Mentally they are. physically they not so lazy. The physical can be manipulated with chemicals and that is what we see daily with tramadol addicts.

Your argument is too shallow to dignify with a debate.
You are quoting already established companies in Nigeria as evidence of contemporary foreign direct investment? Some of this firms have been in business in Nigeria before you were born.

mtn

dangote

Some of us know you simply choose to be mischievious.

Did he say ALL youth of Nigeria are lazy?

Besides semantics, I put it to you, the Nigerian youth do not display enough creativity.

How much research, patents, world class artistic work would you find in our institutions?
Let me guess..that's government's fault.

Ok let's go to the number of our young people who have access to the internet. How many are involved in programming, animation, international research syndicates?

Let me guess...that's the government's fault.

Here on Nairaland, start a topic with a misleading headline and wait to find how many would spot the disconnect between the headline and the body of the message.

Let me guess... it's the government's fault.

The youth of Nigeria are lacking in creativity and please don't give me Nollywood and Afro music. It can take only a few entrants.

We need people who want to create and constantly think of solutions.

We need people who channel their energy positively and not in cult activities, Yahoo or drug use.

Talking about drugs, this poor nation is experiencing a new wave of drug abuse...tramadol, codeine, skunk etc.
That's what the nation is about.

Many Nigerians are of the misconception that the country is rich but the reality is that we aren't.

Yes we have the potential to be wealthy, but we are a poor nation in every way, shape or form.

It is your choice to accept the criticism.

You can go renegade and discount it.
It is your life, your future. Play it as you wish.

Stop being stupid.

YES. Nigerian youths are lazy.
They are also used to being told they are lazy which is a surprise that Buhari's words said in a certain context is generating furore. Every student in school, young worker in the office and apprenticeship intern is being told this same thing everyday.

In northern Nigeria, there is 60% unemployment and a growing drug epidemic. Maybe some people like politicians who tell lies but if you want a President who lies maybe they should vote for Atiku.

Vote Atiku for how much

Speak for yourself.

The stats are stark and they are revealing.

We are simply not creative as a nation. No amount of sugarcoating would change that reality.

I can equally tell you to go abroad and see the number of Nigerians involved in crime.
That doesn't make ALL young Nigerians to be criminals.
I put it to you the president never said ALL young Nigerians were lazy.

Of course, there are many who would not have voted him anyway looking to feel insulted, looking to amplify his statement so as to put pressure on others to exact some hate .

Again, I repeat. It is your choice. Your life. Play it as you will it.

All the best graduating students I've heard of online always go home with 10k or 5k and barely get anything meaningful, what kind of encouragement is that. Creativity comes not just from the mind but from environment the few that have started something did govt support any of them to continue? what about our car assembler innoson how many of us patronise his biz, majority of his sales comes from his state govt( police and military vehicles) what about the shoe cobblers how many of the have access to good machinery yet they make good sandals and some good shoes, what about our clothing we wear cloths a lot yet we have no textile company not govt owned or even private. Is it the youths that will go and bring investors Youths are employed as graduates to the ministry and earn less than 100k for salary while minimum wage in countries we're far richer than is 3x or more than what minimum wage is in Nigeria, that's why our youths do unbelievable things to leave this place to where their labour will be well paid for.

Upon your advanced age and your so called educated status, you still don't know it's called Rolls-Royce.

Are those viles you mentioned peculiar just to the Nigerian youth? There's no prostitution, drug abuse and other societal viles outside the shores of this country?

How can you even try to rationalize such a blatant and brazen blasphemy against the Nigerian youth? I can forgive him if the only youths he comes across in his life are the Northern youths which fits perfectly into what he describes, but to generalize the entire Nigerian youth into such a sick statement is a blasphemy.
northerners are farmers
what do southerners do,after school?wait for oil money.
and he said some not all youth
ua the one generalising

Let us even deliberate on the education part. Statistics from JAMB shows that over 6mil youths applied to write UME this year out of which there are only 300,00 spaces for them. A horde of uneducated youths will not be seeking admission into higher institution.

must they all go to uni
those that went what did they get out of it
mental laziness

There is no basis to try and rationalize his statement; none at all.

A hopeless statement. Nothing works in Nigeria.

yes

Is that also the fault of the Youth.

yes

When graduates will come out no job

e boku

, no light,

fix it

no health care system,

build it

nothing virtually works in Nigeria.

that means maximum jobs for hardworking ppl not lazy oil money waiters

Why wont the stupid man say so. What has he put in place for the Youth.

so if your father refuses to train you you will not survive

Youth will struggle and struggle and die as a Youth, while the fools of 70s keep holding positions of authority tight.

they struggled as youth
its not their fault you are lazy

So tell me the avenue for the Youth to work and exhibit their potentials.

agric
manufacturing
services

Why do the Nigerian Youths succeed and shine immediately they step out of the shore of this country.

because there is no oil money for them and they will starve

Stupid statement from a hopeless entity.

truth is truly bitter

This fools keeps disgracing Nigerians at any slighted opportunity he has. His son that crashed with almost 5million naira power bike, where is he working and how much is his salary per month, if actually he is engaged in any meaningful work. Lazy fools.

You made a few points sir, but everyone cannot become programmers, I'm into programming even though I didn't study computer science in school, not because I didn't want to but admission issues and pressure made me look elsewhere cos time was going, I learnt all I know in web development today through online tutorials and videos.

What I'm driving at is Nigerian Youths (majority as said by the president) aren't lazy, it's circumstances that made some of us result to vices et al.
yet you adjusted wen circumstances were unfavorable

What we need are very few highly innovative minds

this is where the laziness is most

to help improve our current status as a country and our educational system has a major role to play in that aspect. Not everyone will be like some of us that self educate ourselves.

Quality education is very paramount to development of any nation and sadly we lack that here. The youths can do very little in reforming the education sector.
you learnt ffrom youtube
youth can teach by youtube but are too lazy to make videos

Your creativity will die with you in an environment that's not enabling.

if you are truly creative you will create enabling environment

Basic amenities should be in place for a youth to function properly.

how many amenities were in place when west invented said amenities?
bad workman blames amenities

How do you research without a functioning library, no labs, electricity or security?

how did they do it in 14th century(laziness)

Buhari said we are waiting for free money and food because we are oil producing country...... How true is this?

you just said you are waiting for amenities

Do you wait for PHCN or you just forget about them and buy fuel for your gen?
why didn't you wait for amenity

I have never seen anyone the government feed freely unless you are in jail but then you have to work in jail to eat from the govt.

civil servants and rice collectors

Does the govt provide you medical care freely?

try and visiit govt hospitals to know that not everyone is fortunate like you

Do you expect them to?

yes they do

In fact I can list thousands. I challenge you to list just one thing Nigerian Govt is providing its citizens........just one thing.
what they voted for, rice, tribalism and religious nonesense
