he probably had medical insurance, maybe the hospital returned the money to the FG with a note saying his medical insurance was enough to cover the bill....

All the same the bishop/cleric might just be ignorant, FG don't release money at the click of a finger...processes are involved

I don't even know why the govt paid, When he was in power he could have used his good office to build such hospital but NOP, now he was flown abroad. This should be a lesson to those in power, you might need help one day!

It's clear that the Bishop and family is criminal. 200000 pounds, please you people should fear God and since family is able to pay the bill no need for refund.
SMH! The money is already signed off. It means it is not going back to government coffers but into someone else the money is not meant for.
It is the entitlement of Ekwueme as an ex elder state man.
What if the family borrowed money to pay with the hope to pay back when government refunds them?

heart problem around late January, 2017 before going for
NYSC service in Nasarawa state .
It was during my service I started having more difficulties in
breathing, sleeping, walking and on. So I went to the federal
Medical Center keffi in Nasarawa , there I was transferred to
University of Abuja teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada and I was
diagnosed with ASD (Atrial septum defects) simply meaning
am having HOLE in my heart and my health was deteriorating.
I was told surgery is the best possible way to correct it by the
doctor, then they transferred me to University of Nigeria
teaching hospital, Enugu(UNTH) and the doctors came with
the same conclusion after accessing me for one month plus
and it was concluded I will need to undergo open heart
surgery.
Which will cost me #1.5 million. My brothers and sister,
friends and family I need your support financial as I haven't
even gotten anything to start with. Please help me
The surgery is scheduled for this month please support me.

If £200k was spent on late Ekwume for less than two weeks medical treatment, I wonder how much Nigeria has spent on Buhari on his more than half a year medical tourism undecided

The money must have been returned and if so, knowing president Buhari for who he is, he must have instructed that the money shouldn't be given to Ekwueme's family.

People don't know the reason Ministers appear to be incompetent; the president wants to know how every kobo is spent in all the ministries hence the slow pace of governance.

Is it because of this case, corruption has automatically increased? Haba ....if there's a refund to be made, necessary documentations would be required. before the money is refunded. Government refunds are not like mom and pop store refunds undecided

By now the family should be showing us letters of request for refunds and not the bishop shouting upandan.

Nigerian elite and their corrupt tendencies.

Where is Beatrice Ekwueme, the wife of the late Vice President of Nigeria?

She is in a position to clear the air in this matter.

I am not here saying the Ekwueme family maynot be financially capable, but I doubt they could have been able to afford £200,000 (~N90m) on their own.
Despite all the public show, when it comes to paying medical expenses from their pockets, especially when it runs to millions,Nigerians, even those assumed affluent, except government functionaries, because they have access to easy money, find it difficult.
bro the family can afford it even more, apart fröm the family this Man ekwueme had a lot of multinationals that were ready to support him as a result of his past support to mankind in the past.that Man was a legend most of the people he trained i mean their villa fröm grass to grace when it came to academical pursuit today are millionaires some are already power

I understand your doubts absolutely. The amount appears rather steep. I am aware that this amount could have been spent over a long period of time managing whatever ailment the old man had.

As regards the family 'affording' the amount I think you underestimate the deceased. Ekwueme made 'old' money if you know what I mean.
He was obviously a man inclined to modesty but this must never be interpreted as poverty or any semblance of it.
Alex Ekwueme was a man of indescribable means but approached life and living modestly. He made a quantum of money in the seventies and being the prudent person as was evident in his lifestyle he must have made very serious investments that will yield that kind of money even on a quarterly basis.

Unfortunately, contemporary society judges men by their public show of worth.

As a guiding principle, I am prefer to observe a man in the things he does unconsciously rather than the ones done for public benefit.

The FG released money to the Hospital, the hospital refunded the money after the man died. The money is currently domiciled in the Central Bank where it belongs, so where is the fraud? Or this stupid bishop thinks this is Jonathans regime where the money would have been shared between "friends and family". Someone should wake that fool up and tell him this is 2018 Nigeria! A new sheriff is in town!
What bullshit are you saying? Because the former VP Ekwueme died in the hospital, his hospital bill should not be paid? Nonsense.

I can remember vividly that the FG said it will pay the hospital bill as the late VP was entitled to such.

If the family has paid the bill before the FG, the family should be refunded accordingly, else the FG is a fraud.

The new sheriff in town should NOT give room for citizens to doubt his integrity and ability to control his lieutenants.

Where in the world does open heart surgery cost just #1.5 million about $4000. Not disputing your story but that amount seems awfully small for such a procedure.

wft are you saying? The money was released from the FG for hospital expenses. If the hospital refunded the money to the FG, the money should be domiciled in the Central Bank where it currently is! So what on earth is the issue here? If the family wants to be reimbursed for the hospital expenses on account of the man being a former VP, then let them request for that separately. But for money that was released for something to not be used for that thing and be given to people to share, that is fraud!
A new sheriff is in town!

How did you know that the money is in the CBN and that the family has not requested for refund? Are you one of the dubious cabal destabilizing this great country?

Tell your sheriff to wake up. The sheriff is too dull to be a leader, wallahi!. Lieutenants should not be allowed to run the country aground, while your sheriff is only happy to be in Aso Rock.
