Yes..... the Preparation was a top-notch. NFF did their best to ensure the Team is well prepared with no iota form of Distractions, I guess for the first time since I've been following the National Teams.

We've moved on already, but my Point exactly is; Rohr should never be the Coach to lead us to Qatar 2022 except he would go for further (advanced) Coaching Courses, learn under top Managers in the World for at least 2 Years.

However, in my Opinion, NFF should honorably discharge Rohr after the AFCON 2019, then hire a real World-Class Coach on a 3 Years Contract with an Option to extend based on his Performances, to lead us to Qatar 2022.

You think highly of the NFF, we were lucky to get a performing Gernot Rohr, if he goes we will get one of our recycled coaches like Oliseh or Siasia

When have we hired a world class coach? And you think it would happen in this corrupt administration with Amaju Pinnick no longer in charge?

Shirts re selling briskly, crowds pack sports bars to watch matches and football is front-page news. Whisper it quietly, but basketball-crazy Philippines has finally been afflicted by World Cup fever.

For decades, the nation of more than 100 million was on a very short list of global locations that had failed to fall for the beautiful game.

That is beginning to change as football's narrow, but passionate, Filipino following grows fuelled by success of the national team whose new coach is former England great Terry Butcher -- a World Cup semi-finalist with the Three Lions in 1990.

"Definitely, we do have... World Cup fever," television sportscaster Bob Guerrero told AFP outside a Manila bar where he was watching France knock Argentina out of the global tournament.

"We're hoping that it's going to be a snowball effect and football will really start to grow here in the Philippines," said Guerrero, who works for top TV network ABS-CBN who are airing World Cup matches live.

Grow it may, but at the moment there are only an estimated 1.5 million football-playing Filipinos compared to figures claiming that some 40 million regularly flock to the basketball courts that populate every barangay (borough) across the archipelago.

It's a love affair that goes back to the 1900s when basketball was introduced to the archipelago by the Americans. Rather than reject the pastime of their colonial masters, Filipinos made it their own.

Elegance and stray dogs

It became part of the curriculum in schools and since then Philippine squads have played respectably on an international level. Basketball's governing body FIBA has them ranked 30th out of 159 nations, just behind China.

But, until recently Philippine love and prowess in hoops was missing from their football team, a gap evident even in the nicknames of the respective squads.

The Philippines basketball team are dubbed the "Gilas", the local word for elegance, while the football team are called the "Azkals" which is a slang term for stray dogs.

"When I arrived, the football community was very small," said Azkals captain Phil Younghusband, who made his debut in 2009.

"You can probably count in the hundreds the people who were aware of football and playing football."

The former youth player with English Premier League club Chelsea is one of a wave of photogenic foreign-based players of part-Filipino parentage recruited by the Azkals.

In a few short years they have vaulted the team to qualification for the Asian Cup for the first time, and in May they hit their highest ever FIFA ranking of 111th in the world.

That success comes on the heels of the launching last year of the country's first pro-league, the Philippines Football League, which added to the momentum.

Experts say the Azkals' steady rise, which has given fans hope of international success, has been key to the game's growth spurt of popularity in recent years.

"We're small (people). Let's face it we can't be world champions in basketball," said Edwin Gastanes, general secretary of the Philippines Football Federation.

"Our physique, our skill, moves and agility are really very good for football. That's why we have a chance there," he added.

Global goal

The Azkals have never qualified for the World Cup, but Butcher last month made that his goal for the side after they make their Asian Cup debut in the UAE in January.

"There is a hype now," said Francis Castilla from sport marketing firm MMC Sportz . "Everybody wants to jump in on the (Azkals') achievement.

"It's the bandwagon. The problem will be how to sustain it."

Other similarly less football-minded nations have seen their love for the game grow via increased television coverage, which marketers say stimulates attendance at stadiums.

It was key in bringing cricket-mad India into the football fold, yet air time is still scarce for the game in the Philippines. Basketball and boxing dominate.

The next steps for Philippine football will be strongly influenced by the nation's youth -- and there are more and more enthralled by the beautiful game.

Kevin Raymond Sales, 15, has been in love with football for years and has been trying to stay up to watch late-night World Cup matches.

He's hooked on the dramatic personal stories of players who rose from poverty or teams from tiny nations taking out powerhouses 10 times their size.

"It's something inspirational and it's inspired me personally to carry on with football, to play the sport with all my heart," he said

Dear FIFA: There Is No Scientific Test to Prevent Age Fraud

You could be forgiven for missing that the qualifying matches for a big youth soccer event—the Africa Cup of Nations—are underway right now, what with the Olympics taking center stage all week. But then you might miss the latest “doping” scandal playing out in soccer headlines: Almost half of Nigeria’s U-17 (under age 17) team has been sidelined based on lab scans.

Yet the dismissal is not over a traditional malfeasance such as performance-enhancing chemicals or hormonal supplements. It is about age fraud. Clinical testing suggested that these players were actually older than 17.

As a result, 24 young male athletes from Nigeria were deemed ineligible to participate, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) told Scientific American. (Originally, 26 players were excluded but two players were reinstated after appeal.) The decision to bar these Nigerian players from the tournament was based on a procedure that FIFA, soccer’s international governing body, put in place in 2009. It urged youth players to submit to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of their wrists in an attempt to determine their age eligibility. (CAF, which is under the auspices of FIFA, requires all players to submit to the scans as part of the regulations for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.)
Admirably, the protocol is designed to prevent older, stronger players from entering youth tournaments in settings where birth certificates or other ways of verifying age may be absent. According to FIFA, wrist MRIs and the bone growth they show can indicate if a player is older than 17. Yet a deeper dive into the study behind this decision reveals that its foundation is shaky at best.

FIFA rolled out this protocol based on a study conducted by its Medical Assessment and Research Center and published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. For that work, researchers performed wrist MRIs (deemed more ethical than exposing the subjects to x-ray radiation) on about 500 young men between the ages of 14 and 19. The teens all hailed from Switzerland, Malaysia, Algeria or Argentina. The researchers then categorized each participant’s wrist bone development into one of six stages based on the fusion of his distal radius, a bone area near the wrist joint. Stage 6 represented complete fusion and stage 1 represented no fusion. Citing this work, FIFA says that if the MRI shows complete fusion of a player’s wrist, it is 99 percent certain that the player is over 17 (spoiler alert: that’s not really true).

Wrist bone development certainly does change during adolescence. Before puberty the human body cranks out cells that help produce new cartilage along the ends of bones. These areas of the bone, known as growth plates, are eventually converted into bone material, which helps the bones lengthen. Yet as teenagers, both males and females start producing more estrogen, which slows that cellular production process—and their growth plate cartilage subsequently gets thinner and thinner until some of the bones in that area fuse together, and the growth plates close and are replaced by solid bone. (That’s why wrist scans are sometimes used alongside those of the fingers, in tandem with other biological information, to estimate a growing child’s eventual height.) The exact timing of this fusion, however, varies a lot between individuals. For example, FIFA’s own researchers said in an analysis published earlier this year that using this same age cutoff for female athletes is extremely problematic because many girls already had complete fusion before age 17.

In FIFA’s citing of the foundational MRI study for boys, however, its major mistake lies in applying these population-level statistics to individual athletes. A closer examination of the full data shows that the actual wrist bone growth stages can occur at a wide range of ages. Among 16-year-olds, for example, roughly the same number of kids were at stages 1, 3, 4 and 5, representing a spectrum of growth at that age. “There is so much overlap that you may have a person who is 18 who could have only minimal fusion to complete fusion, and there are people who are already fused going from ages 20 to 16,” says Vicente Gilsanz, a professor of radiology and pediatrics at the University of Southern California. Although only one player in the 16-year age group was graded as completely fused (stage 6), the standard deviation in that grouping is also pretty telling.

The reason standard deviation is so illuminating comes down to basic statistics. The average age for complete fusion, according to the analysis, is 18.3 years. Yet there might be some variation in that fusion timing, and that possibility is represented by standard deviation calculated in the analysis—0.9 years. Anyone setting such important guidelines should typically include two standard deviations in either direction from the average age to capture most of that variation, says Frank Rauch, a professor of pediatrics who specializes in bone health at McGill University. (In a perfect bell curve one standard deviation will only capture about 68 percent of the values whereas two will include about 95 percent, and so on.) Here, two standard deviations from that average age of complete fusion would include ages 16 to 20. “Maybe people are not concerned about unfairly excluding kids from competition,” Rauch says, “but that’s the inevitable problem.” FIFA had not responded to a request for comment by publication time.

Please read this, MRI have been proven not to be as accurate as we were made to believe.

Meanwhile, subsequent work also throws more cold water on the science of these wrist scans: One study on 86 young male Ghanaian players concluded, “There was no significant correlation between the chronological age and the degree of fusion.” Another analysis that similarly employed wrist scans among young players found that three supposed 14-year-old male soccer players had stage 5 or stage 6 fusion. In that analysis, too, the authors similarly noted, “no correlation was observed between age category and grade of fusion.” But in both studies the authors dismissed the results—suggesting perhaps players were simply not aware of their real ages.

There are also genetic and environmental factors to consider before applying this study’s findings to the real world. The analysis underpinning FIFA’s age regulation does include some individuals from Algeria(which is in north Africa), yet it does not include anyone from sub-Saharan Africa, where this ruling has been applied before—and is again now. Very little puberty research is focused on the sub-Saharan region, so it is difficult to pinpoint information about the onset and tempo of puberty in Nigeria. But scientists have uncovered variation elsewhere. Multiple studies have shown that kids embark on puberty at different times based on factors including nutrition, environment and ethnic background. Puberty in African-American girls who grow up in the U.S. begins roughly a year earlier, on average, than among white girls, for example.

Ultimately, there is no known foolproof, scientific test that will allow doctors—or sports regulators—to determine an individual’s age. The science suggests that applying a lone wrist MRI test to make such determinations is inappropriate at best and potentially harmful at worst. Political leaders and regulators searching for age tests in other settings—such as classifying immigrants seeking asylum (because different rules apply for minors and adults)—could potentially look to this type of age cutoff test, too, with troubling results. Right now “people aren’t trying to use magnetic resonance imaging [to classify the age of refugees] but they are using x-ray imaging to look at bone age and make a determination as to whether they are children or not,” says Babette Zemel, a pediatrics professor focused on child growth and development at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. “Looking at the bones can give you a good idea if one child is skeletally more mature, but it is insufficient for determining whether or not a child should be permitted to be on a sports team or claim asylum status because it doesn’t tell you about their chronological age.”

Imoh Ezekiel could well revive his career at Belgian club KV Kortjik after he was released by relegated Spanish club UD Las Palmas.

The Nigeria striker, 24, has already featured for Belgian clubs Standard Liege and Anderlecht.

He cancelled his contract with Turkish club Konyaspor over unpaid salaries to join Las Palmas during the last winter transfer window.

Ezekiel is now a free player after Las Palmas let him go on July 1 even though he still had a year left on his contract after he failed to make an impact.

Should he finally sign for Kortjik, he will link up with compatriot Abduljaleel Ajagun, who has become a mainstay of the mid-table club

The MRI is only indicative not conclusive it tell you if a person in line with the baseline data if a person exceeds an age range but not his actual age.

So you do not expect a boy in the USA ingesting GM modified food and very high protein diet to have the same bone density and or fusion. As a boy coming from an impoverished background in Nigeria with poor medical health facilities.

Even with all the variables it's impossible to be conclusive only accurate about the age range not specific age.

Add to these variables the penchant to circumvent for. Financial gain. The equipment is only as good as the operators. If the operators have no integrity then OPARI as some will say.

Consider our emeritus judges found IBORI totally innocent and discharged and acquitted. However, same dude goes to London and pleads guilty without contesting the charges. Why

LIVERPOOLLiverpool right to tie down forgotten man Taiwo Awoniyi as he could be future star

Liverpool’s Nigerian talent will now head out on loan yet again.

Mathew Nash Published 12 hours ago on July 9, 2018 By Mathew Nash

TeamTALK are reporting that Liverpool have secured the future of young striker Taiwo Awoniyi despite interest from rivals. The report claims the likes of Barcelona, Inter Milan, Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City were all keen on the 20-year-old. Such interest in the Nigerian is certainly odd, considering he has never played a minute of first-team football at Liverpool.

Back in the summer of 2015, Liverpool decided to bring in the talented Nigerian attacker with a fee of £400,000 paid for his services, as reported by The Guardian. That fee was paid to Swedish side Kalmar, who had the right of first-option on the player if he was to leave the Imperial Academy in Nigeria, as reported by Pulse.

The teenager was however immediately sent out on loan. He could not receive a work permit and went to FSV Frankfurt before spending the next season at NEC Nijmegen. Both campaigns ended in relegation and many Liverpool fans have probably forgotten about the striker.

But Liverpool are right to be offering him a new deal.

Last season he was much more productive. He spent the campaign with Royal Excelsior Mouscron. He found the net 10 times in 31 appearances, also bagging seven assists. His form toward the end of the season, in particular, was very impressive. He scored five goals in six games before a hamstring problem ended his campaign in April.

What Liverpool have is a raw talent and, despite his work permit issues, they must make sure he remains theirs.

The report from TeamTALK suggests a potential two-year loan at Monaco could be on the cards and that would be a perfect opportunity for him to show his talents.

If he could push on into the Nigerian senior set-up, then Liverpool will have a great chance of securing that elusive work permit for the player.

If in two years time he has thrived in France and Liverpool have a gem on their hands, they will look back on this summer with pride at their hard work keeping the Super Eagle talent signed to Anfield.

Thank you very much

You have brought empirical evidence to this discourse that shows it is simply flawed and not as conclusive as some would have us believe.

The only day definitive evidence is in a society where there is AUTOMATIC NATIONAL DATA CAPTURE AT BIRTH that's why such countries d not require MRI.

This article tends to show that more underage fails the test than an overage passing. It mentions that a 14-16 years old child could fail due to complete fusion or near complete. If there's anything from the article, it is that the MRI is unfair to females and some young kids.

Official: Russian-Born Nigerian Striker Dubbed The New Lukaku Joins FC Krasnodar
Russian Premier League club FC Krasnodar have completed the signing of Russian striker of Nigerian descent Herman Olegovich Onugha, writes the official website of the Black-Greens.

Onugha was born in the Russian capital, Moscow on July 6, 1996 to a Nigerian father and moved to Penza along with his mother when he was three years old.

Krasnodar and FC Volgar-Astrakhan reached an agreement on the transfer of the attacker before he committed his future to the Premier League club for the next four seasons following a successful medical.

The 1.92 meters tall Onugha has been compared to Manchester United's Romelu Lukaku due to his playing style and physical attributes.

He started his professional career with Penza Zenit in 2017 before joining the ranks of FC Volgar-Astrakhan in the winter transfer market of 2018.

Russian-born defender Brian Idowu started three matches for the Super Eagles at this summer's World Cup.

He didn't fail to make impact, they got relegated. Imoh and Etebo were their only good players last season.

If Onyekuru is not qualified for work permit, why do some peeps here think Kayode would have qualified for work permit if he signed for Newcastle?

Anyway, Onyekuru is on his way to Galatasaray.

Henry’s new club

Nigerian attacker Henry Onyekuru is set for a second consecutive loan spell away from the club. The forward joined Everton from KAS Eupen last summer for £7 million but was immediately loaned out to Anderlecht. He enjoyed a good first half of last season but missed the second and, subsequently, the World Cup with a knee problem.

As reported by Sky Sports, the talented 21-year-old is in talks with Galatasaray over a move as he does not yet qualify for a UK Work Permit.

Bolasie targeted

Another Everton winger is also being linked with a move to Turkey. Yannick Bolasie is seemingly a target for Galatasaray’s main rivals Fenerbahce.

The DR Congo star joined Everton in a £25 million deal in August 2016 but suffered a knee injury early into his Goodison Park career.

He was a regular under Sam Allardyce last season but question marks have been raised over his future under Marco Silva.

Now, Sky Sports suggests he too could head to Turkey.

Lookman pursuit

RB Leipzig will not be giving up in their pursuit of Ademola Lookman anytime soon. The club’s sporting director Ralf Rangnick has confirmed they remain in talks over a potential deal.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo, the German side want to bring the player back to the Bundesliga next season after an extremely successful loan spell last season.

Everton have already rejected bids of £12 million and £14 million for the player but Leipzig are adamant the player wants to make the move.

This news gladdens my heart. We need young vibrant forwards like this. I am tipping Awoniyi, Osimhen, Sadiq, Yinka, Kayode, Onuachu and Dessers to come out all hot this coming season to fight for that Eagles striking spot.

Report just coming in suggest Liverpool has agreed two years loan deal with Monaco to take Taiwo Awoniyi on loan. This was after Barcelona and Inter Milan showed interest to sign him.

We’re all over this news…

teamTALK are exclusively claiming that Liverpool have signed young Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi to a five-year deal, while agreeing a two-year loan spell for him at AS Monaco!

They say that the 20-year-old was being heavily targeted by Barcelona and Inter Milan, but decided to stay at Liverpool.

Awoniyi arrived at Melwood in 2015, but has not made an appearance for the first-team due to work-permit issues and has spent time on loan at FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen and Mouscron. In Belgium in 2017/18, he enjoyed his most prolific campaign, notching ten times and registering plenty of assists as well.

The reason we’re excited about this is because Monaco develop talent as well as any other club on the planet.

In recent years, the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Fabinho, Benjamin Mendy, Tiemouye Bakoyoko and others have all developed in the French principality and left for enormous profit – and we hope Awoniyi can make similarly large strides.

To be honest, we didn’t have too much hope for the forward, but if the likes of Barca and Inter were trying to sign him – and AS Monaco have agreed to train him for two years – there must be something in his game that’s got Europe’s biggest clubs paying attention.

Liverpool stop Awoniyi’s Barca move

By The Eagle Online on July 10, 2018

Liverpool has fended off major interest from England and abroad to persuade Taiwo Awoniyi to sign a new deal with them.

Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City were all ready to take on 20-year-old Taiwo, who signed for Liverpool in 2015 after being spotted in a Coca Cola sponsored football tournament in London.

Barcelona and Inter Milan have also made moves for the Nigerian forward, but Liverpool believe they have something special and have agreed new terms on a five-year deal.

However, Taiwo, because of work-permit criteria will be loaned out again. Patrick Vieira had hoped to take him to Nice, but former Chelsea director Michael Emenalo has teed up a two-year loan deal for his club Monaco.

Taiwo has been capped six times at Under-23 level for Nigeria and has previously spent time on loan with FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen and Mouscron, where he scored 10 goals and claimed seven assists last season, and he now looks set for another two years on loan at Monaco.

Taiwo, who signed for Liverpool in 2015 from ex-Wolves midfielder Seyi Olofinjana’s Imperial Soccer Academy for £400,000, has had work permit issues meaning his Anfield career has yet to get going.

“For me, my main concern is to keep working hard for Mouscron,” Awoniyi told the Liverpool Echo in March. “It’s about scoring as much as I can, assisting goals.
“With the national team, the administrators and the coaches know the quality we have, and they know about me. There are a lot of Nigerian players in Belgium for them to watch, and hopefully I can catch their eye.”
