Yes you can. Though to go real deep into java requires work you can start with it. I did and I am not regretting it. Thanks.

Get the book "Java How To Program 9edition" and try getting videos from YouTube. If I may ask what is your target for learning programming?

Good. Java can feel the gap especially if java is part of your course schedule. Learn it.

Hard to put a value on that as I am still improving and learning new things. If you are lookin to get ready for university java challenge I did advice you to use the first 6 chapters of that book "Java How To Program"
it covers most of what the average university does in java.
4-5 weeks is a fair time to run through that thoroughly if you put in 2-3 hours daily.

Yes, It is on torrent if you know how to use torrent. I got the 7th edition in Yaba when I wanted to start learning. Most good bookstore have it. you can get 8 edition or 9th edition easily from bookstore.

My learning curve was very unorganised. I just embark on one some months back. Less than a year now. There are project ideas and as u said earlier, you have app ideas, you can attempt implementing them skeletally and see where u get stuck, that place becomes a pointer to what you need next.

I was told that with basic knowledge in java, i can only attempt "text-based programs" and that even professionals use it.

What do u mean by "text based programs" ?

If i may ask what kind of ideas are you trying to implements?
Just a vague description so people don't steal it.

text-based programs: like one that randomly generate quotes or a quiz app...

About the app; it's a quiz app too, but users will take interactive lessons first, then choosing the difficulty of the test and others, hope i've not said too much?
