Our Trade Unions have more sense than Kenyans

Are you the guys who come up with an idea, fail to implement it, and when others own it and succeed you start saying it was your idea

I thought Nigeria was Pan-African. What happened

But I understand. Most African countries are afraid of competition ... They'd rather sell themselves to European domination,

ACFTA
ACFTA, a brainchild of the African Union to deepen regional integration, had been in the works since January 2012 - with Nigeria as one of its major promoters...

But, considering that Nigerians travel the most within Africa, they are the greatest looser when implementation shall begin and priority shall be given to countries that are members of the African Continental free trade and movement area. Very myopic decision on the part of Nigeria.

Shoes and other commercial are exported, but they very significant compared to Coffee. If the price of Coffee fall dramatically, then Ethiopia will die.

What about the case of Kenya?

Why shouldnt foreign airlines be allowed to do local scheduled flights in Nigeria wen you guys use ladders to board local flights. You need foreign airlines more than anyone. They can help reform sectors that treat citizens like baggage.

Also, take cognizance of these facts :

1. Colonialism created a situation where neighbours stopped trading with each other. The main trading route was between African countries and European countries and between African countries and the US

3. Trade between African countries is only 10 %. The 90 % is with the outside world, thats why you find African nations importing stuff from abroad that their neighbors just next door possess.

2. When you have this kind of situation, young people cannot find jobs. And when they cannot find jobs, you see them trying to get to Europe and drowning in the Mediterranean.

Excuse my misinformation grin. So African countries that assemble cars can't export them under this AFCTFA?

See now? Most of you will repeat what your trade unions and govt says. There will be a second phase of negotiations to cover investment, competition policy and intellectual property. Countries will submit which products they consider "sensitive" to have them exempted fro the FTA. And you cant import and re-export to neigbors/ African nations. The origin of the goods must be from an African nation.

What about the case of Kenya?

Kenya has to be one of the most diversified on the continent. No single sector runs the economy.

We are Africans. We don't need this.
I believe every black man that grease the surface of this earth is African. This surely the Europeans and the outside world can't take from us.
Your various countries is suppose to have thrived greatly more than its present state now. Leaders all over Africa still operate under the mentorship of the Whites. We youths are educated and knows more. I am planing a website to unite blacks all over the world. That the time comes we would take back leadership from this corrupt government all over Africa that had been in government one way or the other since our various independence.
Education brings change it empowers also and right here in Cyprus I see alot of youths in school from various African nationalities.
This generation can generate respect from the outside world and make the blacks worldwide united.
We need to unite to take over our various nationality resources back from the government of our nations. It will not happen right now. We don't need a revolution.
All we need is power and pride.
Get power which is wealth then Pride as a lion follows. With pride you gain respect and then you can lead others to follow on a revolution.
In south africa government was taken from Zuma same with Zimbabwe. So there is hope and there is a possibility.
Thank you.

cool

You have given yourself the toughest job in the world, uniting Africans. That has to be the toughest job. Our former president used to say "Mwafrika ni kichwa ngumu" meaning the African is hard headed. This site alone can tell you how much that is true. A simple thread goes haywire within minutes. But there is possibility I too believe.

Believing is where it begins my brother.
Africans through the methods of leadership derived by our leaders who are still under the influence of the European nations and united nations is a danger to the presume growth and total freedom we desire.
The youths of this generation taking over power will not only give us the drive to a new vision and a new Africa of total freedom and control of the mighty powers of the united nations but a United Africa will make us see what we are blessed with. Human and vast natural resources. Wildlife like no where else in the World. If we can control this things within our shore and stop exploitation. Then our goal is attained.

Certain animals you need a special permit to hunt like for Rhino and Leopard.

The rest can be hunted.... Its all up to the property owner, 80% of all game in SA are in private hands and all hunting activities in SA occurs on privately owned land.... You are not allowed to hunt on state owned land unless you get a permit which they will only approve when animals need to be culled as was the case with the elephant population in the kruger a few years ago.

An FTA is one way to free ourselves from Europe. If through your site you hope to change mindsets, then a FTA will make it practical because people can interact more and talk things. You can picture a Motswana in Lagos sharing what they have done to be so good in governance, or a Ugandan in Burkina faso finally learning how to remove strongmen from power, these kind of things can be infectious.

We have to start from somewhere. I am not trying to incure a revolution. But a revolution of recognition. We must create the idea that we have what it takes to better Africa. Nigeria is suffering so much today because of leadership. Same old people from the 1960s. This soon will have to stop.
Plesse explain to me what FTA is all about

Ok. I’ve once read about Kenya Tea on tourist forum. I’m surprised by the petroleum, because I never thought Kenya export any type of petroleum let alone the refrain one. I read here that not even Nigeria, the largest oil deposit in Africa, has her own refrain oil. Great for Kenya.

When did Coffee started to be popular among the Kenya population?

lol Kenya exports refined petroleum products. We import Crude oil, refine it and export the products. Do you mean popular in terms of consumption or as a cash crop? I really dont know but it was obviously in the early half of the 20th century.

Nigeria now world’s largest petrol importer

Nigeria is the only member country in the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) that imports petrol and is currently the largest importer of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in the world, Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Baru has said.

“We actually import one million tonnes of PMS every month into a country that produces oil and gas and has refinery. It is a shameful thing, it doesn’t make sense and that is what we are trying to address,” he added.

What are the chances that your leadership will get things right in 10-20 yrs and make Nigerian industries favorably compete? It doesnt look like it even in 100 yrs. Things involving governance in your country carefully follow the law of entropy. They only get worse.

But you are right, Kenya cant wait to gain unfettered access to that giant market. You need to open up and test the waters, might even turn out to be good. Just a point of note, your argument borrows straight from the Tanzanian school of thought. They have been opposed to total integration of the EAC because they want to join it at a time when their economy is at par with Kenya's. So we have been on this wild goose chase for decades. If you think there is a time when you will be ready, forget it ! It will be much worse if (even if by sheer luck) the AfCFTA works because it has the potential to make economies in the member states catapult themselves due to the market, esp their industries. In 20 yrs the industries in most African countries might've become too strong for you. Imagine what a country like SA, Egypt or Kenya would do with a 1.2 billion market. This is something that any sane person should support. Your leaders are so short sited that some are worried about lost tariffs instead of seeing the bigger picture.

Btw, the speech made by Obasanjo has to be the best. He had no chills for Bubu and Co. Brainy old man !
Then i gather that maybe Nigeria dont have that manufacturing thingy they keep on bragging about here...Coz serious what are they afraid of...An about having a bigger (180 m strong) market is a serious joke..180 m people with 60% poverty rate is not that great
