HOW IMO LOST MONEY SPINNER TOWNS.

When Abia state was carved out from Imo state, present Imo state lost some development infrastructures, including IMSU, to Abia state.

Fears abound that next state creation exercise, either Orlu or Okigwe must be cut off from present Imo state.

That's how Owerri-born governor of Imo state ignored equity and zoning but located IMSU in Owerri which then hosted FUTO, AICE and POLYNEKEDE, he ignored a modern and bigger University Facility he was shown in Orlu at the closed Orlu campus of AICE.

Earlier, a modern campus of AICE built by Mbakwe in Orlu with aid from the World Bank was suddenly closed down immediately after Mbakwe left office.
Students and staff were transferred to Owerri where students literally slept on top of the other in crowded hostels or rented rooms in Owerri.

Then began the unwritten policy of Owerri people that every notable development infrastructure in Imo state must not be allowed to be located outside Owerri zone.
Every governor of Imo state started to be blackmailed to abide by the unwritten policy.

The stunted development of IMSUTH established in Orlu is attributed to the unwritten policy of Owerri that no worthy development infrastructure of Imo state government must be outside Owerri zone.

Gov. Okorocha succumbed fullest to the blackmail from those who want Imo state to have only Owerri as a developed area in the state. He even opened another campus of IMSU in Owerri zone.

Say the truth can you live in Owerri, Orlu, Aba or Okigwe? Personally I can manage Umuahia but nothing on earth can make me live in those other towns you mentioned.

Hehehehe

The truth is very bitter.

This is the same reason at least 2 million Imolites are resident in Onitsha. All the rich Imolites including Orange Drugs are all resident in Onitsha. Tell me any sane person that can live in Owerri as shown below. Owerri is a filthy dilapidated town filled with poor uneducated people and prostitutes. The bitter truth is that nobody can live in this kind of filthy, dusty and congested environment of Owerri. There is no single person from other Igbo state living in Owerri or anywhere in Imo state, it is because it is not liveable environmentally and economically. The little population in the town are already running to live in Anambra which Imolites see as their obodo oyibo and greener pasture..cheesy

Abagworo, as you correctly wrote above: educated Imolites live only in Owerri, or elsewhere outside Imo state.

This supports my stance that all is not well with the development pattern of Imo state government which concentrates in Owerri.
In two neighborhood states for example: Anambra and Abia, educated Anambra people can live in Awka, Nnewi, Onitsha; educated Abians can comfortably live in Umuahia and Aba.

Owerri capital territory is less than 5% of the land mass of Imo state.
Imo state governor does the showmanship projects in Owerri, build a town to touch the sky; you and the governor renamed Owerri to be Imo state.

The few from Owerri who are the direct beneficiaries of the showmanship development in Owerri clap for the governor.

The governor thinks that the entire Imo state is with him.

Most Imo state people don't like living in OWERRI and that is why the town is deserted like a ghost town. All you see in Owerri are just low grade unenlightened population, poor people, brothels, prostitutes and armed robbers.

The question is, why Imo state govt develop Owerri in such a way that rich and educated people can live and work in the town? There are no single decent job in Owerri the reason it was infested with all manner of animals. Imo state governments since 1999 has failed Imolites and it calls for urgent action as the next election draws near.

So the people living in these places are sub-human abi? You can be quite annoying sometimes!

He is always angry over such bitter issues. Just like ruggedised1 said, and I can confirm it, there are at least 1.5 million of my fellow Imolites resident in Onitsha alone. All the pharmacists and pharmaceutical outlets at Headbridge are owned 100% by our own Imo state people. This is a pure statement of fact. In 2015, Ihedioha came to Onitsha campaigning to lead Imo state. He actually came to campaign in Onitsha because he knows that almost every family in Imo state people has family relations in Onitsha because they see the city as their abroad. Below is one of his campaign in Onitsha in 2015. Truth cannot be hidden forever.

comfortable and educated people used to live in aba in the 80s until the city was abandoned and made decrepit..other wise aba is actually more of a planned area than owerri..if the same amount of focus is placed on aba the way it was placed in owerri aba will beat owerri hands down

Going by the recent decrepit and horrible pictures of bad roads and filth coming out of Owerri, the town is not different from Aba presently. Yes, though Aba maybe more organised and planned than Owerri, but I still believe that we need to do something urgently to draw our own people home by industrialising and organizing Imo state. I think that is why there are still huge poulation of Imo state people in Aba.

Only a most wicked and self-aggrandizing governor can waste the state's resources in building those huge pillars for street lamp poles in the state capital while the other towns in the state are carried away by flood due to absence of common drainage system.

Since Okorocha came in 2011, it has been ''build and demolish''. His projects are not planned. He probably saw this pillars somewhere and rushed home, assembled his bricklayers and ask them to start building it. Now millions of Imo state funds have been wasted. That was how he built unplanned pedestrian bridges and pulled it down after 1yr. So much waste and that is why Imo state is broke and bankrupt today with no reasonable project to show after 7yrs in office.

Anyone that says the truth is always chino. Chino must have been saying the truth all these while. Chino only hates Imo state because it is backward and worthless.

The Owerri that i saw few days ago is a mere hamlet, nothing on earth shall ever make me or any sane enlightened person to want to live in a dilapidated, filthy, dusty and backward Owerri, no wonder the remaining people there are equally running out. We are here to tell you the bitter truth.

Rape people, they complain, you tell them they are fuelling animosity.

State government spent millions of Naira and established a Campus of AICE in Orlu, the campus was closed down and taken back to Owerri immediately after the governor left. Imo Tax Payers money wasted.

Owerri has blackmailed every governor of Imo state to relocate IMSUTH from Orlu to Owerri. Owerri says a teaching hospital is not supposed to be outside the state capital.

Owerri relocated the state library in Orlu to Owerri immediately after the governor who established the library left office. But the state library in Owerri was established by East Central State government based in Enugu.

Thirty seven years after Imo state was created, no State library exists outside Owerri, but the library at Owerri has gone through all sorts of expansion and beautification and reconstruction. What sort of state is Imo?

All three publicly subsidized universities in Imo state are located in Owerri.

All federal and state housing estates in Imo state are located in Owerri. The little housing estate in Okporo Orlu was never allowed to come to fruition.

Imo state governments have built two cities in one Owerri - old and new Owerri, because every Imo state governor is blackmailed to believe the falsehood that a State capital is supposed to be more developed than any other town in the same state. Some Imo citizens even bought the falsehood.
Because of the falsehood, 95% of the landmass of Imo state remain backward, no water, no roads, no drainage system, no modernity, because Owerri's development must first touch the sky.

What sort of state is Imo?

Your mentor, gov Okorocha sees himself as in a quid pro quo plan with Owerri. The plan is Owerri shall look away from the private university, 5-Star hotels, poly activities stadium, etc, etc which Rochas Okorocha has been building in his village in Ideato south while sitting as governor of Imo state; in exchange, Okorocha government lavishes the development funds of Imo state on Owerri only, with an occasional diversionary scratches of building some short roads or small markets outside Owerri

I am from Imo state.
You are not from Imo state. You publicise gov Okorocha and his Owerri projects, as both of you re-branded Owerri to become Imo state.

Frequently you invite your comrade to come and spam this thread with photos of decadent parts of Imo state.

Traders sacked completely from Douglas road as reconstruction and beautification of the road begins. The signature dirty Douglas road which has been used to play dirty politics is about turning into a highbrow central business district even as work is going on fast at the new architectural masterpiece Somto Mall replacing the hitherto dirty Ekeukwu market.
