Did he say ALL youth of Nigeria are lazy?

Besides semantics, I put it to you, the Nigerian youth do not display enough creativity.

How much research, patents, world class artistic work would you find in our institutions?
Let me guess..that's government's fault.

Ok let's go to the number of our young people who have access to the internet. How many are involved in programming, animation, international research syndicates?

Let me guess...that's the government's fault.

Here on Nairaland, start a topic with a misleading headline and wait to find how many would spot the disconnect between the headline and the body of the message.

Let me guess... it's the government's fault.

The youth of Nigeria are lacking in creativity and please don't give me Nollywood and Afro music. It can take only a few entrants.

We need people who want to create and constantly think of solutions.

We need people who channel their energy positively and not in cult activities, Yahoo or drug use.

Talking about drugs, this poor nation is experiencing a new wave of drug abuse...tramadol, codeine, skunk etc.
That's what the nation is about.

Many Nigerians are of the misconception that the country is rich but the reality is that we aren't.

Yes we have the potential to be wealthy, but we are a poor nation in every way, shape or form.

It is your choice to accept the criticism.

You can go renegade and discount it.
It is your life, your future. Play it as you wish.
i dont think You understand what's called enabling environment. No creativity can come out where the environment doesnt allow its flow. China, Indonesia and the likes are a good example. A country can't flourish where theres insecurity n other political n economical ill-factors like high interest rate, poor educational system. Pls back ur point by listing out inventors who came from terrible countries like Nigeria wivout any wealthy or influencial parents. Baba biko think before you talk. And mind U i graduated with a 2,1 in Electronic/Computer Engineering buh I am a successful poultry farmer. So think deep before U hit back. There is a model called PESTEL analysis, I learnt while doing ICAN. Pls google it. Its used to scan the Business environment while Analysing a company's strategic position. Maybe U will understand that you dont just start a business cos U r skillfull buh because the environment supports it. So sir Govt policies e.g fiscal policy, monetary policy, supply side policy, education policies n the likes av massive effect on a nation's economy. Wonder how you didnt even see Voting an Illiterate who doesnt even know how to spell Macroeconomics as a problem but fast to judge the Nigerian youths. You against Nollywood, US economy is saved by the entertainment and sports industry presently cos China have taken over, hence why Trump is head-on against China. Your issue is that you are myopic and condescending

I once recall in Dubai when we did a cleaning job with loading and unloading inclusive, we Africans guys.(5 Nigeria, 2 Cameroon) did the job a day. With no food just to be loyal with our albab to give us visa.
He protected for the non availability of food and he sacked us.
He employed some Pakistan's guys and it's was funny that what took us a day is taking this guys 2 to 3 days. The albab knows we are hardworking and what he did was to stylishly call us back. Nigerians are not lazy. If you are I am not.

Don't even think you have a point. Your argument is baseless, stupid, empty, and wayward.

How many research institutions do you have in Nigeria

How many tech ecosystem do you have in Nigeria

How many students are on scholarships

Look at the government owned primary and secondary schools, count how many of them work.

So a youth of 20yrs should have built these things from their mother's womb prior to their birth?

We graduate engineers, chemist's, doctors, pharmacist to mention a few every year do they get employed.

We are oil producing country, but how many of our refineries are functional

I can't continue to mention things, a degenerated fool, sycophant, miscreant like you will continue to support a failed system. If you are not an slowpoke you would have know the negative picture Nigerian youth will have after that statement by your useless and incompetent president.

I can continue to rain curses on you but it does not change the fact and the negative opinion you have about yourself. I believe that you are not productive and will likely oppose any move to be creative or innovative. People like you waste no time to sell their rights off for a token that won't put food on your table or save a life.

Finally, I believe in Nigeria and the youths of this great Nation.

Your argument is whack

How can the Youth manifest their potentials when the government refuses to invest in them. How many Nigerian youth does the government assist with scholarship lately?

Even student cant pay their tuition because the bleeping govt refuses to pay their folks' salaries.

Do your research well and see how many Nigerian youth in diasporas doing well.

Nigerian youths are not lazy. They only lack empowerment

I have probably been to over 21 countries. So telling me to go abroad to see how things function is misguided.

I have studied the Nigerian character and I mean the typical, we are averse to truth.

Yes, many have a daring spirit but much more think the nation is wealthy and they have been shortchanged down the wealth chain.

Truly, they have been shortchanged but they have not been given their aliquot share of the little.

Presently, the man you love to hate is the one doing everything to change the narrative but deep down their is a prejudice that many of you have such that any suggestion he makes is followed by resistance.

Funny it is the likes of Fayose and Atiku that you look up to.

I dey laugh.
where the hell are you from in Nigeria? You don't even know Nigeria very well.you really sound so educated but the enthusiasm you're using to defend this undefendable venomous statement from Buhari is shocking..

How can the youths be productive when all the political positions are held by old cargoes? Why can't the youths be lazy in a country where they can't secure loans to start off a petite business? Why can't the youths be lazy in a country where employment is based on the connection you have and not eligibility? Why can't the youths be lazy in a country where everything is based on ethnicism, nepotism, religion and sectionalism. The youths should know that the time for real change is NOW.

Yes alot of youths are engaged in Cult activities

Yes some are engaged in Internet Fraud - Yahoo Yahoo

But a majority are trying to make ends meet. We went to school in an already broken Educational system, but we still do TDB's because we want a better life.

How many youths write Jamb every year, how many of them even get addmission?

How many youths graduate every year? How many of them pass out of NYSC every year?

I am a Nigerian youth, and I'm working my ass off to make a better life for myself.....

Go out of the country, and see how Nigerian youths are excelling--Why? duh, because the Country where they reside is organised.

Nigerian Youths are the brightest and most hardworking any day anytime..........

In the eyes of Buhari we're Lazy and waiting on "oil Money" abi?....next year isn't afar off.

Beware the Ides of March.....

Go and read Buhari's statement again. He started by saying "MANY have not gone to school" so those that are in school are not being criticized for being lazy. The lazy are those not schooling, working or undergoing apprenticeship. If anybody fall into this category, is the person not lazy?

Are you done?

Of course you would get likes and shares which is what you crave.

It is the likes and shares that would propel the youth to act, to think, to create.

Continue talking about ecosystems as if they created themselves.

Continue waiting for that Messiah that would address all the ills of our society.

Get your PVC ready as is the present slogan ...the Messiah is on the way.

Before you mutter accusations and blames on youths, Mention platforms the government put in place to encourage creativity and empowerment?

Are the youths automatically supposed to make capital appear?

Youre are looking at the effect of a bad government and confusing it as the result of the Nigerian youth nonchalant attitude towards self empowerment.

Ok i have an idea. A very creative business idea that would not just grant me self employment but will also empower over 1000 youths. Its obvious no body would be of help. Not the government, not the private sector and definitely not YOU!

you talking drugs. Drug is the consequence of a dead end. Many youths have reached that dead end because no one is doing anything about the constant degrading economy. Where do you expect them to turn to? Can you blame them?

Shun that so called creativity youre talking about. Inso far as those basic things required to live like human biengs in this country continues to be difficult to acquire (light, food, clothing and shelter). No positive result can be expected from the youths.

It is so glaring from your analysis that you lack understanding of the impact of systems on creativity. Nobody thrives in a hostile environment and that's why Nigerian youths are one of the most hardworking set of people you will ever meet. Despite the harsh environment they are still trying to make ends meet. Do you know the amount of tech start up being set up by Nigerian youths yearly? But the poor economic system is definitely going to choke them up. You want a failed system to give you the best results. Try to understand things before you critcize them. Criticism is the easiest job anyway.

correct bro!!!even most wont be able to read this your write up till the end, shouting it is too long, the thing is most youths believe hard work is physical work but no!!! we are lazy in developing our mental strength, we are not putting our brain to work, an average nigerian hates tasking his brain, they are are just too comfortable in their comfort zone, i think our sensitivity to religion can partly be held responsible because a brain that is too religious has already been partitioned and can not work optimally

I dont want to argue with u bro.. because i can see that u have made up ur mind to defend this senseless statement. Pls, tell ur leader to provide Nigerian youths with stable electricity, access to stable, affordable and fast internet connection, make schemes available for people to easily have their own house, provide water, make fuel cheaper and available, build research hubs, build good roads, make it easier for me to travel to Lagos, Enugu, PH, Kano, etc, faster and cheaper. If ur leader can do these, Nigerian youths will do well. Above all, tell ur leader to improve our educational systems. It is sad how we think education starts and ends in university. My brother, one of the most important education is the primary school education and the secondary school education. Citizens of developed countries can do far better with secondary school education. Have u seen where our kids learn? Creativity is either gotten naturally by birth or developed by the educational system.

The pry and seconday school systems we run here are poor and will only make majority of the population dull and mentally lazy. If ur leader doubts me, he can enroll his kids to govt owned pry and secondary schools. It is sad we dont know the importance of pry and secondary schools to the development of youths!

Our youths are exposed to environment lacking creativity and motivation. I grew up from police barracks and i can tell u that i lacked motivation. I went to a useless govt pry and secondary schools. It took extra ordinary works for me to find my head. Bro, forget sentiments, Nigerians have been robbed by both Buhari and other leaders..

when it is time for wealth to circulate to those of us who struggled to graduate from school with good grades, we try to apply to get jobs at CBN, SON, FIRSC, etc (u know those lucrative agencies in FG), we dont get such jobs. Same jobs are given to same kids whose parents failed to give us standard pry, secondary and university educational systems. The same people who already have plenty, they still go about occupying such positions. Is that okay by u? Judge ur heart!

Go out there and see how Nigerians work their ass out to make a living! I can put it to u that majority of Nigerian youths are not lazy. The lack of creativity u are talking about can be linked to poor pry and secondary school systems most families are exposed to. You cant blame such families. My dad was a policeman and how much was his salary? He had me and my siblings to feed. He couldnt afford quality education for me.

I had to work harder to get admission into a top FG university and came out with second class upper. Applied for jobs here and there and got one useless job with 35k as monthly pay. They almost killed me with straight 9 hours of work for five days. I worked there for two years before i ran away. I applied to join FG agencies but i knew no one. Senators, house rep members, top govt officials took away the positions. I even applied to join police. Na still man who know man system.

I had to resort to freelancing. My brother, forget sentiments, my story is similar to that of millions of Nigerians. We have no right to condemn the average Nigerian youth. He has been thru a lot. I have seen it all.

Most nigerian youths have to deal with poor electricity and expensive fuel. During the last fuel scarcity, i lost many jobs online due to poor electricity and unavailable and expensive fuel. My brother, some of us deal with poor internet connections and poor customer service treatments by telecoms and banks. What else do u want the average Nigerian youth to do? From nothing, some of us have built a world to eat at least. Bro, if i av a gun, i will gun down our entire leaders, not just Buhari. I am only hurt that Buhari made this comment. A man who can not stand treating him self in any Nigerian hospital. A man who can not stand having his kids school in Nigeria.

of course, he knows the systems on ground can never make his kids creative except they work extra, extra, extra hard.. like i said on my fb wall, u need to be a super human to make it in Nigeria.

Pmb is an expired Nigerian telling Nigerian youth's to go to back to the farm with hoes and cutlass when the rest of the world uses tractors, harvesters and combined harvester's machines.he wants his fellow hardworking Fulani to have grazing lands for nomadic cattle rearing walking upandan killing people while the rest of the world that provide better milk and cattle use cattle ranches.pmb thinking faculty has expired is only taking nigeria backward from economic progress.he should be ashamed of declaring to recontest for president when he has no project to show for 4yrs.he is infact nigeria,s laziest president ever.

Yes we have the potential to be wealthy, but we are a poor nation in every way, shape or form.

It is your choice to accept the criticism.

You can go renegade and discount it.
It is your life, your future. Play it as you wish.

You give dem job wey dem nor do?

"Nigerian youths are lazy" yet over 1 million has so far applied for a 30k Npower job. Is that your own definition of laziness?

Now to the real issue: there is something international relations people call "diplomacy". You don't go to a foreign land and start saying rubbish about your people. If you say of a fact that 60% of the people are lazy, why can't he just say 40% of Nigerian youths are highly and extremely resourceful people? Leave the listeners to make assumptions on the remainder (60%). Wouldn't you have achieved the same mathematical purpose by being more diplomatic?

Do you know the effect of that statement on your own prospects? Which international organization having heard that statement from the No. 1 citizen would consider a "lazy" Nigerian youth for a meaningful role?
More than ever, the 40% will now have to prove themselves. Who are the 40%? Where are they? You think you're among? Buhari has just made your life more difficult

Some of us know you simply choose to be mischievious.

You just came to Nairaland to expose your ignorance man pls is buhari hard working? And you mean the youths should provide Internet for themselves?and for how long accessibility and availability What qualification does he have what percentage of Nigerian youths are on drugs? Is nigeria not rich? Yes we are if not for poor leadership and mismanagement how does that translate to youth laziness? Just keep quiet it's not a must to comment

Alas those words in black confirm that you are pro-buhari.
Its needless taking you serious.
You may as well lick his anus. Goodluck to you the most hardworking Nigerian youth while the rest of us are lazy to the bone.

Beware the Ides of March.....

my brother where did you get this brain from I swear God go bless your hustling, leave that man alone make I no talk waiting dey my mouth. like father like son

Creativity can't survive alone, it needs funding! Do they learn arts for free? Everything still boils down to government either way you look at it cos the foundation has not be laid for creative maintence and sustainability!

Please I repeat! This is what we get when we vote unscrupulous human beings to the sit of power!
I owe nobody apologies for my statement.
How can an incumbent president make such statements against it's citizen, let's call a spade, a spade there could have been better ways of addressing this issue and not the way he did...
An enlightened presidio could have answered this question in a more matured way without causing issues like this!
Which way Nigeria??

I have been to all the states in Nigeria except the North East and over 21 countries worldwide.

I have worked in forests of Benue, Cross River , Nassarawa and stayed in the best of places in the States, UK, South Africa etc.

I have killed scorpions and snakes and been ravaged by sandflies and bees.

I am Ijaw/Itsekiri.

When you achieve half of any of these then maybe we can have a conversation.
