rubbish.... is like telling some one who studied accounting in the University to receive more wages than a chattered accountant... professionalism in Nigeria is taking lightly. until your relation is sick in the hospital and there isn't a doctor to tell those idiots what to do, then your brain that seem to have been use to fry akara will find its way back to the empty skull. All my relations abroad buys as low as panadol with them when traveling back because they wont find a pharmacist to just walked in and demand for drugs unless a doctor recommended prescription. Go do you findings, no pharmacist or its likes can ever understands what Doctors are trained to do. forget all those stupid argument. they are help-meet. if you where trained to hold the leg for me to successfully work on it, do we have the same training. i work as an accountant but not chattered, but i have learn to respect the chattered haven gone through some of the classes. if you want to be a Doctor go back to school and stop this parochial argument. when we were young, when u see a Doctor you think they are next to God and are pride to any family were they are from. where did this political JOHASU nonsense came from? After reading microbiology like someone who read philosophy for 4 years you want to be addressed as Doctors and receive their salary.... you must be mad shullamite: 5 Likes |

hydeka:Don't allow anyone to belittle you. Pharmacy is a noble and respected profession. Wicked Nigeria doctors have tried to pull down that profession due to insecurities but to no avail. Pharmacy is versatile. Many pharmacists don't work in a hospital sef. They connect themselves to a foreign pharm industry as their Nigerian rep and make money, Some take loan and establish their big pharmacy. Big pharmacy make more profits weekly than 90% of private hospitals. Have you seen a pharmacist in a private hospital before? It's beneath them. If you formulate one drug product and sell, it's millions. Hold your head high. You are in a wonderful profession. 8 Likes |

Hairyrapunzel:Your stupidity is legendary! The problem is that you don't know other roles of the pharmacists in the hospital setting outside handing out dispensed drugs to patients. Do you know that some drugs are prepared right there in the pharmacy department?? Do you know that you don't just hand out a drug to a patient, you counsel the patient and follow up his/her treatment by ensuring adherence to the prescription. Do you know that pharmacists are supposed to go on rounds in the hospital to monitor in-patients on how they respond to drug therapy?? Afterwards, they communicate with the physicians on possible adjustments to be made?? Your ignorance is why many patients keep dying avoidable deaths in our hospitals due to drug misuse. How i wish pharmacists would begin to point out numerous prescription blunders physicians make in our hospitals to the public, may be then you would get to know their importance in the hospitals. But they would rather cover up your aszes. 2 Likes |

Nigerian doctors are quite naive in their thinking. Striking by doctors will achieve NOTHING. Doctors need to realise that they are not the only group whose going on strike paralyses hospital activity. If Nurses go on strike at LUTH then work shuts down , this is equally true for other professsionals so if importance is to be judged by who can shut the hospital down by withdrawing their services then no one is more important. This attitude of Nigerian doctors gets many of them into trouble when they travel abroad and have to work in multidisciplinary teams where doctors are not the head. In my thinking Government should hands off Hospital Management and let it go to the private sector then Market forces will determine who gets paid what. The reason this is happening is because it is public sector. In the private sector demand and supply will determine pay. The idea of relativity as sacrosanct is a very stupid one. If I am running a hospital business I pay you for output. The issue is not only about pay difference between professions but even WITHN professions. If a surgeon perfoms 1000 procedures a year and another 200 should they receive the same pay? The reality is that Nigeria can never have enough doctors and increasingly we will have independent non medical practitioners having their own caseload. To my mind they could earn more than doctors if they are bringing in the money. That is the essence of performance related pay. You come into my establishment and get paid fom revenue you generate. Those who generate more revenue should earn more. In such a regime a junior doctor could earn more than his supervisor/ boss. Welcome to the 21st century In the UK the public hospitals run a CEO and not a CMD model. The CEO is alsmost never a doctor and is more likely to be a Nurse. 1 Like |

Fellow Nigerians, I have been reading your posts/comments since this strike commenced. I strongly believe NMA needs to search their mind well and breed new generation of doctors. The breed/generation that promote justice, that cherish equity and loves fairness. Or else, wholistic and qualitative health care will persistently be a mirage to Nigerians. No society/sector where OPPRESSION AND SUPPRESSION prevail experience good growth and development. Nigeria health sector is one. You may which to know / confirm these facts: Are you aware that a Cleaner who makes the clinic comfortable for the medical doctors to work earn between than N 19,000-24,000 a month? Are you saying a doctor can earn 30-50 times the salary of a cleaners/lower cadre health workers and 6-12 times the salary of other health professionals? where in the good world do you see that? Further Increasing inequality gap would not do Nigeria society any good! Medical doctors got salary increase in 2014 and another one recently to be effective from Jan 2018, skipped almost 2 times; Infact NMA members have benefited from pay rise about 3 times in four years, with arrears paid. I WONDER WHY SOME PEOPLE ARE SUPPORTING ACT OF WICKEDNESS THAT HAS BEDEVILED ALMOST EVERY SEGMENTS OF THE NIGERIA SOCIETY? THIS IS EVIL THAT MUST BE CONDEMNED BY ALL. THIS IS PURELY MAN INHUMANITY TO MAN! The relativity we are talking about has always been taken care by the provisions from ''Establishment office'.-- Are you aware that a clinician health worker on the same grade level collect half and in some case less than half of the call duty of a medical doctor, on same level? Are you aware that other health workers- graduates have GL7-10 depending on profession, as their entry point into the public service while medical doctor has GL 12 and a medical specialist (consultant) has GL15 as their entry point. Do you know that there is an allowance which is called specialist allowance which only medical doctors collect? That allowance in itself is more than the salary of many health professionals. Do you also know that resident doctors in many of the developed nation collect lesser pay than senior health professionals? In addition, do you know that medical doctors and other health professionals in the same pay band earn the same salaries? Check out UK NHS pay band. Do you know that medical practitioners work in other sectors of Nigeria society and their consolidated basic pay with other professionals are the same? that ALLOWANCES, ENTRY POINTS INTO SERVICE Differentiate what each professional take home? Check it out with NNPC, CBN, IMMIGRATION etc. The same is obtainable in the salary scale being used at the MINISTRY OF HEALTH. How can two party signed an agreement that is binding on the third party without the knowledge and presence of the third party? How can such an agreement be enforced on the third party whose right to freedom, expression and collective bargaining is enshrined in the law of the land and best practices in the world? How can another employer in the same sector determine and fix the salary of another employer in the sector? who is the arbiter? They tell the public lies that JOHESU is asking for equal pay with medical doctors, that even cleaners want to be a consultant. How on earth could leaders be telling such lies in order to perpetuate evil plot? Prior to 2014, was the pay ever equal? NO! JOHESU was simply asking, 'increase my own too like my colleagues; we go to the same market and we work in the same sector''.--JUSTICE EQUITY FAIRNESS, simple! All these are verifiable facts which you can confirm in case you and many others are ignorant about the reason for the strike and persistent problem in the Nigeria health sector. LET'S ALL REASON TOGETHER AND STOP THE PLAN TO KILL OTHER PROFESSIONS IN THE HEALTH SECTOR IN NIGERIA; THIS PLAN CAN ONLY INCREASE THE WOES OF THE NATION--Poorer quality in term of care, increase desertion of other health profession aside Medicine, increase unemployment, increase hatred and animosity, increase insecurity within and outside the system, a poorer nation etc HEALTH SYSTEM IN NIGERIA CAN ONLY THRIVE AND POSITIVELY AFFECT THE LIVES OF NIGERIAN AND NIGERIA ECONOMY WHEN JUSTICE, EQUITY AND FAIRNESS ARE ALLOWED TO REIGN SUPREME IN OUR DECISION MAKING PROCESSES. GOD BLESS EVERYONE SUPPORTING JUSTICE, EQUITY AND FAIRNESS TO ALL! 8 Likes 4 Shares |

MrBigiman: your post started well by reflecting the natural law that compensation shold be proportanl to accountability. He who makes decisions and is accountable for the impact of the decision should earn more than he who executes. Thats why managers earn more. However, the end of your post took the typical cocky and insulting approach. you call your colleagues "thrashy", insinuate that they were not intelligent enough to go to study medicine (or go to university at all). |

How many so called Consultant Gynaecologists in Nigeria have ever seen a colposcope? In the UK there are over 200 trained colposcopy nurses. MBBS is not a DNA you have to update and keep learning . Many doctors like to pretend that somehow acquiring an MBBS transforms an indivdual. The reality is what occurs in Nigerian medicine is just a notch above witchcraft. Nigerian doctors need to learn humility and team working. The fundamental problem most Nigerians and Nigerians doctors too have s they do not accept their limits and would never say I don't know but like to pretend they know everything. How many doctors know anything about sport injuries and their management especially where the management involves manipulation and physical modalities? As far as pay is concerned I think doctors should get paid more if they take more responsibility however if the market s accepting for other people to have oerall charge of specific clinical scenarios then so be it and in such cases the relevant clinician, whether they are a nurse or physiotherapist should be paid a refleection of what income they generate. 1 Like |

So, if daddy eats two pieces of beef, he must have same. A union is free to ask for increment in salaries, but you can't say the FG must pay you the same way others are being paid. You are right! But please be rational in your submissions. Firstly, nobody forced anybody to read medicine. So do not use the alleged difficult nature of the course as reason to cheat others. Every course is difficult too. Now there is a difference between managing a hospital and heading a medical team. By requirements, clinically, the doctors lead the team. Nobody is disputing that. Where the problem lies is in this illustration below. The Medical team can be compared to a football team, where there is a manager(coach), Captain of the team and the other players. In the health system, there are administrators(Managers) who run the affairs of the hospital, the doctors are the captain of the clinical team, with patient wellness as the goal of the team and the other members of the health team play essential roles. Every team member is as important as the captain(Doctor). The problem with the Nigerian health system is that the doctor is both the manager and Captain. What will happen in a team when the captain begins to tell the manager who should play and who should not. Calamity is what surely will happen. Now listen, Every profession in the medical sector have fellowship programs and postgraduate programs that would also require them to pass through and make a decent grade before being promoted and all what not as is seen with the doctors but they the doctors keep stifling it. the difference in years of study between the physician other medical professionals is just 1 year. Every body's role in the health sector is very important. in advanced world, specialty is the way forward but here in Nigeria only the doctors want to specialize, they are the only ones fit for free residence program. Liberate other professionals, stop stifling them. They are only destroying the health system but also killing the innocent masses. It is greed for you to want a fresh doctor graduate to earn more than another health professional with 20 years experience. Do you know that the residence program restricted to doctors enables them to grow financially as they climb the grading ladder through the residence program and become a consultant earning millions whereas other health professionals do not have such. The fact that doctors are the Public Relation Officers of the health team, interacting and conveying the teams message does not mean they are more important. We all would not have to leave our duty post to see a patient. The duty was assigned for smooth operation of the team not for lack of competency of the others. Let doctors concentrate in leading the health team and achieving patient wellness rather than intruding in every nook and crannies of the hospital, wanting to head even the security post. dechriscool: 3 Likes |

Stephen Hawkins died and the whole world shook when last did any doctor die and the whole world mourned? The solar system does not revolve around doctors, wake up and smell the coffee. Your attitude is rotten and feeling that everyone is inferior to you cos you are a doctor means your IQ is very low and you will end up slaving away for nothing. Without other supporting disciplines the doctor is nothing but a blunt are that can't do jacksquat. Get off your high horse and be humble, how many discoveries do doctors Make? This is to show how wicked we Nigerians can be, who are they to dictate to what government should do? If the body concern should yield to their evil manipulations, then, they are fools. Come to think of it, i have witnessed a case were a nurse and pharmacist on different occasions corrected doctors prescription before she can attend to the sick person. What makes them believe they are better than others, everybody contributes his own quota? Imagine, while doctors in Canada are protesting that their pay is too much as against other medical personnel and fighting for better pay for none doctors in medical fields. This is telling us how wicked our doctors can be, while they are thinking of humiliating the nurses and others, they are either miss prescribing, forget forceps in patient after operation and hide evils done to patient and leave them to either die or suffer for life. The other medical personnel should go on strike if government should act on their evil demand. Fools, selfish, wickedness and heartless group of people. 3 Likes 1 Share |
