense of goal is there, but thanks to a short-term physicality, agility and technique are the real strengths. In the offensive trident he exalts his dribbling, but also the ability to converse with the striker at the edge of the area and then often close to the first post. An important feature, if we want to be different from similar players, is the ability to fit behind the defense with movements without a ball.

In Russia, Mexico aims a lot on him and Lozano, as illustrious predecessors to the PSV such as Ronaldo and Romario, is called to the leap in quality to aim for something more than the Eredivisie.

Hirving LOZANO
Age: 23 (1995)
National - Team: Mexico - PSV Eindhoven
Role: external striker
Preferred foot: right
Value: 25 million euros
