You pay the deposit which in most cases would be 20% , the mortgage lender provides the balance and you pay for the house. You now pay mortgage on the house based on the mortgage you borrowed + interest for a number of years until you finish paying the mortgage. At any point in time, you can sell the house, give the bank what you owe them and take the rest, that's assuming you sell it when you haven't finished paying the mortgage off.
