The Kano State Government is to spend N345m on feeding the less priviledged during the Ramadan season.

The state Commissioner of Information, Youth and Culture, who is also the state chairman Ramadan feeding monitoring committee Malam Muhammad Garba disclosed this while flagging off this year’s Ramadan feeding programme at the premises of Kano printing press.

The commissioner disclosed that the administration sustained the annual feeding programme in order to alleviate the suffering of the less privileged in the state.

He said the committee would monitor the preparation and distribution of the meals to ensure the success of the feeding programme.

Malam Garba warned that the state would not hesitate to cancel the contract of any cook or distributor found to be sabotaging the programme.

The commissioner appealed to the wealthy people in the state to complement government’s effort by contributing their own quota to ensure the success of the programme.

Food items distributed for the first 10 days for 130 centres include 3000 bags of rice, 1170 bags of millet, 780 bags of flour, 1170 bags of sugar, 1950 cartons of macaroni, 2340 Jerry cans of groundnutoil, 780 Jerry cans of palm oil, 390 bags of dates among others.

Each centre will be receiving N10,000 daily for the purchase of cooking ingredients for the whole month of Ramadan.

In-as-much as I'm not against feeding the less privileged, but why would a govt spend such money on feeding people for fasting?? Just 30days? Is fasting not a personal relationship with God, why would the govt interfere with religion?? If u want to alleviate poverty, why not empower them n not just feed them for 30days pere?

Mynd44 and lalasticlala...... what do u think about this?

Nice undecided

At the end of the day only like 20 million or less will be spent on the planned feeding. The rest will enter different bank accounts.

Shithole country!!

Gaskiya especially up north that religion is taken to public sphere! If you enact religious laws then stuff like feeding people during fasting by the state is normal!

It's high time Religion is shifted from politics. A Governor will be spending a whopping 345 Million on Religious activities.

Ok I get, Maybe being Religious may appease God for the atrocities committed in Nigeria.

It has ravaged her citizens in the North, swindled her resources while trying to fight Insurgency.

Above all, religion is putting this nation at a cul de sac point.

And after all the fasting the north remains the most poverty stricken and deadliest region. I can't but imagine the level of development the south could have attained if not because of these religious parasites

Nobody should come and say religion is this or that. Pls be specific and point at Islam.

Islam seems to be a state funded religion, something Christianity isn't entitled to even in the south. Their govt up there build the mosques, Quranic schools, fund the pilgrimage and even pay the sultan. Christianity on the other hand is privately funded by interested participants...

You should have seen the pattern of governance in Nigeria earlier.
The 5,000 stipend Buhari is sharing even fits the profile of an almajiri bribery scheme. Which serious human will go register for a 5k that's not regular if not mostly almajiris.
These people are overall burden to others. Economically, Socially, Spiritually and even Physically they are burden to the society.

Let's also remember to spend the development of these people after the fasting because that is one of their prayer point.

I'm not really into kitchen budgets and stuff like that, but it's obvious 345milla is too much just for 30 days na. Ahn ahn. Haba.

The first thing is Muslims don't understand the concept of fasting. It's not enough to load yourself with food morning and night. Then the essence is lost. You can't eat to stupor morning and night and tell me you're fasting during the day. Nay. Now they are spending almost half a billion on feeding folks.

Do they have access to clean drinkable water? Or shelter? How about roads? Schools? Health care facilities? But 345mill on feeding people like it's their last meal on earth? But I'm not surprised. The Northerners are uneducated so they won't notice the imbalance in this.

This is how quotasystem works. Imagine!!

They are a totally unproductive bunch of parasites.
All they know is to marry children and make babies then abandon them

Born throway as MamaPeace rightly called them

The truth is they are a total liability to the south and we will not be together in 50 years time
