thompson1510:You do not need to write stories in your purpose statement. An overview of key points would give inclinations to a purposeful decision to study in Canada than situational. Your key points should be: - The aim of pursuing your program. -Reason for choosing the program, institution and country( do not generalize. Give a precise reason or two. An officer will weigh these reasons against the option of studying in Nigeria) - How you have prepared for the program.(Past experience, education. It should be in sync or relative to your intended program) - How you intend to apply the knowledge gained from the program.( Again, do not generalise. Give a realistic plan and strategy. They should be within your ability. It is believable when they are) -Your short and long term goal(s)- (Identify a specific problem and a possible solution that would require a process from completing your intending program for your long term goal. Your short term goal can be an obvious one and specific to something already existing) - A strong concluding statement. Truth is, there is no rule of thump on writing a purposeful statement. How you express yourself should be objective, realistic and devour of fairy tales or make believe stories. They won't impress an officer. Also take note that they are looking out for your values and other things you are bringing to their Country. Officers know majority of students especially Nigerians are not likely to return after study. They have statistics already. Keep your stories real, achievable and drawn largely from that which you have found interest in, your passion. Regards. 6 Likes |

A big congratulations to everyone who got a positive response at different stages of the Canadian study path. It will get better if you stay the course and keep your focus right. For those refused study permit applications, get hold of your GCMS note before you start further considerations. It will be a major gamble to reapply without it. A refusal is not the end. You only did not meet a requirement or requirements as the case may be. If you show you can meet it/them, your application will be approved on reapplication. Get help if you need one and importantly, do not underestimate the Canadian visa officers, they are meticulous and not in a hurry to let you into their country. Take your time and use a good strategy. In the end, you will be glad you did. Every effort will be worth it. Wishing everyone the very best. Regards. 7 Likes |

Maxihyfr: 6-4 months worth of SOA is what recommended, try and keep it simple. If that connotes 30 pages, then so be it!! You have to compress all pages to the required Mb. 1 Like |

thompson1510: 10 pages, are you writing a book? Don’t write any long stories abeg. VOs tend to be wary of applicants who are freely giving out info about themselves that was never requested. Don’t start exposing yourself and giving out information about you that will prejudice your application. Keep it simple, concise and straight to the point. That’s the recipy to a winning application. 5 Likes |

Austinpee4: All good and dandy!! But I don’t agree with one thing, VOs don’t know that a majority of applicants are not going to come back to Nigeria. It’s your responsibility to convince them that you would by explicitly showing the factors that would induce your return. If they already knew that majority won’t come, they would approve very very few applications than they already do. I think most will come back, they can’t die in Canada. Most people are simply looking for a way to establish themselves and come back to their homelands and enjoy their halcyon days!! Not many Nigerians die in Canada, at the very least, the chickens do come back home indeed to roost! 2 Likes |

jnyuwa02:Really? Some of your comments always leave me smiling. Anyway, officers already know that folks especially from Nigeria applying for study permits do so in their numbers because of the incentives of studying in Canada and one being a path to permanent residence which will also translate to a better standard of living than the one already in place in Nigeria. However, this will not be applied as a decision base in issuing a study permit as there is an established act and regulation for it. An onus understandable is on the applicant to convince the officer that he/she would depart at the end of study because it is a stipulation and a requirement by the IRP act and regulation that an officer see both in evidence and discretionary that there is a level of a strong tie established in the application. A good reason why it is becoming challenging to overcome the "you have not satisfied me that you would leave Canada....." phrase is largely because there are limited evidence to show that there is a possibility of the applicant to return which must be established even if the choose to return or not. Do not be deceived by thinking they do not know. They share and have statistics and once a student lands and is established, the individual is censured both from the federal and provincial authorities and records are centralized. Approval of study permit is really not in all an applicant put down in writing, but mainly what is evidenced. They will in the long run serve as evidence or proof in conformity to the stipulation of IRP act and regulations in case of a legal action. It is simply a demand of an existing law for a temporary resident to satisfy the officer. Whether you choose to return or not, an applicant has an obligation on this at the point of application and must do it satisfactorily to ease the officer's job and the guiding placed before him/her to issue a study permit which must be in accordance to subsection (11)1 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. A visa officer does NOT reach a decision based on how he/she feels while reviewing the application. It must first be in accordance to the Act and with discretion from same stance point. Pls o.... If your funding covers the required money for you and your family, then will it be that, all you need to show is flights money? Then can a lump sum deposit in my account for flights tickets be overlooked? Or should I use a sponsor? Thanks |

Austinpee4: I agree with you largely. Whether an applicant will come back or not is not the VO’s purview, but whether you have established substantial ties that convinces them you would come back to your domicile, is what they are after —as should be. Knowing whether an applicant will come back is largely subjective. Statitistics do not tell the entire story as many go on to get PR which is allowed by law. Would someone who went on a student visa and obtains PR count as students not coming back to their home countries? And many students do indeed come back to their homelands eventually. The law allows for judgement based on whether you have shown enough ties, not subjective speculations that a majority of people won’t come back. Let us say things that are within the parameters of what they law allows. Nice chatting! |

I got my application approved yesterday!! Thank God! I don't think there's anyone who has read all the post here as much as I have (I have been a ghost follower).. I started from the beginning I actually posted my timeline yesterday but it was blocked. I applied on the 23rd of December. Both my mother and I applied for study permits together. She was approved about 3 week ago. Happily thankful to God and everyone who helped in one way or the other. To everyone who is applying or waiting, your approval is on the way. And to everyone who was delayed, remember God protects his own and everything happens for a reason. School started for me in January but I had to defer it. Unfortunately, my mom and I were told to reapply for our different admissions. That's double payment. We thank God for everything. I just sent my passport and it has been delivered to vfs. Funny enough, we had booked a flight for Sunday. God will make it possible for me to get my passport back before then (Amennn ). Thank you all once again. Don't forget to pray for others too. It goes a long way! 8 Likes 1 Share |

MightyGIE: You need money for flight tickets, Tfare from the airport and money to take care of your family before the scholarship fund hits your account. Lump sum is relative. If you have an account and the highest single deposit is 3m, then 500k or 1m is not a lump sum. But if you have an account and the highest single deposit is 50k, then 200k is a lump sum. 1 Like |
