Nigeria, Spain Behind Equatorial Guinea In Race For Espanyol DM Saúl Coco Bassey

Nigeria, Spain Behind Equatorial Guinea In Race For Espanyol DM Saúl Coco Bassey
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that the Nigeria Football Federation are lagging behind their Equatoguinean counterparts in the race for the services of Espanyol wonderkid Saúl Basilio Coco-Bassey Oubiña.

Bassey is highly rated by the Espanyol youth team coaches and has been tipped to break into the first team of the Barcelona-based club in the not too distant future if he lives up to his billing.

Born in Lanzarote, Spain to a Equatoguinean father and Spanish mom, Bassey can still turn out for the Super Eagles if the granny rule is invoked as he has a Nigerian paternal grandfather.

Of all the three countries the defensive midfielder can represent, it's the Federación Ecuatoguineana de Fútbol that have made the first move to cap him, handing him an invitation for a friendly against Benin in September 2017 before he finally made his debut against Kenya two months ago.

However, friendlies are friendlies, the Nigerian Federation have less than two months to convince Bassey to play for the Super Eagles, with Equatorial Guinea set to take on Sudan in an African Cup of Nations qualifier in September.

The 19-year-old will become cap-tied to the Nzalang Nacional if he makes his competitive debut against the Sudanese.

Bassey sparkled as Espanyol youth team won the Catalonia Cup last month.

Enyeama Starts Pre-season Programme With Lille

By Johnny Edward:

Former Super Eagles captain, Vincent Enyeama, has started pre-season training with his French club Lille Metropole, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The 35 year old shot-stopper who missed the entire season last year recuperating from a meniscus injury he sustained in April 2017 expressed his delight returning to the first team squad in his final season at the club.

“First training session of the new season 2018/2019, same place same passion #footballismylife #losc #pride,” Enyeama tweeted on Monday.

Once installed as LOSC’s first choice, Enyeam, rapidly became one of Ligue 1’s best goalkeepers going 1,062 minutes without conceding a goal in the 2013-14 season.

He also won the UNFP player of the month twice that season while keeping an astonishing 21 clean sheets from 38 league games during the 2013/14 season.

Enyeama kept 40 clean sheets over the next three Ligue 1 seasons for what was often a poor Lille team under Girard then Hervé Renard and Frédéric Antonetti.

The former Nigeria international made 143 appearances for Lille in six seasons.

INTERVIEW – Onazi: Eagles Unlucky In Russia, We Can’t Let NFF Crisis Stop Our AFCON Dreams

July 10, 2018 2:23 am

Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi reveals in this exclusive Interview with Completesportsnigeria.com’s JOHNNY EDWARD, how the team handled their heartbreaking exit from the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup and looks forward to their next assignments, hoping the Amaju Pinnick, Chris Giwa Nigeria Football Federation crisis will not derail their plans to qualify for their first Africa Cup of Nations since 2013. Excerpts….

You were one of the key players during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, but unfortunately, you didn’t play a single match in Russia. How devastating was that?

Well, we thank God for everything. When we started the qualifiers we did all we could to put the country first to ensure we qualified without any problems. It was perfect, but getting to the World Cup things began to change.

In all situations I always give thanks to God. We went to the World Cup and things weren’t the way they should be but it’s all good. We’ve done our best and we have to be positive for the next one to come. I must confess it was disappointing.

The Super Eagles were just minutes away from securing another round of 16 place in the competition until Marcos Rojo scored that late winner for Argentina. What was it like on the substitutes bench before and after the goal was scored?

It was very disappointing. As at that time, I was warming up to be introduced. I was also shouting at the second assistant coach for them to make changes to defend and make sure we secured the draw.

We tried to get a goal but it was too late. We were just unlucky because we had more talents in our squad to the World Cup in Russia not to have reached the round of 16.

Brazil, France, Belgium and Croatia are the remaining teams at the World Cup, which team do you tip to win? I know you have a soft spot for the English because I know you crave to play in the English Premier League?

It’s quite difficult to call. All four teams left in the tournament are good teams and it will take a team that will go the extra mile to win this World Cup. They all look good to win it but let’s see how the games will go.

You were linked with a move away from Trabzonspor last season, will you be staying at the club this season?

I really don’t know. There are offers but I need to sit down with my manager to work something out.

The Super Eagles will play Seychelles in a 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers in Victoria in September. What must be done for Nigeria to win that game following the team’s painful exit at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia?

For now everybody is shattered. It was a disappointing World Cup for me. I think we just need to bring ourselves back together and hope the issues with the Federations don’t affect our preparations.

The most important thing is to put the country first. Other personal issues should not derail our ambition to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations. We missed the last two editions and we must raise ourselves to beat the odds and qualify for the tournament.

He started games at the end of the season and he always stood up to be counted. Calleri was probably the reason why they got relegated missing chance after chance.

Galatasaray Coach, Terim: Onyekuru Will Be Great Signing For Us

July 10, 2018 11:28 am

Galatasaray manager, Fatih Terim, believes that Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru whom they have been keeping tabs on since January will be a perfect signing when his transfer is completed in the coming days, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Onyekuru, 21, spent last season on loan at Anderlecht, but his campaign was cut short by a long-term knee injury that ultimately blew his Russia 2018 World Cup chances.

The Turkish giants confirmed on Monday that they are in talks with Onyekuru’s parent club, Everton over a potential transfer and Terim can’t wait for the deal to be completed.

“We have been keeping tabs on Onyekuru since January,” Terim told Turkish Football.

“I hope our new transfer is a success.

“Everyone will see that the transfer makes financial sense when the details are revealed.”

Onyekuru joined Everton in the summer of 2017 after an impressive season at modest Belgian top flight club Eupen.

He was loaned out to Anderlecht where he overcame a slow start to hit good form, scoring nine goals in 19 league appearances and 10 goals in 28 games in all competitions despite playing mostly as a wide forward.

He got injured in December and lost his place in the Anderlecht line-up upon recovery late in the season.

RB Leipzig Keen On Signing Lookman From Unwilling Everton

July 10, 2018 9:27 am

Newly appointed manager of German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, Ralf Ragnick, has stated that the club will push on with their intention of signing Nigerian-born England U-21 international Ademola Lookman from Everton.

Everton have already rejected a bid worth around £12m from RB Leipzig for the young striker

Ragnick was elevated from the position of Sporting Director to head coach by the club on Monday.

He will be in charge of the club for the 2018/2019 Bundesliga season.

Lookman, 20, spent the second half last season on loan with the Bundesliga club, scoring five goals in 11 league games.

“We’re still in talks over Ademola Lookman. We want him back and he wants to come.”Ragnick told reporters on Monday.

stop with over generalizing so all ex-internationals are without honour and altruistic motives? don't let too much cynicism prevent you from analyzing issues on there merit. all this talk of you how things are always done in nigeria will prevent us from recognizing when progress is being made.

in answering your query i make no assumptions we just have to continue to try and engage the best people whether former players or not. guys like danny shittu who has shown passion for kids should be engaged.

lastly komekn nigeria will not change just by complaining and pointing out wrongs without giving solutions. we should all as stakeholders continue to insist and make sure the right things are done. even the almighty english football system didn't get to where it is overnight. player wages, hooliganism, stadium safety, racism where once horrible problems that lasted for years but a few brave people continued to challenge the status quo until things changed sometimes drastic other times gradual.

nigeria football even the country has a long way to go but we are making progress. might no be as fast as we want but it's still progress and we all should continue to contribute until we are where we want to be as a country not just sitting on our hands complaining expecting angels to come down from heaven to solve problems for us.

komekn:

First of all you make assumption about Nigerian players and thier commitment to youth development.

You will be shocked how Nigerian players outside of camp do big man for each other.

How many of our players brought players into the clubs they played in.

is rohr the best tactically? maybe not but would i blame him solely for us crashing out of the world cup? no i can't because as a coach was it his fault that against croatia etebo deflected the ball into our own goal or his fault that ekong brought down mandzukic or that ighalo missed two guilt edged chances against argentina? if we had better players maybe we won't be having this conversation. i personally think rohr can do better when better players are discovered and added to the team. i see where we were before he came and i think we have made progress

edi287:

Rohr has been getting away with suspect tactical decisions which many overlooked as a result of good fortune...think back to the game against SA where he started a midfield 3 of Ndidi - Onazi - Etebo and playing Iheanacho who isn't a target man as a 9. Playing Mikel as a 10 with 2 destroyers behind him who aren't good passers is another example.
He's a good man manager and all and I like the feel good factor he's brought back to the team.
However - based on results, you can't criticize Keshi and praise Rohr. It's crazy to do so.
Rohr is just not that great tactically. I don't mind him staying till 2022, but he has to improve. Man management will not get you anywhere without the right tactics.

Icon79:
You made some good points except for trying to blame VicMo for our attacking woes in Russia. Except for our first game against Croatia, VicMo played as a Wingback in Russia.

As regards to the rest of your arguments, here are some facts I would leave with you and everyone else:
1. Gernot Rohr is definitely NOT the right man for the job. This world cup clearly exposed his technical deficiencies as a coach. And the fact that after nearly two years at the helm, Rohr still doesn't know what's his best team is sadly disappointing.
2. Based on everything I have seen, Rohr has taken this team as far as he could take them. Fact: the 3 first games he had with this team - vs Zambia (away), Algeria (home), and Cameroun (home) were his best performances with this team. Since that time the team standard has actually started going down rather than improving.
3. Samson Siasia would have done much better with this team if he were given the same support and the freehand Gernot Rohr received.

Having said all that, I still think we should retain Rohr simply because firing him would take us back another 4 years. For instance, if we are to fire Rohr today, the NFF isn't gonna replace him with Siasia or with even a more competent foreign coach. Rather, if we fire him, the NFF would replace him with that charlatan, Yusuf! To me, that would be going from frying pan to fire. Hence, all things considered, I believe that it's in our best interest to stick with Gernot Rohr at least through the AFCON. Let's give him a mandate to make, at least, the finals of AFCON or get fired.

“Maybe people are not concerned about unfairly excluding kids from competition,” Rauch says, “but that’s the inevitable problem.” FIFA had not responded to a request for comment by publication time.

One study on 86 young male Ghanaian players concluded, “There was no significant correlation between the chronological age and the degree of fusion.” Another analysis that similarly employed wrist scans among young players found that three supposed 14-year-old male soccer players had stage 5 or stage 6 fusion.

This is the point we are hammering on. That the MRI scan is very strict and most times, players who are younger than seventeen fail the test. Nigeria has been on the heavy end of this whip with a large percent of our teen players failing the test.

The article never pointed on a large or close to a little fraction of overage players passing the test.
This makes the MRI scan reliable in trusting a player is not overage. Unfortunately, players younger than the 17 fail the test like Maduabuchi Obinwa.

So when we say we trust the ages of our young players who passed the MRI wrist scan test, this article in no way disproves it.

I believe Rohr's choices definately dashed any lingering hopes we had but at the end of the day good teams dont rely on minor changes in formations, personel or a few missed chances, they just come out with the win. Teams like Brazil or France don't blame their losses on something like a guy's foot slipping of the field and misses the goal by 2 feet. These are teams the know they're making it to the knockout stages.

I took out my time to study a bit on the subject (Mri wrist scan) over the past few days and from my observation, MRI scan cannot be used to determine a person's true age. Rather the wrist scan can tell an individual's skeletal maturity not his/her chronological age.
Scientifically, adolescents enter puberty at different times and grow at different rates that is why a 15yr old can fail the test and you can also find an individual above 17 passing the same test due to variations in growth rate which could be as a of environmental/ecological or hereditary factors.
Unfortunately, this part of the world is not scientifically driven. There's no baseline for growth rate that is standard to us. Even the thesis had kids sampled from Algeria, Switzerland, Malaysia and Argentina and non from Africa.

From the article average age of complete fusion is 18.3years.

Some kids less than 17 have already attained complete fussion while some attain this complete fusion at 18/19.
The system is not perfect but with a standard deviation put at as low as 0.9 then the system of analysis is very reliable. Period.

The MRI does not give you a chronological or absolute age, it gives you more of a relative age( age relative to bone fusion).

If you really read that publication you posted you find out where the standard deviation of the result was put at 0.9. That deviation, from a statistical point of view, is very low. And that gives more credence to the MRI analysis.

The report I posted had it that a 15yr old failed the MRI scan. Where does this put your 0.9% (near perfect) accuracy? Lol
