mistacoco: Through the first multi-billion Naira water supply scheme provided to Owerri by IMSG beginning the 1980s, Owerri became urbanized, expanded by attracting some population from Okigwe and Orlu zones whose water supply schemes proposed the same time by the same IMSG could not come through due to military intervention in 1983. Owerri expanded. But if the population of Owerri Capital territory today is One million people, Orlu is more than half that; same is Okigwe. On weekends and festivities, Owerri is nearly dry, as more people move to Orlu areas where they have homes; lesser move to Okigwe areas. Now, you support IMSG building a second water supply scheme for Owerri, while the water supply schemes of Okigwe and Orlu are not yet realized? Because you believe Imo state was created for development of Owerri zone only? Well, some of you in Imo state were fed the fat lie that a State capital is supposed to be developed by government more than any other town in the state. Rochas Okorocha as governor cemented the lies on your faces. FYI: The government of Nigeria created states and demarcated the states into senatorial zones and local government areas for uniform development of Nigeria, not for development of only the state capital. Imo state was not created for development of only Owerri. If you build a second water supply scheme for Owerri zone without realizing the water supply schemes for Okigwe and Orlu zones, the outcome shall be Orlu and Okigwe zones shrinking to insignificant proportions while development and expansion of Owerri boom to sky level 1 Like |

Abagworo: Popular hotel in Owerri suffers fire outbreak, shuts down indefinitely http://www.punchng.com/popular-hotel-in-owerri-suffers-fire-outbreak-shuts-down-indefinitely/ At least you can see fire service as they arrived the scene. Brothels which is the only economic main-stay of Imo state have been shut down indefinitely because of fire disaster. Imo state is a cursed backward state wired with propaganda. They don't even have ordinary fire service even in their state capital. The question is, when shall the cursed Imo state have their own fire service like other states? 1 Like

BeijinDossier: IMSG led by Okorocha may start three new Fire service stations in addition to the one on Mbaise Road Owerri - The new Fire service stations: One to be built on Douglas Road, Owerri; Second on Egbeada near Owerri, Third on Portharcout Road Owerri. Fire Stations in Orlu and Okigwe have been in coma since Okorocha became governor. Okorocha bought hundreds of Taxis and stationed all in Owerri to serve Owerri. He bought buses and ordered they all serve Owerri. He bought dozens of police patrol cars and ordered they all police only Owerri |

[ I will restore sanity in the governance of Imo State and in the process rebuild the state", with these words, the former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Professor Jude Njoku, declared his gubernatorial ambition ahead of the 2019 general elections. Njoku is gunning to take over from the outgoing Owelle Rochas Okorocha, under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Addressing a huge crowd of party faithfuls at the PDP state Secretariat along Okigwe Road, Owerri, Njoku assured the people of the state that all hope is not lost as he is coming with the a restoration agenda for the state. Njoku said he will "harness the abundant human and material resources and channel our collective energies to place Imo State among the top flight states in the country". He assured the people that he is the most qualified and prepared candidate to lead the collective charge to "reposition our dear state through agriculture, infrastructure, social sector, using the instrumentality of a revived civil service and collaborative support of the private sector and local and international development partners". The former Vice Chancellor of FUTO declared to a cheering crowd of supporters that Imo State will witness massive agricultural development as Oil Palm production will be revamped to a level that it will be a major income earner for the state and it's people. According to him emphasis on food production will go beyond roots and rubber crops but will also expand to livestock production, pointing out that "agriculture will be made very attractive and made to encompass the entire value chain; from production to storage, processing, preservation and marketing". "I promise to open up Imo State through aggressive construction of qualitative roads and drainages. Reputable construction firms will be engaged to build roads and bridges across the state. Ring roads will be constructed within and around Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe in order to decongest the major urban centres of the state", the gubernatorial hopeful further stated. He assured that new satellite towns will be established while local councils will be encouraged to construct and maintain rural roads, stressing that "Urban water supply will be restored and all water plants that have been moribund over the years revived and made functional once again". Njoku stated that education will be given a pride of place under his stewardship in the state, adding that apart from prompt payment of salaries and allowances, the institutions must be supported to secure full accreditation for all their academic programmes". "The state government will partner with the private sector in educational development, particularly in the establishing more quality private universities to increase access to tertiary education for our citizens", he further promised. On health, Njoku assured that health centers would be provided in each community in the state while at least two fully functional general hospitals in each of the three senatorial zones of the state. According to him, "Imo State University Teaching Hospital shall be designated and equipped to be a centre of excellence in medicine so that they can also produce quality medical doctors Inna timely manner". The declaration which caused traffic gridlock along the busy Okigwe Road had in attendance all the State Executive Committee members of PDP, other key stakeholders including Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Senator Sam Daddy Anyanwu among other party faithfuls. Ends. http://www.abujapress.com/2018/05/imo-guber-ill-restore-sanity-in.html?m=1] Spot on with his manifesto. The right candidates are emerging. May 29, 2019, Imo state can't remain or go to the hands of poorly educated persons masquerading as politicians. |

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by discusant: 6:42am On May 14, 2018 |
Ofuzo: Beautiful boulevards in Owerri but with very scanty human and vehicular movements. Implication: successive governors of Imo state waste the federal allocations to Imo state and its lgas to build boulevards in Owerri, while the larger population of the state live on dusty, muddy and squalid streets, especially in Orlu and Okigwe areas. If Owerri has 1 million inhabitants, Orlu Municipal has half as much, or more; followed by Okigwe Municipal. Imo state now needs a fresh governor to redress the huge development imbalance between its three senatorial districts. It's no longer acceptable to have a state where one district is over-developed by the state government, while the other two districts are left decades behind. It's completely false the entrenched belief in Imo state that a state capital is supposed to be developed by government more than any other town or lga in the state. |

amaco13: Try it out yourself. I have driven along the numerous Bypass Roads, 6 Inland Roads, built by gov Okorocha in Owerri. Even in peak hours, you can drive along the roads for up to five minutes without crossing a vehicular or pedestrian traffic on them. The video above of the happy Owerri man even shows it. But people cluster the dusty, muddy and decadent streets in Orlu. That shows that something is seriously wrong with Okorocha's development policy in Imo state, and we don't want a new state governor to follow Okorocha's pattern. Repeat: Nigeria's constitution does not stipulate anywhere that a state capital must be more developed by government than any other town or lga in the same state. |

discusant: If you had looked hard enough, you'd noticed that there is SCANT development everywhere in nigeria. Like I told you before, the only reason you are complaining about SCANT development in orlu is because there was development in owerri. What if you are from abia state, or anambra state or ebonyi state. You see, nnewi, which looks the same way it used to look fifteen years ago, are not complaining about everything being built in awka and not nnewi because nothing is being built in awka. Also, okigwe people are not here everyday whining about this and that. I don't told you several times to sue Okorocha, instead of coming here everyday to disturb our peace. |

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by discusant: 12:05am On May 16, 2018 |
Ofuzo:. Thanks for corroborating my stand all along that Owerri is developing but SCANT development in Orlu But why must Owerri develop but SCANT development in Orlu? I don't see huge industries in Owerri built by indigenes of Owerri. Owerri development is mostly from ill-informed State governors using the federal allocations meant for development of entire Imo state to build Owerri, while rest of Imo state remain far behind Owerri. FYI, the same time Rome was being built, Roman Emperors were also building other Roman Empire cities like, Paris, Barcelona, London, Damascus, etc., if not, the other parts of the Roman Empire could have revolted against Rome and its Emperors. The flawed and Apartheid development policy in Imo state, exacerbated by Rochas Okorocha, must be condemned in any medium, including Nairaland. |
Re: Few Pics From Imo State by Ofuzo: 1:20am On May 16, 2018 |
discusant: Yeah, after I corroborated you on owerri, please return the favor by corroborating me on nnewi people not whining and complaining because there was too much development in awka. Of course, nnewi people cannot complain about too much development in awka because there is not much development in awka! How about afikpo people whining and complaining because there was too much development in abakiliki! Like I told you before, and I'll tell you again, tens of cities in nigeria cannot complain about a sister city getting too much development because there are absolutely no cities getting any developments. If Okorocha had done what other governors did in their states by just coming in and tarring one or two roads in owerri, you will never have been complaining of the neglect of orlu. 4 Likes |

asha80: Why don't you guys create an ebonyi thread to showcase the developmental strides going on in the state. Don't do what anambra people did by abandoning your own thread instead of keeping it going like imo state and enugu state people did. I'm still waiting for abia people to start something, anything. 2 Likes |
