If u are, rethink bro if u r not doing well as a geophysicst, there several numbers of people doing fantastically well and obviously not in oil and gas has u may think. Moreso havent u see medical doctors and other para medical option really searching for jobs and might even find one which won't stop their success in life. There is beauty and success in geosciences if it works for u.

Let me enlighten you a bit:
Here in Nigeria we have Pharmaceutical Industries that produces certain drugs which aren't quite much, it's not every drug that is being imported.

The reason why our industries are not as much and large as they should be is because the federal government is not helping matters, they have made importation of Raw materials needed for production very expensive by putting heavy tax and import duties whereas purchasing them abroad and bringing them here is less costly and more cheaper, and trust me no one will buy the costlier one because it was locally made

There is nothing like 2 years Masters in MLS ,you can only do a part of MLS like heamat,chem path,med micro e.t.c.which will still not make you function in the capacity of a MLSt.
You can open a Lab alright,but the operation and running of the Laboratory will be manned by a lisenced MLSt.

I'm not implying that it is too bad a course to study, but you just have to know that it is not a lucrative course as far as Nigeria is concerned. Nevertheless, if you really have interest in it, then you have got to have a passion for teaching and researches as well. After your first degree proceed immediately to MSc and PhD. Don't start wandering about in search of non-existing jobs. You can take teaching jobs in private schools and tutorial centers and also look out for scholarships to support yourself while studying for your postgraduates.

Don't listen to anybody that would start telling you that you can work in pharmaceutical companies (pharmacists will so use you eeh). Decent pharmaceutical jobs may be available, especially in quality control, but you will be required to have atleast a masters and the pay is usually not very fantastic. Besides, you'll have graduates of other sciences like chemistry, industrial chemistry, microbiology etc competing for that same position.
I had first hand experience of how things are in the labour market, so I'll not advise anybody to study biochemistry unless they have passion for the academia.

I wouldn't say your assertion is wrong except for the point where you limited Biochemists to academia. Biochemistry still offer employment in various Industries, most especially Medical Sales Representatives for Pharmaceutical Companies and Food Industries like Nestle. It's about getting skills other than that which Biochemistry (as a course) gave you in school. The essence of being a graduate is to be very analytical and Biochemists, by the virtue of their training and course content are very analytical. It all boils down to the individual. NB, I am a Biochemist, graduated 2014, served and completed 2016 and in my 3rd employment now, 2 are with multinational
