This is false..

Okocha is well known globally. I have asked by strangers in the US about Okocha, Kanu and even Amokachi.

I met an Argentine in Calgary. When I told him my country the next thing he said was "Ah Okocha! ".
No just mind that guy Jare.

Imagine calling Okocha and Yekini local champions. I can even bet he had not started watching football when Yekini played.

How can Kelechi Nwakali merit going to the world Cup?

I thought we have agreed that the best have been selected from the top leagues in Europe?

Did Nwakali play in one of the top leagues in Europe?

Didn't he flopped in the Eredivise in the first half of last season before he was demoted to second division?

Was he even spectacular in the second division of Eredivise where he played in the second half of the season?

Was he the best Nigerian player in his role in a top league in Europe last season?

How can you set a standard in the morning and break it at will in the evening?

Or is the standard applicable to some players and not to some players hence the bending of rules for some particular players?

How can we tell if our best player in Europe would have performed better than Nwakali tonight if invited?

Hahahahahaha! People can deceive themselves ooooooo. grin

Abeg go sleep.....
all you wrote there carries no sense...
thank rohr watched the young man play... and he knows what he wants....

who agreed with you that only the best players playing in big leagues should go to the world cup?

That’s just in ur head — preconceived. We’ve had foreign borns who have given their all even till this day. We’ve also had home grown that have been less committed in the past and even now.

First of all, they have the desire and passion to play for the team much more than a guy you go cap in hand and roll the red carpet for. And for reference purposes, I will like that Enyimba left back given a chance to fight for the left back position while Aina moves over to the rich back to slug it out with Ebuehi, then Shehu takes over from Ogu. Aina has hoofed and puffed in the left back position so far in his super eagles career. While Idowu's body language smarks the ambiance of a guy who is not in this for the long run. I say this because he often looks isolated and cold socially among the group. Maybe, I'm thinking too much but this is just my observation so far.

You are dodging my question.
And you don't know the matter at hand. Someone is saying he is not a legend and is just unnecessarily being hyped because he didn't have a medal. It's not a case of comparing one player against the other. There are multiple medal winning players all over the world that no one remembers 5 yrs after they retired but Jay Jay has left a lasting legacy for the same flicks and tricks he is criticised for. You can count the number of people that were able to do the things he did on your hands but medal winners are everywhere. This guy created dribbles for Pete's sake. He created them, successfully used and people will keep talking about it. Let the medal holders keep kissing their medals, they will only get a handshake from me, but Jay Jay will get a hug and be invited to dinner.

There are certain things that guarantee immortality in the game - Trophies, and individual honours.

You're right that as we grow older, the memories fade. The records however dont.

100 years from now, a kid using the google equivalent of that era could be looking through a list of EPL winners and find Yaya Toure. Or perhaps via a list of past APOTY winners. Maybe UCL past winners.

To find jayjay, the same kid will need to have either arcane knowlegde, or may have to rely on blind luck to stumble accross his clips on that era's equivalent of youtube. Career wise, there are simply no trophies or awards alluding to the great talent he posessed.

This is a man who could have had it all...but didn't due to a nonchalant attitude to tactical football.

I'm not mad at that...just calling it as i see it

Lololol, I have always known you are a jay Jay fan but who is hugely dissapointed in the fact that he could have achieved more. He played with joy and he said he would rather not play than for him to take away who he is. He is who he is and he is so good they named him twice. In a hundred years, a kid scrolling through a list of EPL players would see thousands of names, they would all be foot notes in that list, for him to pay attention or give a second thought to yaya toure he must have been looking for him. There are other lists Jay Jay will appear in.

If you weren't Nigerian or aren't of a certain age bracket (25 and above) you probably wouldn't even have heard of him.

The club's he played for were entrant Frankfurt, fernabache, psg, Bolton and hull.

you'd need to have pretty niche football knowledge to know a player who played at these middling clubs in the 90s and mid naughties.

Is it Jay Jay Okocha you are belittling like this?
A player that made FIFA 100?
A player that had and still has a huge cult following him since he broke into the limelight..
If u ask non Nigerian football fans to mention 10 of their greatest dribblers of all time,Jay Jay's name will definitely be there .
That he didn't play for big clubs means nothing...

Jay Jay is a world football icon... o pari!

Ndidi's and Iheanacho's Leicester in the news

Leicester City ranked among Europe's most valuable clubs

The Foxes beat Napoli, AC Milan and Inter Milan on the table
By David Dubas-Fisher

Leicester City have been revealed as one of the most valuable football clubs in Europe.
The club has an enterprise value (EV) of €596m (£523m) according to the latest KPMG Football Clubs’ Valuation report.
An “enterprise value” is the amount it would take to buy the company.
The Foxes’ EV is the 15th highest in Europe, the seventh highest in England, and represents a 29% increase on last year in Euros and a 35% year-on-year increase in sterling.
Leicester actually find themselves above some of Europe’s biggest names. Napoli (€518m), AC Milan (€514m) and Inter Milan (€491m) are all lower down the list than Leicester.

Manchester United take the top spot with an EV of €3.26bn (£2.86bn) ahead of Spanish giants Real Madrid (€2.9bn/£2.56bn), Barcelona (€2.8bn/£2.44bn) and German side Bayern Munich (€2.6bn/£2.24bn).
Manchester City are Europe's fifth most valuable club with an EV of €2.16bn (£1.89bn).
They’re followed by Arsenal (€2.1bn/£1.84bn), Chelsea (€1.77bn/£1.55bn), Liverpool (€1.58bn/£1.39bn), Juventus (€1.3bn/£1.14bn) and Tottenham (€1.29bn/£1.13bn).
West Ham (€531m/£466m) and Everton (€512m/£449m) also make the list of the top 20 most valuable clubs coming 16th and 19th respectively.

Andrea Sartori, KPMG’s global head of sports and the report’s author, said: “Despite this year’s growth being lower than last year’s 14 percent growth, the football industry continues its rise, showing for the second successive season an EV increase (9%) for the top 32 clubs included in our ranking.
“Overall growth is driven by different factors, one of these being the increase of operating revenues of the top 32, at 8%.
“Eye-catching transfer deals and spiralling staff costs have not prevented such clubs from registering a striking upward trend, as the profits before taxes increased by some 17 times in comparison to the previous year.
“One of the reasons for this growth can be found in the significant influence exercised by English clubs, as well as the improved financial health of many mid-size clubs within the ranking, which also reflects compliance with the UEFA financial fair play regulations.”

The report is calculated using the latest available financial statements for each club. It therefore doesn’t include the business and sporting results achieved by each club in the 2017/18 season.

Clubs: EV (£bn)

Manchester United FC: 3.26
Real Madrid CF: 2.92
FC Barcelona: 2.78
FC Bayern München: 2.55
Manchester City FC: 2.16
Arsenal FC: 2.1
Chelsea FC: 1.77
Liverpool FC: 1.58
Juventus FC: 1.3
Tottenham Hotspur FC: 1.29
Paris Saint-Germain FC: 1
Borussia Dortmund: 1.06
Atlético de Madrid: 0.9
FC Schalke 04: 0.673
Leicester City FC : 0.596
West Ham United FC: 0.531
SSC Napoli: 0.518
AC Milan: 0.514
Everton FC: 0.512
Internazionale Milano: 0.491

Nwakali started well at vvv venlo, with only 9 games and 1 goal for a MD then the coach stopped playing now you are calling him flop.

He is still a young guy growing,i am not surprised you are quick to call him flop because he is not yoruba, everybody know you in this thread and most people are tired of your antics.

Are you not still the same person that once called for a seyi ojo to be invited just because he is from liverpool academy and he is yoruba,i am glad you are not the coach, your analysis are FAILURES,If you are a football coach you will not even make it in the Nigeria premier league, because of your antics,I know you are still crying like a sheep that kayode is not invited to the national team, what about your ajagun,OGA FORGIVENESS ABEG REST.

People who have medals are a dime a dozen, every year hundreds of players win a medal all over Europe, majority of these medal winners will fade into obscurity after their career, nobody would create YouTube videos for them and nobody would be telling their kids about them after they are gone. I will tell my kids about JJ, in frankfurt kids still hear about Jj, in Bolton he is regarded as a legend and the best player in the last 20 yrs, in academies all over the world kids download his videos just to master one of his tricks. He has hung an indelible medal in our hearts, which surpasses any thing a lacklustre kick and follow medal-hanging player will ever earn.

you said it all, yet again i wonder what people mean by his career was not great, how many Africa players go ahead to captain a team in premiership for more than 2 seasons. PSG and fenerbache are not small club in there respective league and jay jay was a key man in those clubs.

In the national team, the glorified and medal laden Kanu never scored a goal in nations cup but i remember how a midfielder Okocha took 2004 nations cup by storm, played his heart out, was the top scorer and best player in that tournerment.

Medals are nothing compare to the happiness and joy he gave us and his still giving us, Jay jay is a blessing

Yekini was a local champion

Yekini only won that award due to a format change that allowed there to be two awards that year

The AFOTY award he won wasnt the one awarded by France Football( The magazine which originally invented the award in the 70s, and also invented the Balon D'or)

Yekini won another AFOTY awarded by a magazine that doesnt even exist today.

I'm not trying to trivialise his achievements, i'm only setting some context.

Football as you know is a game of demand - if you are that good, the big clubs will come in for you. And Yekini never played at a big club...not even a mid level club.

I see no real difference between Yekini's career and someone like Emenalo's to be perfectly honest.
