There is a 20% chance that we'll survive that group. We might be one of the first casualties in that group.

But if we do, then I'll be surprised. I'm been really sincere here. Our recent friendlies hasn't inspired much confidence in me. I mean, 3 games where we could hardly create chances. Yet, some peeps think we would somehow miraculously enter beast mode in the World cup, citing the 1998 team (who had obviously better individual talent).

In asmuch as I'm pained writing this, we should severely lower our expectations of this team so that our high hopes aren't dashed.

Same here.

As enthusiastic as I am about national team football, I'm finding it very difficult to raise my hope.

I keep seeing a repeat of 2002 - 1 point in 3 matches!

But I'm also hoping for some miracle.

The worldcup is not for development of players

Ronaldo de Lima, 1994 went to the World Cup as a future prospect.

yeah but our preparation and build up to this tournament is superior to 2002 own

Fair enough. That's the only difference.

Other than that, this team and 2002 team have many things in common - too many below average players.

I'm hoping for a different outcome from 2002 despite the stark similarities.

Raheem Sterling On Why The Clash With Super Eagles Won’t Be Friendly

Manchester City star, Raheem Sterling, has commented on the upcoming friendly between England and Nigeria at Wembley on June 2, 2018.

Sterling stated that the match won’t be friendly when the Three Lions face Gernot Rohr’s men this Saturday.

According to him, both sides are formidable opponents and highly physical.

”I probably got more ticket requests than I have had in any game at Wembley, that’s for sure,” Sterling told Extratimesoccerlive

”I think we got a great physical team but I know for the fact that the Nigerian team will be as physical as us and technical as us but it’s going to be a game of the day.

”It is a friendly but I don’t think it would be a friendly game because both teams are really going to get prepared and be ready.”

England coach, Gareth Southgate and Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr are using the friendly game to prepare their teams for next month’s World Cup in Russia.

oga calm down with those analysis....been a footballer in Nigerian has alot of limitation, the likes of Aina will never make it to NPL level in Nigeria. forget sentiment there is nothing special about him.

give osas same treatment and believe and he will shine like a million star, naso una talk say lokosa na another uzoenyi and was not good enough but he disappointed you all.

at this stage Aina going to worldcup will be sentiment and not footballing reason

Aina is a Chelsea player. It is not the question of talent but readiness.

Where is Uzoenyi today?

Was he not the one Keshi benched for an informed Sone Aluko for?

Your analyses is fake.

NIGERIA HANDS CARL IKEME HONORARY WORLD CUP SPOT

THE NIGERIAN FOOTBALL FEDERATION HAS HANDED GOALKEEPER CARL IKEME AN HONORARY SPOT AT THE 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP IN RUSSIA.

The Nigerian Football Federation has handed goalkeeper Carl Ikeme an honorary spot at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The Super Eagles and Wolverhampton Wanderers keeper is on the sidelines as he fights cancer and has not played this season due to treatment.
Ikeme helped Gernot Rohr’s men qualify for Russia and is now their 24th man ahead of the highly anticipated global showpiece.
The Super Eagles, who face England in a Wembley friendly on Saturday, have carried on a tradition of selecting a player for a 24th squad place.
"Until the last moment, there is a possibility of bringing in these players,” said Rohr.
“Carl Ikeme will be our 24th player to the World Cup.”
Meanwhile, the 31-year-old net minder has been kept in prayers by Wolves’ supporters as they managed to clinch promotion to the English Premier League after winning the English Championship title.
The West Africans will face Croatia on June 16 in their opening Group D match. Their second one is against Iceland on June 22 and they will wrap up against Argentina four days later.

The funny thing is Egbon.... You don't know how to handle the truth.... And it is really not your style to state the truth as it is. If you don't twist things a bit... You are not done with your presentation.

Okay... I just walked in now and I am saying this... I must prove that what I say is true right? About you twisting the truth? Okay... We will have case study one.

Meanwhile... As for the stats you and Realpoacher reeled out... Hahahahahahahahaha... I was just laughing when I saw both yours and his. You both are leaving out some very deep details which Soccer way or Wikipedia won't show us all. Thank goodness for Whoscored and Transfermrkt cheesy most especially transfermrkt.

And uhmmm... So I've just read the reply you gave my post and I must sincerely say that you didn't make a lot of sense as regards the impact factor. You were just huffing and puffing Egbon. I will respond to it as time goes when I am fully back but not by quoting that long post of yours which saw you squeezing out things to say so as to sound valid.. But Right now... This is just a little check-in. And I mentioned Onuachu to show you that your argument with Kayode is invalid. Onuachu did better than Kayode this past season yet is in Denmark, a league less than Ukraine. But as for Kayode... He didn't even do better than Ighalo, Simy, and Nacho. And worse he is in a league lower than they all. So what is the fuss with Kayode tori olorun? Your noise on this kayode issue is deafening and with facts shall it be silenced.

First I shall show your first lie... Debunk it if you can.... wink

Check my next post.

I have to make it clear that Rohr's acknowledgement has vindicated me. That's all.

Why are dey trying hard to hid that fact and go ahead to accuse me of the same allegation that I have grounds to base it?

FIFA should allow Nigeria to go with 30 players. Nigeria should be allowed to field 12 men against Croatia and Argentina but that wont stop the massacre that will happen.

Can Mikel and any of those wack midfielders match Modric and Rakitic in the midfield? Can your full backs stop Perisic? Can your central defenders stop Manzukic?

Nigeria dont know what awaits them in Russia. You people have been mouthing off against England. On 2nd of june, you arrogant ignoramuses will be shut up.

Unfortunately, this may be our toughest group ever.

I'm really worried about our ability to survive that group.
And it could also be one of our strongest squads ever. (based on merit, talent, ambition, and determination)
And the 'toughness' of the group could even eventually turn out to be only on paper if Rohr leads his pack to Russia with the right tactics and his thinking cap firmly placed in his bag of ideas.

If teams like Peru, Iceland can hand Croatia defeat. If Mexico, though not a small team could pummel Iceland 3-0, Then I'm confident.

It should be easy for anyone to observe that Whenever we have Mikel, Moses, Ndidi, Ighalo, and probably our CB duos, Troost and Balogun, other highly telnted alternates on the bench, we rarely struggle. In fact, we generate goals.

If we could squeeze defeat down the throats if Poland in their own homeland, and the highly rated Albiceleste (Argentina), then I'm confident.

Youre guilty of what you're preaching. You are trying to belittle Echiejile to hype Aina.

Funny enough, no one has been able to say how many goals came through the LB all the while Echiejile mounted that position during qualifiers.

Even agaunst9 Congo, he didn't do bad either. As for the tackle, hows that a big deal when we all saw onazi doing same in the middle?

My point? The coaching crew should be allowed to do their job, whoever they pick, its their responsibility.
Kog45:
Pls i want to ask you a question, did Aina forced himself on Nigeria cos you are comparing what is not comparable,Aina and Utin Udo.

Echiejile making the team would just be based on his experience and being part of the team, noting more.

And what a pity Echiejile is now slugging it out with Aina not even Idowu, just to tell you Echiejile is not in good form and not Echiejile of 2010-2014.

I watched Congo match all over again,if not for the fake penalty committed by Aina,he was better than Echiejile in that match.

Pls tell me simple thing Echiejile did in that match.

Rohr is the coach and if he believe Echiejile is better, good. All we need is better performance from our boys irrespective of who make the team.

But trying to rubbish one player to promote another is what i know as taunting analysis.

If you don't rate Aina simple,no offence cos as am typing this I don't rate Awaziem but i will not come here and say Eze is better than him cos i don't rate him.

If Aina was as bad as Osas. I will be buying his ticket myself back to England.

Scale is an important word. Both have defensive frailties but on different scales. Osas has shown me one of the worst performances, i have ever seen from a full back in my life. Aina has not reached that level inspite of his obvious weaknesses.

Youre being sensational. Osas was never as bad as youre projecting him, not in a million years. I wacthed all the Chan games and tactically, that team relied heavily o. The influence of Osas on the right. The team got so fat thanks ti his assists against Sudan and Libya and multiple attacks were launched from his part of the pitch.

Can you list Aina's best qualities as a full back? Please, dont tell me he's good going forward, I saw his struggle to do basic things like trapping and simple ball control against Algeria and Congo.
In Blida, attacks came to a halt whenever his part of the pitch was used to build momentum. I can't remember how many times he was full of apologies to his teammates for his failure to control the ball properly. The less said about Congo, the better.
Ola might make the team on sentiments but on merit, he should be dropped.

World Cup: Rohr drops Lokosa, Agbo; Simy makes new 24-man list

Super Eagles’ Head Coach, Gernot Rohr has dropped the quartet of goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye, defender Stephen Eze, midfielder Uche Agbo, as well as NPFL hotshot Junior Lokosa, as he trimmed his list to 24 players, AOIFootball.com can authoritatively report.

The Franco-German had earlier revealed that five players would be dropped from the cut but injury to winger Moses Simon opened up for probably one new inclusion, with Rohr opting for FC Crotone of Italy striker Simeon Nwankwo as the striker battles it out for the final 23-man squad that will fly to Russia in the coming days.

Despite being backed by Rohr in his pre-match conference prior to the DR Congo clash last Friday, Standard Liege midfielder Uche Agbo was dropped after not featuring in any of the qualifiers whilst NPFL goal banger Lokosa also misses out despite impressing in the game against Congo.

The squad, comprising 3 goalkeepers, 9 defenders, 7 midfielders and 5 attackers, will join Chelsea star Victor Moses in the UK as they prepare for the friendly game against England on Saturday.

Full Squad:

Goalkeepers: Francis Uzoho, Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa.

Defenders: Abdullahi Shehu, Tyronne Ebuehi, William Troost-Ekong, Leon Balogun, Chidozie Awaziem, Kenneth Omeruo,  Bryan Idowu, Ola Aina, Elderson Echiejile.

Midfielders: Ogenyi Onazi, Mikel Agu, Wilfred Ndidi, Joel Obi, John Ogu, Oghenekharo Etebo, Mikel Obi.

Attackers: Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Ahmed Musa, Odion Ighalo and Simy Nwankwo.

Simon-Moses must do scan in London before any decision is taken on him.

Lokosa was just to cover face. He was never in Rohr's plan.

Ezenwa must be the first choice goalkeeper. That's a good one.
