Nigeria Suffers 20 Percent Decline In Cocoa Production

Nigeria’s cocoa grinding has slumped to less than 20 percent of the installed capacity of processors.

Onsite investigations revealed that despite the Federal Government’s export drive initiative, a 50 billion naira debt burden has crippled activities in the sub-sector.

The industry which once thrived with eight cocoa processing factories with a combined installed capacity of 150,000 metric tons, now has only five factories functional with a combined utilization capacity of less than 30,000 metric tons per annum.

Processors say some of the challenges facing the industry include high operating cost coupled with higher import duty in European markets and a high cost of cocoa beans which makes it difficult for the processing factories to tap export demand for butter, cake, and powder.

I read a news last night about senior NYSC member who was murdered by cops because she drove past their check point around 3 am without stopping. A bullet hit her midriff. She bled to death at Garki Hospital in Abuja because the hospital refused to treat her without a poice report (past 3 am in the morning), with the same police officers demanding N50,000 (past 3 am in the morning) for the police report.

This is e apologizing for ever saying Nigeria is a better country than Kenya. Honestly I cried a bit last night and this morning, I feel so so so so so so so so sad. This lady did absolutely nothing wrong but she died anyway. I blame the hospital, the cops and every gaddman person in that GOD forsaken country!

Obaaderemi please let us face facts, Nigeria is not going anywhere, it'll take another civil war to even get to the level where Kenya is today. I can't remember the last time Kenyan cops shot at civilians for driving past their checkpoint. Nigeria is nation of f00ls, animals disguised as human beings, if Nigeria is such a wonderful place to be, why are our people leaving in droves?

Obaaderemi did you see the news of the lawyer who was assaulted by SARS officers called on him by his own boss (who also happens to be a lawyer). If a lawyer (one who is meant to defend people's rights), one with years of experience can use the police to illegally assault a former employee over unpaid stipends, what good could possibly come out of Nigeria?

l may hate Nigeria but if Nigerian banks are doing well for instance or at least way better than their Kenyan counterparts, l wouldn't come here to argue otherwise f simply because of sentiments.
True, everyone on both side of the fence is partial to an extent, but we must try to argue with less sentiments as much as we can.
Nigeria is a terrible place and l feel sad about this news, a terrible jungle is Nigeria but worse things have happened both in Nigeria, Kenya and all of Africa and the World.
Humanity has it's sick side, though the lawlessness in Nigeria is truly unfortunate.
Of a truth Nigeria has weaker institutions(probably much more than Kenya) and this aids Lawlessness.
lf the institutions were there, both the Doctors and the Police would know they can't go Scot free.

Kenya has never had a civil war.

Trust me, I have lived in Kenya for at least 10 years and I can say confidently that Nairobi is not nearly as bad as Lagos is.

That green passport itself is also a liability to carry around, you get to any country, they see a green passport and immigration and customs separates you from the line.
