Don't you feel rushed whenever watching a movie? Because of the time constraint involved, movie characters goes through a comically rushed development sequence that serves to not only alienate the audience, but make the plot feel kind of half-assed. By contrast, longer plots in tv shows leave ample room for characters to maneuver at a more steady pace, hereby, creating a feeling of intimacy with their audience. Meaning, the viewers can become far more invested in tv show characters than movie characters.

Character development in movies are not rushed, it only leaves one to decipher the character's arc.

It is. When something is 2hrs+, character development don't have the luxury to drag. A talented writer working with a talented actor can get the most out of a character, but it's incomparable to a tv show variance.

Yes i know, but tv shows seems to drag on so as to keep it running, so they start adding unnecessary scenes and storylines.

Which makes one feel disconnected from it.

Okay I'm officially triggered.angry
I'm sowee... embarassed embarassed cry

At the end of the day, it boils down to the kind of auditory or visual dessert that would help you unwind. Some prefer to curl up with a good novel, some listen to music, some prefer to unwind with video games, some prefer to relax with a good tv series, some go straight to bed, and some watch movies. It has nothing to do with being more or less of a workaholic.

I used to watch movies a lot, in fact, there was a time I was a mainstay in this particular thread, that was 3 years ago. Then I got bored. Why? Movies just don't hold your attention for long. You mostly forget about it after the final credits. It's so generic - the characters are always 2 dimensioned, good vs evil. You rarely learn anything educational from it, and it's almost always predictable. TV shows fulfill all this shortcomings, and that's why I can never really relax again with a copy of a good movie. I dabble occasionally, but only to satisfy a curiosity, that's it.

Bottom line: Go with what you prefer, just don't go around thinking that because movies rock your boat, you're automatically busier than us folks that frequents the series thread. If I were to apply your reasoning but from my pov, I would say movie watchers have short attention span. But that would be unkind for the simple fact that it just isn't true, not unlike your bold claim.
Haaaa! Your English is plenty shocked

While you're certainly right to some degree, you generalized. Lemme show you how.

Tv shows come in many forms: Dramas, reality tv shows, sitcoms, soaps, miniseries, and documentaries. Now, dramas can be classified into 2: Serial and procedural. In serial, every episode is linked to each other, held together by a common plot, whilst in procedural, each episode has it's own plot and not always linked.

Now in my experience, serial drama tend to have shorter seasons, one or two writers, which helps to facilitate consistency and fluidity between episodes, effectively eliminating filler episodes, protracted and convoluted plotlines. Quality content is hence achieved. Serial dramas are monopolized by premium cable giants like HBO, Showtime, FX and lately, streaming mediums like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime.

Procedurals have longer seasons, multiple writers, which can lead to inconsistencies between episodes, protracted, fillers and convoluted plots. NBC, CW, FOX, ABC and CBS (the big networks) are the chief proponent of this quantity over quality mode of tv entertainment.

To address the emboldened, when you talked about that, you were only talking about the big Network tv shows, not the premium cable variety. The later is quality over quantity whilst the former is quantity over quality. When I said tv shows have superior character development over movies, I was using cable's version of drama as my model of excellence.

To conclude, you shouldn't generalize on certain things, because there are a lot of moving parts going behind the scene you may not be aware of.

I think it came out the wrong way. What I meant was there are some jobs that give one free time, like civil service, while there are time consuming jobs that leave people with little or no time for themselves. I didn't make the statement to disparage anyone cry

I still maintain my stance that most tv shows either serial or procedural, they all fill their shows with unnecessary scenes to waste time to prolong the series.

Nigeria are now becoming knowledgeable, before we all take in these shows hook line and sinker.

But if you check the series thread, you will read people saying, this or that should have ended because they feel the show have climax.

OR people saying they have stopped watching so and so shows because they are starting to decline in their thrills.

It's worth it. At least even if you get disappointed, you'll give it a 6/10 which is still above average. I love the movie and its gore filled scenes. You'll enjoy it.

- Death Note - 6.5
- Radius - 8
- 12 Strong - 6
- Game Night - 7.5
- Black Swan - 8.5
- Enemy - 7
- Revenge - 6.5
- The Endless - 7

Your ratings for "Ready Player One" and "12Steong not fair, IMO, it should be 8.5 and 8 respectively.

I feel like you're not getting the point I'm trying to make...

Have you watched a typical British tv series? Each season has a maximum of 8 episodes, minimum of 2 to 3. Then, the seasons rarely goes beyond the 4th season. Do you know why they keep it short and sweet? They do this to keep the story freshed out, avoid repeatitions and have fresh content to work with. Peaky Blinders, Sherlock, Line of Duty, Broadchurch and Happy Valley are the typical examples of these. I haven't seen anyone complaining about getting bored watching any of them. Believe me, when you sit down and watch these shows, you'll be officially team tv series. Your life will never be the same again.

You should also watch The Sopranos (HBO), Sons of Anarchy (FX), Boardwalk Empire (HBO), Breaking Bad (AMC) and The Wire (HBO). These American productions are the best advert for premium serial drama. The best of the best. Watch these shows then come back and let's talk. Character developments are phenomenal in each that you will never look at Movies the same. In fact, movies in general will look mediocre in comparison.

Then, procedurals... One of the shortcomings of procedurals is that their seasons are way too long for comfort, and, they can go for years. Naturally, when they go for unreasonable amount of time (rehashing old plots), some folks might get tired of watching them (Supernatural and Grey's Anatomy are the perfect examples of procedural that have overstayed their welcome) and move on to fresher shows. That said, tv shows even at their sh**tiest are still better than even the best movies when it comes to character development and continuity, although, I gotta give Momento props for how it somehow maximized the titular character's steady progression even with it's limited time. Christopher Nolan is a genius.

12 Strong is generic. I have already seen it before but with a different title and different actors. it's either the 6 or lower. I settled for 6 because I felt like it wouldn't be fair to give a movie with such high production value a low rating.

Ready Player One is okay at the 7 I gave it. It's very entertaining but nothing spectacular.
