Actually that is when History comes in place.
The mistake you are making is that you are confusing history with story.
The Edo are not telling a story, the precolonial documents recorded by euopean traders and explorers who visited the region hundreds of years ago are the things telling the story. That is what we call History. Proven past.
That is the main difference.
Take care.

I can't help it if Benin Kingdom has a great history.

Humility017:

please bro..it's enough let's drop this debate...
it is turning something else and derailing the thread...
I am bini by tribe...and all through my upbringing I have read books some way back in school others through folktales on how mighty the Benin empire was back in the old days...and the conquering of kingdoms and lots more...

but of a truth i believe every tribe in nigeria definetely have same stories that paint them in supremacy..... no one can tell the true story....
so let's leave this story....every ethnic groups will always believe to be the supreme including we the binis....
so let's respect and appreciate each other differences....
good to have such large numbers culminate into one country.....

good afternoon...and how are you doing today?

yeah you're right...he is doing well.
someone of US here still haven't grasp the gospel truth...that most of these players are later reshaped and schooled the rudiments of football upon being signed abroad...
we have no properly equipped academies to train these lad...and get to discover the role best suited for them....
the Europeans are primarilynot driven with the desire to derail their potentials and abilities but rather maximize these players potentials and make judicous use of their abilities...reason why sometimes they change their roles.....

though they're some exceptions...for example kelechi shootin accuracy and being clinical in front of goals obviously made city convert him to be CF...though he was signed as an Am......
so I won't totally condemn these European clubs actions...
you never can tell what would have been had it been ndidi remained as a CB...may be he would not have attain these heights....

so like we always everything happen for our good....only if he look well......

The fact that Iwobi was able to pull off a shot there goes to show his talent. That was a hard angle and I was expecting him to get the ball taken from him.

he can improve on his passing game, but that has nothing to do with his position. His passing game might not have been betterv even as a CB.

He performs his key role very well, but like every other young footballer, there is space for improvement.

Mujtahida:

Me I don't understand the sweat and heat just because someone said that the Bini Kingdom influenced parts of Igboland. Even as non Binis we all read about the powerful Bini Kingdom.( And I'm proud of it. I dey proud of Shaka the Zulu and Imhotep the Egyptian who is recorded as being the first multi genius as I well take pride in the whole of Egyptian cultural advancement, na Bini I no go come take pride in just because na my neighbour abi?)

Is this totally impossible that both cultures influenced each other given the fact of the proximity between Bini and Igboland? Is it not possible that cultural cross currents between both people could have taken place in the past?

Now let me amplify the point you made at the bolded

Just yesterday I was reading in a magazine that the coronation of the Obi of Onitsha is not complete without the emissaries of the Attah of Igala. So if I said igala influenced parts of Igboland (and actually we the Igalas are geographically contiguous with some parts of Igboland. some igala communities are indigenous to Anambra state sef, I never knew until the Nnamdi Kanu saga last year and I was pleased to learn so)

The Ejubejuailo (The Ata’s pectoral Mask) is said to be gotten from the Binis. We call coconut Uno'oba meaning the coconut of the Oba of Bini possibly because the coconut came to igala land from Bini. Igalas have kin relationship with Asaba people, Yoruba (we are so linguistically close to the Yorubas) Nupe, Jukun and Igbirra people. All these cultures, must have influenced each other. Queen Amina of Zaria died in igala land during one of her military expeditions. Imagine Zaria to igala land 500 years ago!

Igalas were at one time paying tribute to the Jukuns. It is even said that the only woman to ever sit on the throne as Attah of Igala was a Jukun Princess. Sometimes I wonder how all these could be considering that the Jukuns are in far away Taraba. But thats the history. so that Onitsha has communities between it and Bini does not make it impossible that Bini influenced Onitsha. And who says that Onitsha too could possibly not have influenced Bini?

Why the frothing almost wounded sensitivity to such an assertion as made by Martz101?. For me it's even a good thing that contrary to what many think our people were relating culturally, economically and linguistically long before the white man came. This much has been established by the historiographical works of people like Professor E. J Alagoa who showed how the communities in the Niger Delta were relating in commerce, culture and politics before the white man came. And then Professor Abdullahi Smith of A. B. U Zaria (an English man who converted to islam) did same thing about the kanem Bornu Kingdom and Hausa land in the North.

Now to what you said about Arabic. - Alcohol, Algebra, Almanac, alkali (in chemistry) and so many other words I can't recall now are all Arabic words that have been anglicised.
Thug is from the Hindu thuggee, guru nko? Tycoon is from the Japanese Taigun.

If countries as far as India, Arabia Japan could influence English language what about ethnic cultural groups who live so closely here in Nigeria.

That your culture was influenced by another culture does not make it weak, does not mean you are subservient to the influencing culture. Go and do an analysis of the English language and you'd be shocked how it has borrowed words from French, Latin, German, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Arabic language and yet it is the number one global language.

Is a joy to see intelligent mind like you that discuss issue like this with a matured touch to it. let me add that cultural and language influence has no geography bound, the itsekiri people who are Yorubish in there culture, language and names live in the present day delta state surrounded by igbos and benin.

Words in today Yoruba still has Arabic influence to it e.g Adura, alubosa and barika...languages travel just like some English words are influence by the French

We need Ndidi back as central defender. I am not comfortable with the way European coaches change our players position[though not only ours ooo that Bolivian at Man U], Mourinho 'killed' Michael[Mikel] Obi,a potent attacking midfielder,Gbenga Okunowo,a solid midfielder was turned into a defender at Barcalona by Van Gaal, now, that coach at Gent has turned Ndidi into a defensive midfielder while the guy is a superb central defender

Under Siasia and Obu,as an u21,he was our best junior defender, two solid world cups. I believe that had Ndidi being allowed to blossom in his natural position,he would have shown more class that Cannavaro and Puyol by now

They are professional and should adapt to change, Ndidi is doing very well in the midfield

My friend calm down, you dont need such hate speech and insult, now to the festival our "Ofala" was influenced by the IGUA festival, you can investigate on that in your spare time.

for the kingship system, the western Igbo practice very similar one with the benin people, where royal family are recognised, I'm sure you've had about the saying "igbo ewe eze" it means igbo dont have kings but it only apply To the heartland igbo area which include the imo, abia and some part of ebonyi.

You tried translating the names I listed which even made you look more confused OLISAdebe you said means God preserve but you forgot to tell us that OLISA is a benin word for God, we all know what igbo call God, and in imo or abia that name should be CHIdebe or CHUKWUdebe.

Bros onitsha was not the only region greatly influence by the great benin empire, present day rivers, delta, bayelsa, ondo, ekiti and even lagos was influence too.

So lets stop derailing this thread, but if you really wanna talk more about it, we could continue probably via WhatsApp

Bro i think you're actually d cause of this debate. How is Olisaeburuwa a Benin word? That imo and abia people dont use d word does not make it a borrowed word. Igbo dialects, cultures and gods differs. You can tell which part of igboland someone is from by his attire and secondly by his dialect and I beleive all these dialects are influenced by d language of their neighbouring tribes, its just vice versa. So dont tell me the tribes that influenced igbo without telling me how igbo influenced them.

Cant you see we are saying the same thing, I'm an igbo man and I dont see how is a shame to be influence by a certain people, Lagos which is the commercial hub of Nigeria was influence too. Just like the igbo people influence some part of river state, just like calabar people influence the ohafia and Abiriba people in present day Abia state.

Everyone know God in igbo is CHI and CHUKWU and the benin is OLISE, OLISA or OSA, why does the western Igbo choose to beat names like olisaemeka instead of CHUKWUemeka. If you go to Abiriba or ohafia in Abia they bear name like Obasi which means God in calabar.

I actually did not cause the argument, I was only trying to help in solving the puzzle of the OSAYI guy root,

There you go again. Igbo people influence some part of Rivers. I think you are actually misunderstanding Tribe for state. The indigenous people has lived so many years before the creation of states, the creation of states by the Military Government divides tribes into different states thereby causing a lot of identity crisis in Nigeria today. Are you surprised that there are Igala speaking tribe in Anambra state today? Please dont misunderstand states as boundary for tribes.

I think we should also not confuse language with "tribe".
I guess each state has its own history, not all state was born due to millitary regimes and even those who were born in military regimes were not all artificial. Let us stop acting as if the same thing happened to each and every state.
Bendel was part of Benin Kingdom, it seperated from the western region after a vote from Bendel people.
It was later devided into two.

Ex-Nigeria U20 Captain Ajagun Scores Eighth Goal Of The Season For Kortrijk

Published: April 15, 2018
Ex-Nigeria U20 skipper Abdul Ajagun was on target for Kortrijk as they claimed a 2-0 win over Lierse in the Belgian First Division A playoffs on Saturday.

Jeremy Perbet opened the scoring for the visitors at the Herman Vanderpoortenstadion in the 33rd minute, bundling home the ball from a corner.

Twelve minutes into the second half, Ajagun made it 2-0 when he capitalized on a loose ball after a shot was blocked by goalkeeper Rakovsky.

The number eight has been directly involved in 13 goals ( 8 goals, 5 assists) from 34 appearances in all competitions this season.

As a result of the win, Kortrijk are second in Group A of the UEFA Europa League playoffs with six points, one less than Peter Olayinka's Zulte-Waregem, and their Nigerian star is the club's joint-leading scorer in the playoffs.

Up next, Glen De Boeck's side welcome OH Leuven to Guldensporenstadion on Tuesday.
