Super Eagles Captain Mikel Tips FC Porto Loanee Chidozie Awaziem For Greatness

Captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria John Obi Mikel says the quality of young players coming through the ranks in the national team of Nigeria is a sign that the team will dominate world football soon.
Nigeria are heading to the World Cup with probably the youngest team after Germany, and Mikel believes the move by coach Gernot Rohr will help the team in the future in major tournaments.
While speaking on the rise of so many talented youngsters in the senior national team of Nigeria, Mikel particularly pointed out Chidozie Awaziem who is on loan to Nantes of France from Portuguese giants FC Porto as a potential star.

”In such a short time we have produced so many talented players who are young and determined. There’s a chance of seeing some of them continue their progress at the World Cup in Russia “, Mikel told Owngoalnigeria.com in an interview facilitated by a source close to the Tianjin Teda man.

”Awaziem has impressed me with the number of games he has played at French side Nantes this season. Considering where he was coming from at Porto, where he lost his first team status, he has done well at Nantes. He can however grow into a great defender if he keeps working hard.
”It is the same with most of the young players we have in the team. They will all grow into super stars if they keep working hard. We could dominate world football in years to come."

I am not trying to judge him on that. I’ve been a J.Obi supporter. But the point I’v been trying to make is that all things being equal, prior WC experience can give a player an edge .

Icon79:
Like I said, I don't judge him based on those two games. Those two games were not our best games, especially the Serbia game, so it might be unfair base your decision on them. Let's see how he performs in the remaining friendly games especially when the full squad is available.

Zulte-Waregem Declare Out Of Favour Super Eagles Left Back Madu Surplus To Requirements

Belgium top division side Zulte-Waregem have taken the first step in severing their ties with Nigerian left back Kingsley Madu, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.
Madu has struggled to pin down a regular spot in the first team since joining the team from Slovakian side AS Trencin last season, no thanks to injuries and fitness issues.
This season he has been hard hit by injuries with only three league games under his belt. A far cry from last season where he made 12 league appearances with four more in the Cup as opposed to this season with just one cup appearance to his name.
His lack of game time has already cost him his national team spot and it appears it could also lead to his exit from the Belgium side, who are at the moment keen on shipping him out on loan.
”Madu has been told to leave Zulte-Waregem since January but not many teams were interested in him then he got injured. He will be on the move this summer. I’m sure about that, a loan looks likely but he could also be sold permanently”,
Owngoalnigeria.com transfer expert Daniel Martins revealed.

Where do we move Mikel to considering Iwobi’s preferred position is AM?
I have answered your question

I don't think you truly answered the question bro.
Shehu undoubtedly is good both as RB and DM. But can such be said if Iwobi?

We all know Iwobi can not man the AM position comfortably. Even the wing position.

Don't bet on it. It's already 0-1 Bayern.

I still believe in Jupp Heynckes. If the officiating is fair (and that's a big IF), Bayern would come through at the end.

I’ve been mulling over an Ighalo-Simy two prong attack. At least it looks good on paper.

Nice view. But such combination doesn't always work out. Because a two- pronged attack basically requires an SS (supporting striker).
The supporting striker is the one taking the responsibility of dishing out final/ deadly passes to the main striker (creativity and vision) The SS does the dirty work and frees up the main striker to finish the job.

So said, Ighalo and Simy are main and typical strikers.

Eg: Iheanacho, Ideye.
Muller, Ali, Dybala etc

Ideally they should be able to switch roles at any given time.

Yes onazi deserves to be in the team, but don't tell me because someone has World Cup experience he should be in a team,if you play well you deserve to be in the team and if you don't play well you don't deserve to be there so forget about this World Cup experience of a thing.
Do you mean onazi doesn't play well in GWG?

I will decide based on other distinctive qualities. For instance, in the scenario you posed above, I will go with Joel because he's more creative than Onazi. Onazi may be a better marker (one-on-one destroyer) type midfielder but we already have that in Ndidi; hence, I will select J. Obi (as his partner) because he's gonna provide a little bit more creativity than either Onazi or Ndidi.

O pari

What creativity?? That was the Joel of old, bro. He's not more creative than the other duo. Try to be honest.

Where did u see that creativity? Did u watch his Serie A games or is that assumed from his performances in th GWG many years ago? Where?

You're spot in bro. Joel has since lost his creative touch. He showed it for us all to see in the SEs friendlies.

Bros, I started watching Joel Obi as far back as his Inter Milan days. He has always been a creative player, even when they occasionally puts him at LWB. Trust me, we haven't seen the best of him in GWG - provided that he's still the same Joel Obi. And he did show some flashes of the old Joel Obi in the last two games as well, so there's hope.

O pari

This your statement just shows that you're a Joel Obi fanatic. Joel of today is not creative, simple. We're not talking of the Inter Milan days. We don't need glimpses. We already have the "glimpses" from Onazi and Ndidi.
Thank you
