That wont happen as the cheque wont be accepted
No need calling the seller a FOOL as this can happen to anybody you inclusive!

He is a fool. How can you not scrutinize a financial instrument given to you?

Have you ever worked as a cashier or handled money for your employers before? If you did, can you tell me how much diligence you deployed in all your dealings? If you werent able to do that you will soon find yourself out of a job. That is the reality and there is no need to sugar coat anything.

He has no basic rules as to how he treats transactions, I hope he learns his lessons from this one. But People make mistakes and learn lessons from it. It could have been worse.

SARS, is one the problems we have in this Nigeria, someone is weeping because of 220k and they told him to bring 50k,like seriously?

Excellent Point Evablizin. That is our major problem. Their number one priority is to stop this scammer, but imagine they are looking for 50K.

Go and deposit the cheque, when it bounces, he will be reported to the CBN, who will in turn hand the matter over to the EFCC.

I can assure you that that man will be fished out in less than three years.

If there is any crime that elicits quick response from all the law enforcement arms of this country, it is cheque forgery and issuance of dud cheques.

Issuing a dud cheque is a financial crime that carries at least 5 years prison term without an option of fine.
deposit it where? No bank will accept the cheque of a defunct bank, not to talk of taking it to clearing

It might be worth trying, although the likelihood of prosecution is very slim.

But the seller is a fool. Oceanic bank became defunct more than 6 years ago!!

Not everybody knows that. He is not a fool. I am so happy that he got the picture of the man and he is parading it for all to see. He was just a victim period. Police should've fished him out quickly.

See somebody's father, uncle and possibly grandfather engaging in fraud and duping a young man probably young enough to be his son. I'm so glad that the camera captured the thief's face so his family can see what their man does for a living. Shameless, shapeless ugly thief that looks like a direct descendant of a baboon, he will meet his waterloo very soon. This is why it is very important to not be so desperate to make sales. Don't ever release your goods to strangers unless you have gotten evidence of payment. Never would EVER accept cheques as a means of payment. Like the victim did, keep your camera off flash mode and take discreet shots of your prospective costumer. I hope the bastard is caught and the victim recovers what he lost.

If it's not his true name on the cheque, it's the depositor that will get into more trouble.

The bulge.
That's the telltale sign I first look out for in "pastors"
and it usually gives "guilty ones" away
as a big tummy is likely due to lack of discipline.
Makes me wonder about the spiritual state, if such have a weak state of health consciousness

The man used psychology on the victim and not jazz
He must have said "take this ecobank cheque " by so saying, the victim did not bother looking at the name of the bank on the cheque and dashed off. By using a posh environment he was able to throw the victim off guard.
The victim has learnt a harsh lesson in Nigeria business environment.
Rule no 5. Never accept cheque from people you don't know very well.
How on earth does he accept a cheque from someone that he doesn't know his business premises, his house or knows someone that knows him. Who does that? In a country like Nigeria.
I don't even trust instant transfers not to talk of cheques.
