You cant say this with so much certainty. The South African team that embarrassed us in the same same stadium are not in the level of the Gameros,Torres, Gabi, Oblak,Corea, Thomas, Vitolo et all. Also, most of the players on parade for Athletico will walk into the Serbia team that ran rings round us in London.
Just say you were pleasantly surprised.

Oga, I say the Super Eagles will beat this Athletico team.

Na our small U23 boys play them like this e come be our Super Eagles.

You’re entitled to enjoy whatever you enjoy.

However, football is not just about tricks and flicks. It’s also a game of purpose, and okocha’s game was purposeless...which was reflected in the way his career turned out in the end

There are myriads of players with their medals hanging on their patio gathering dust who nobody remembers or care about. Without any medal Okocha is hailed as football legend, he is loved and remembered by millions and he would be remembered for long after he is gone not for some rotten metals but for the joy he brought to many. He has a cult following that would never die. His types are being breeded out by the sterile killjoy money football of Europe, so he would be remembered as the one of the last greats of a dying breed. When legends are called for matches, nobody cares he does not have a club medal, they hail him for being one of the best.
People should stop crying more than the bereaved, he has never regretted the way he played.

Thomas Partey.... He was so damn annoying today! He even wanted to take out the "blokus" of Eduok with that rough kick of the ball to his perineal area.... So rough and heartless today, he was....

Honestly!!! At times I felt like doing this to partey!!! Roasting his ass with lightening strikes...

oh lord grin grin

Yeah. Same player TheGoodJoe tagged the worst player in that final.

Gbam! Your memory is strong Dad... Looollll... I just didn't wanna mention it directly... I wanted Sir theGoodJoe, My very beautiful elder Friend to remember by himself...... I remember Osas Okoro played same game.

Yea bad pitches sending them to the doctor's office.
goldfish80:

The prolification of 3g pitches in Nigeria is killing Nigerian football. Almost all the Npfl players are half injured(whatever that means) according to what a coach told me.

I dont know if am the only person that is line with your thought, you just nailed it.

He played what the crowd wanted to see he fed them with their desires. But to be honest it was unnecessary (i dont want to be too harsh cos purposeless is extreme) because it didnt get him a big club didnt win much trophy and in no way helped his carrier grow.

People who have medals are a dime a dozen, every year hundreds of players win a medal all over Europe, majority of these medal winners will fade into obscurity after their career, nobody would create YouTube videos for them and nobody would be telling their kids about them after they are gone. I will tell my kids about JJ, in frankfurt kids still hear about Jj, in Bolton he is regarded as a legend and the best player in the last 20 yrs, in academies all over the world kids download his videos just to master one of his tricks. He has hung an indelible medal in our hearts, which surpasses any thing a lacklustre kick and follow medal-hanging player will ever earn.

More deserving? How so?

First of all, they have the desire and passion to play for the team much more than a guy you go cap in hand and roll the red carpet for. And for reference purposes, I will like that Enyimba left back given a chance to fight for the left back position while Aina moves over to the rich back to slug it out with Ebuehi, then Shehu takes over from Ogu. Aina has hoofed and puffed in the left back position so far in his super eagles career. While Idowu's body language smarks the ambiance of a guy who is not in this for the long run. I say this because he often looks isolated and cold socially among the group. Maybe, I'm thinking too much but this is just my observation so far.

When Siasia was preparing for last Olympics,we had an armada of talent...somewhere along the line...their clubs started closing the door on their participation..excuse?....underage game have no FIFA window...we cried...FIFA did not help matters...Conte dealth with Mikel Obi after this....pls do not hype this U23 yet....we have a long way to go....let us continue to track players that are eligible...praying to God for their AVAILABILITY whenever we need them...savvy?

Former African footballer of the year?
Second highest goal scorer in AFCON history.

Oga, make you fear God o

Yekini was a local champion

Yekini only won that award due to a format change that allowed there to be two awards that year

The AFOTY award he won wasnt the one awarded by France Football( The magazine which originally invented the award in the 70s, and also invented the Balon D'or)

Yekini won another AFOTY awarded by a magazine that doesnt even exist today.

I'm not trying to trivialise his achievements, i'm only setting some context.

Football as you know is a game of demand - if you are that good, the big clubs will come in for you. And Yekini never played at a big club...not even a mid level club.

I see no real difference between Yekini's career and someone like Emenalo's to be perfectly honest.

If ikouwem does well and we qualify for the U20 worldcup, I will advice that he gets invited to the Super Eagles bfor and after the World Cup proper. That boy's left foot as a full back is thrilling. The only thing the present super Eagles left backs have ahead of him is experience which I believe he would amass playing in the U20 wordcup.

I really think he should try go on some coaching refreshers course...or understudy some of these world renowed managers like pep at least for a season.... that would improve his managerial prowess more....should he eventually becomes super eagles coach... after rohr

Those guys played like a team, I was amazed bkus I was actually xpctn dem to play like a group. It was possible bkus of one thing, and that thing was the strong link btwn the midfield and attack. Who brought about that link? The talentless Kelechi Nwakali

you should stop hyping this guys just because of one game wonder....
please let them play more games...then you can tell how good they're...

I still remember how they got embarrassed during the Chan final.... the home lads of Morocco ran riot on them...
please don't pull down aina to promote a player who can't stand the heat

no naaa just to under study am... it may not be pep just any reasonable manager he thinks he can learn from...

I still remember prior the Brazil 2014 world cup...then Ghana coach understudied some notable coaches in Europe.... and it reflected in their play especially against Germany if not for the discord in that team...I expected them to do well.
