there r people that have lived in U.S for long and have nothing to account for, people that are destined to excel in Nigeria would live on average in U.S , if Ambode is in U.S hustling he wouldn't be a Governor.Everyone has a purpose once again.

bro, just remove destiny from this explanation. You can work n plan to fulfill a purpose. Almost all who lived in the US for long and have nothing to show for is because they failed to plan. The country has created a platform to advance in whatever you do, only what you need is just planning.

What I mean is not everyone will surely make it in abroad. Some people try but eventually find out they can easily make it here. We are all different okay? Things work out for us in different ways. No two heads Are the same.

The only way you can "easily" make it in Nigeria is if you scam people via politics, religion or sitting behind a computer.

Nice one Frank.

Sometimes back, I went to a job board in search of job, any job, dishwasher, housekeeper, warehouse loader, carpet cleaner...any available job; Most of the people I saw were blacks like me, young, handsome, fresh, browny and able men and women..mostly black.
I went also to a meetup for web programmers, It was an introduction to a technology (React.JS framework), looking around I discovered I was the only black! SMH.

I pray niggers hurry up to take their God given positions before every position is taken..

After what seemed like an eternity, a police car pulled into the gas station and approached my car. I explained what the problem was, he sympathized with me and said I should go into the gas station and keep warm while he heads down to the office to get help. He later came back with a jumper pack and helped kick start my car. I was so grateful, I even asked for a picture. He obliged grin

As I drove home, I kept thinking of how much naija police man for collect for my hand grin

He brought up something called “section 8” which is a government assistance program for low income earning single mothers. They government would pay you a specific amount of money for the rest of your life as long as you don’t have a working class man in your life.

It wasn’t the first time I had heard something like that, so I looked it up sometime ago and had some rudimentary knowledge about it. so we talked. He said the “section 8” program was put in place to help. I said in a way, it helps, in a way it doesn’t. I cited the fact that black people now use it an excuse not to foster the values of family. why hustle with a spouse to get a good life when you can decide to have as much kids as you want and the government would keep paying you money every month. Why stress yourself working a job, chasing a career when all you need to do is sit your ass at home and get a paycheck every month? But then again, these kids you’re bringing into the world, who’s going to train them? Who is going to instil good values into their heads? Who is going to discipline them, show them the right way to do stuff?
I followed that train of thought and pointed out that one of the reasons why Africans excel so much is because of something as basic as starting and keeping a family together. A family with a father and mother figure where the parents are keeping their kids in check, bringing them up in the right way, teaching them the values of hardwork and most importantly, morality.
Who born you to refuse to go to school in an African home? When all you need is to show intent and you can get funding to study to any level?

In the end, we agreed to disagree that indeed there are different levels to “fvcked up” and that the ability to discern right from wrong, the awareness of oneself to choose to be useful by going to school, learning a trade, chasing a career and doing the right things cannot be congenitally instilled in a child; that these have to be taught in a family, but who would teach it when the family structure is broken?

I ended the conversation with an impromptu quote:
nobody is born with a moral compass, it has to be taught

I was glad I had that conversation because I came across another epiphany. smiley

@franknetter quick questions.

Between nursing and pharmacy which pays more in the state?

Which is more in demand/ for more job opening?

Which will be easier for a Nigeria graduate to migrate with and get a job with good hourly pay?

Which is considered more prestigious??

Thanks much...

I would suggest programming, if you can. Very important - Do NOT pay anyone to learn programming. All the resources you need are available for free online. You just need the time and dedication. Good luck!

The requirements to get a job is kind of rigid though, for instance to be a junior web dev, some places require a minimum of a degree in computer science, some require like 3 years experience along with skills in up to 2 languages, various frameworks, libraries , APIs, databases etc.

You start somewhere and build just like any other job. This is the reason the Indians on visa sponsorship have taken a large chunk of the jobs, while the locals struggle to compete.

Congrats bro. Going through dis your thread and d pix actually made me drool. The Lord that changed your status will change mine too very soon. This country Nigeria has no plan for the youths nor d masses. Na d fastest way to leave dey hunger me. We keep hoping it will get better but it keeps getting worse. Ppl keep saying no place like home but in the real sense to me, home is where joy is and where people can boast of a comfortable life whether abroad or local. Home is where the life of the citizens are more important than anything. Home is where an average citizen can afford 3 square meals per day. Home is where security is well guaranteed. Home is where there is no huge discrepancy between the rich and the poor. Home is where our resources and funds are not being embezzled by our corrupt leaders . Home is where there are job provisions for graduates. HOME is where there is HOPE!! Home is, home is, home is, home is.................. ABROAD

You don't get it because you've never experienced the hardship people in Nigeria are facing. One wouldn't value something until they lose it. You were born in comfort while Nigerians had to suffer just to get by everyday so, if he is mesmerized by the new environment, don't blame him. And besides, he is doing this to entertain Nigerians and try to make them feel what it is like. He is sharing HOPE so, help him while he is at it.

I know the feeling of uncertainty and doubt that Nigerians face every single seconds of everyday, believing that everything would be better SOMEDAY but that day is not anytime soon. So, let him offer HOPE in the least way he can and also, lets try to appreciate him for his effort.
