Every time the word 'restructuring' is mentioned, a typical northerner groan with disdain, they don't even want to hear it, it's like an earthquake to them. If u calm them down n ask them d reason they hate to hear d word, u'll notice they dont understand what restructuring really mean.

Their leaders aren't excluded too, a debate on restructuring was conducted on channels tv last week and the northern guy said they don't like to hear it in d north cos it's like secession to them.

A senator from Zamfara opposed state police cos he said it's a strategy to restructure d country.

Why does the word 'restructuring' sounds alien to them, can't they see that this system isn't working?

it's all about perception, they have numerous resources and huge landmass for agricultural practices, when we were practicing regional govt, I don't recall any region stricken by poverty.

I don't understand their problem, maybe they just want to retain power by all means.

I tire, bros..... No tangible reasons for being against restructuring.

I guess their lowly developed people will be a burden to them if they don't receive federal allocation.

What exactly is their problem?

It is not just the north oh. . . even civil servants s are scared of restructuring. All who benefit from easy oil money are afraid of it. Nigeria is hooked on free money.

Back in the 1960s to 1980, I know that they relied heavily on agriculture as the main source of revenue. Times have changed. Yes the landmass is still there in the north, but nobody does largescale farming anymore. We consume mostly imported food nowadays. We now rely heavily on crude oil as our main source of GDP. IF RESTRUCTURING is permitted now, the north will suffer.

civil servants opinion is minuscule compared to states, it's their selfish interest that they're protecting.

I laughed when buhari said he'll fight corruption, I'm like, with this structure? grin

That word Restructure Sounds like Death to the North.
It exposes their Asss to the world.

The New World POVERTY Headquarters scares them cos they embrace Laziness, oppression and wickedness as a tool to foist themselves on Southern Resources.

The Northerners will never agree to have Nigeria restructured. How can they? That's like asking for snow to fall in the Sahara desert. The current system works for the core North, so why would they agree to change?

I dont see how Nigeria can ever be restructured

u see, even u didn't give a comprehensive reason for d rejection. U only made a point by saying 're current system works for d core north'. My guy, it's not working for them, if it was, d north should be the wealthiest, most sophisticated region in d country but what do they have??

The northern leaders aren't truthful to their citizens, they're just scared of losing political grip in d country.

At least, educated ones like emir sanusi and el-rufai aren't against it, even ur atiku isn't against it.

restructuring is better but if it can't be done, the country will disintegrate.

I honestly don't see Nigeria exist in d next 10-20years with this structure.

If Nigeria doesn't restructure, she'll disintegrate, no doubt.

There may be a few core Northerners who support restructuring such as Atiku, but that is not enough

A restructured Nigeria does not favour the core North for the following reasons

1) The current unitary structure is more in tandem with the feudal system of the North.

2) The economy of Nigeria is mainly in the south. The North has managed to remain relevant by having control political power. Restructuring will mean devolving power from the centre to the component units and this will render the North politically irrelevant.

3) All 3 Geopolitical zones in the south has Oil in commercial quantity, the North has none. Restructuring will mean an end to the free Oil money the core North has been enjoying since the end of the war. Anyone who thinks that the North will give up that Oil money in the name of restructuring needs to have their head examined.

4) One of the ways the North controls Nigeria is because Abuja is in the North. Restructuring will make Abuja weak.

The North will never agree to restructuring, they have everything to lose by it and nothing to gain

good, very nice disposition.

but don't u think restructuring has an overall advantage than disadvantages? At least, d disadvantages is only centered on politics n oil money, what if the oil dries off or becomes worthless nko?

Restructuring is the key to unlock Nigeria's potential. it will solve corruption issues we currently face and will make states independent. It will also expose lazy governors who will complain that their predecessors embezzled all the money in the purse .
It will end the era of tyranny and remove power from the centre. How will a governor be the chief security officer only on paper.
Nigerians, let's embrace this.. A new era will come soon... Team Atiku 2019.

Atiku support restructuring? Pease don't tell me you are this naive. Do you know Atiku has oil blocs? Do you think he will be willing to give them back? Why has not supported restructuring before last year? Don't you think there is a motive behind this? Besides, restructuring is ambiguous. It has different meaning to different people.

the south must finance the north - reason for amalgamation.
if you restructure, you restructure the old structure to create a new structure.
How do you get the new structure?
Re: Why Is The North Scared Of Restructuring? by izombie(m): 9:22am On Aug 02, 2019
The answer is simple......merit. The north can't compete with the south so anything that is gotten on merit will definitely go to the south. Restructuring will discard the quota system that the north enjoys.

yes. Restructuring has overall advantage for the south. Not the north. The north will be the first to ask for secession immediately the oil dries up. You think the north is fighting for one nigeria now because it is what is best for nigeria?, nope, it is what is best for the north now. They control nnpc, they own over 80% of oil blocs in nigeria. What do you think?

For a while, it will be tough for every region then things will pickup. The north really has a big advantage with land. Some countries richer than Nigeria don't even have oil. The northern leaders are just the elites who are not interested in fixing the future of their region. The enjoyment is just too much.
