The CB covers for the FB when he is out of position.. That is normal. You can not stay in the middle when your full back is out of position.

The most important thing in defending is maintaining the overall shape. Covering your full backs is a normal role for a centre back.

why then do you have a DMF?

I've been dropping posts on the thread. But ofcos the latest is their 2-game friendly in Egypt against the their host's U-20 side and ofcos the age cheat brouhaha. Please go ahead and post in the U-20s... It is natural that the main focus seem to be on the Nation's biggest football team, The Super Eagles. wink

I have not seen any ball juggler or skillful ball handler in the Super eagle’s midfield since the retirement of Okocha and Nwankwo. Even fluid footballers such as Finidi George and Amunike are hard to see in the recent super eagle’s line up. I think Ihenancho could be coached to handle the function but he seems to lose his footings quite easily. Super eagles will have tough tine in Moscow without a fluid midfield.

Nigerian born goalkeeper Phillip Ejimadu has been called up to the USA under 20 football team.

Ejimadu was given birth to in Minneapolis, Minnesota to a Nigerian father and Brazilian mother, hence his eligibility to represent Nigeria, Brazil or the USA.

The United States Soccer Federation however have extended an invitation to Ejimadu in a bid to pledge his allegiance to the senior national team of the USA.

Head Coach of the USA under 20 men’s team Tab Ramos, included Ejimadu among the 25 players for their friendly matches in Spain.

Ejimadu who plays for Nacional Atlético Clube will have to compete with Brady Scott of FC Köln and CJ Dos Santos of S.L. Benfica for a starting shirt.

He said, ''I thank God for the opportunity I am having to play for my national team.”

The 18-year-old then recounted how the USA Followed up on his progress after a not to impressive outing at the 2018 São Paulo Cup.

“But I was one of the highlights of the team and the Club ended up receiving a letter from the North American team requesting that I introduce myself in order to play some friendly matches in Spain.”

Like RB Leipzig's Ademola Lookman and other Nigerian boys that have featured for other countries at age grade level, Ejimadu still remains eligible to represent the Super Eagles of Nigeria even though he has been called up by the USA under 20 team.

In Italy the way they compose teams are very specific and most teams make sure they have at least one player of each of the main types here.

Trequartista/Fantasista (Playmaker)
Tuttofare (All round midfielder)
Regista(Deep lying playmaker)
Prima Punta (Primary goalscorer)
Seconda Punta (Second Striker)/Mezz'ala(Inverted forward)/Velocista(Speed demon)

Trust me go through their teams, most have each subtype ticked off, it's how they build their teams. In fact, I can't think of a good attack through the years that haven't had atleast a Trequar, a Prima & .....any one of the last row.

It's why Chelsea weren't quite there in attack, we had Drogba (Prima) Anelka (SS) Fantasista
Nope. You look at Kaka, Shevchenko, Crespo..... Pirés, Henry, Bergkamp.... Zidane, Del Piero, Trezeguet
Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Messi.. Perfect combo's.

In Italy second strikers are considered strikers, that have a little more to their games, this is why "Inverted forward" (Players like Messi was, left footed on the right that cuts in to score) & "speed demon" is on the same line.
This could be the extra thing they have.

2nd strikers aren't usually the primary goalscorers, but, a player can be both, take Tevez at City, he is a 2nd striker that is also their Prima Punta.

Sneijder is NOT a 2nd striker, he is a midfielder, 2nd Strikers can play in a 442 as a forwards strike partner, (like Aguero & Forlan) if Sneijder did that, it'd be more like a 4-4-1-1. i.e. He is a midfielder, that is the acid test.

Rooney(Fantasista & SS) drops deep, the problem with Sneijder isn't that he is a second striker it's that he is an attacking midfielder, who isn't thought to be able to play central midfielder in a midfield duo. He really does operate in that attacking 3rd hole space mostly. Having Rooney & Sneijder in & around that area shouldn't be a problem, they'd link up well, it's more, it would leave United very unbalanced & open in the defensive part of midfield.

Modric is a regista (deep lying playmaker) and would make much more sense.
but, good players are good players, you'd find Sneijder useful.

Don't get me wrong, bro. I wasn't totally excited by our performance either because the result flattered us quite a bit. I the world cup, for instance, the goal scored by Poland would've stood because the ball was clearly over the line. And in addition, Poland missed more than 3 good chances.

But in all, we're talking about two teams here: one team played badly but still found a way to win against a very strong team in their backyard.
The other team, despite all their world class stars, played badly and lost 2-0 against a 10 man Peru team. Hence, all things considered, I will take our result over Croatia's all day. Like my high school coach would say, you're allowed to have a bad game as long as you win. According to him, the name of the game is TO WIN.

LOL.

When Obagoal was there, we did not even get out of the group stage at the world cup.

When Aluko was there, we did not even qualify for the Nation's cup.

Yet these are the saviors who will propel us to the Semi Finals of the World Cup.

I often want to caution those who speak ill against you on this thread, but these kinds of statements still my fingers.

Football is not static and neither are football players. Some improve on upwards spiral and some are on a continous downward spiral.

Don't use old glories or past failings to ascertain a player. The reality is that OBAGOAL is currently the most consistent striker we have over the past 10 years.

Everywhere he has been whatever the league he has been outstanding.

Currently with better statistics than both KC and Ighalo. That's the reality. Unless you are prejudiced which many are then you can not deny his quality.

If we can invite Ajayi then why not Obagoal.

The relevant question is what's his current level of performance❓ Not what happened a decade ago.

There are so many players that have had resurgences in thier careers much later on. He is not as old as many top players yet we dismissed him for players who may never ever reach the level he has.

Firstly, he is certainly not too old after all is he older than Robben Arjen, Jermain Defoe, Danny Alves, Evra, Iniesta, Mascherano and yes even Christiano Ronaldo are all in the same range or older.

So what's the biggie Or just plain bad belle.

Consider the depth of experience and technical know how that OBAGOAL brings to the table. He could be the missing quality link.

Ndidi first games were below average but today he is in the first 11. What do you have to say about that?

Joel Obi too fouled many times on Friday and even collected yellow card, can you say his yanch open?
Oga ,Agu flopped in 3 matches in succession. I'm tired of your argument.

Why do I think Moses kills our cohesive team work. If Vic Moses was in the field against Argentina in the second half we would never have seen those fluent moves. I know he can change a game but sometimes he gotta be more of a team player. Quick releases, one-twos, and faster passes. If he starts doing these things in addition to his dribblings he'd be phenomenal in Russia.

Sometimes talented players need to get stingy and bold to drive out an attack, hazard, willian and even messi does that, Moses got our penalty from it, you cant continue passing when is not getting you the result

News flash.

Iceland have decided to boycott the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

So without kicking a ball do we then qualify for the next stage or will they draft another team in to replace them.

I hope this will not snow ball with more countries boycotting the games.

True, but you also gotta consider that Pele's first two of the three World Cup titles came with, perhaps, the greatest national team of all time. You can't say the same thing about Messi. Today, Messi is being looked up to do it all by himself. But nobody has ever done it by himself - FACT. Diego Maradona, for instance, had the likes of Bruchaga (sp) plus one of the best coaches of all time.

Remember that, like Messi, Diego Maradona carried his team to the finals of the World Cup but he didn't score any goals in the finals .... he depended on others to step up, and they did! Today, the likes of Higuain, Aguero, etc would leave it all for Messi. And Angel DiMaria would conveniently got injured anytime the Argies have an important tournament.

CBs are not meant to be drawn out except maybe during counter attacks. But when you are defending full time there is absolutely no reason for you to be there, what if you push out and they cross the ball creating an overload?

If there is one position in the present Super Eagles set-up that gives many sleepless nights, it is the goalkeeping department.

The Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, is not hiding his concerns as he admits he still needs all the reinforcement he can muster before the Mundial.

In all of this, SC Kriens star, Sebastian Osigwe, has expressed his desire to join the Super Eagles in this problematic department ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The 23-year-old, who was born to a Nigerian father and a Swiss mother, is currently enjoying a fine season in the Swiss League having kept six clean sheets in 17 appearances.

Interestingly, Sebastian’s dad, Vitalis Osigwe, represented Nigeria in the past as he was part of the 1985 Golden Eaglets squad but only missed out on the U17 World Cup following an injury against Poland in a preparatory game.

The Super Eagles were the first African team to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. But the biggest dilemma facing the Gaffer, Gernot Rohr, is identifying a reliable first-choice goalkeeper after the retirement of Vincent Enyeama and absence of Carl Ikeme, who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer.

CBs cover for fullbacks occasionally. The DM can slot in and form a 3 while both full backs bomb forward.

I'm all for being allowed to air one's opinions but sometimes I feel like we're unnecessarily harsh on these players and expect so much from them. This in turn makes us turn a blind eye to their improved performances and that is what I'm against. No player can have it all(expect perhaps Messi grin grin) but they're all unique in their own ways and should be appreciated when there's a noticeable improvement. I hope you understand.

I understand, but I hope I can actaully state that balogun performance for me needs to be improved, both club and country
