I find myself between rock and hard place when it comes to having solar system. I was spending 4000-4600 naira per day on petrol the lastme I was in Nigeria. I was basically on generator 22-23 hours per day.

My problem is spending between $9500-$11,000 dollars on European solar gadgets or inferior solar system from China or India which won't cost me more than 2 million naira but guaranteed to not hold up for more than few months as read in the available reviews online.

My dilemma is; why should I spend $9500-$11,000 on 8kva solar system on a house I don't even spend more than two weeks in a year? Does it make any sense at all? I'm just not convinced yet.

It doesn't make sense
spend day time in ur house and night at hotels

Seconded smiley. Since you already have a gen, it's far far more cost effective to just buy the fuel you need for those few days when you're in town.

@Fast shipping we have discuss this if i can rememeber, the same happened to me the two times i was in Naija last time spent a lot of money on diesel like i told you my system was tailored to my usage with the Panels configured to my
wishes. Right it is expensive but if i am clocking 18kwh to 22kwh per day with my Panels the Charge controller is also capable of usinf´g the Grid and like i told you b4 i using the lifepo4 batteries there are a lot of advantages involved you can be totally off grid.

To butress the point further, after correct installation, solar does not need servicing the next 25yrs you don't need diesel or oil, and no pollution and if we look at the Naija situation the next 10yrs we will probably still have challenge of Power.
25 yrs with your solar array you are still going strong and i canbet you it is very additive you will be asking yourself why you have not done this b4

Now this is where I'd love to see such cost analysis from the would be solar contractor/installer.

Nice analysis sir. It is not cheaper than wooden formwork.
the 8ft x 2ft ( 1.44sqm) will cost an average of N2,500/sqm.

timber form using very sound timber ( 25 x 300 x 3500mm)
cost of timber = 1200/sqm
cost of the strut, braze, nail and binding wire and occasional bamboo brazing = N600
cost of workmanship = N300/sqm
Total cost breakdown = N 2100/sqm ( which is 4,100 per pair ).

At first glance at this two type of formwork, the prefab type looks quite cheaper at least 39% cheaper, but looking deeper into the advantages and disadvantages will give us a clearer picture of which is better.

The prefab formwork:
It is neater and faster than the conventional type of form using timber or wood but can be very difficult to braze when the beam thickness exceed 0.6m (2ft deap beam). when use for raft foundation, it will be difficult to join them verticall and you will need to provide extra brazing in the form of wood and bamboo, this will automatically drive up the price.

it is not that flexible to use for raft or beam fromwork because there are cases where you will need to form a beam that is less than 2.4m (8ft) in length, since you can't easily cut the the form work.

It is difficult to get the joint of the beam or raft formwork done

The wooden/timber form
It is more flexible
It can easily be brazed by batting and bamboo during raft construction.
It can easily be reused for subsequent job like the lintel or the slab/decking during construction

In summary, Timber form will be ideal for custom built home, where the depth of the raft exceed 0.6m (2ft) while the prefab will be ideal for mass housing design where the raft beam is design to be in multiple of 8ft in length, for drainages and other infrastructure project

Very Good I concur.

4k/day on fuel x say 15days isnt that bad = 60k, unless you are complaining about the noise and all.
how did you arrive at that you need an 8kva inverter?..if you want to cut cost..run only 1ac on the inverter for 4 to 8hrs, get a 5kva inverter , 8 to 12 batteries and over 4kw solar panels. i guess thats the 2m to 3m quote you were given for the chinese/indian brands....they are fairly reliable, no need wasting money on usa/german inverters if you dont want to spend much.

a 4kva indian inverter costs abot 200k, while its german /american models cost 900k n above, same goes for panels chinese panels are about 50% cheaper that usa models.
i have been using the indian inverters for over 5yrs now...working ok

Did you not see the post by KDesignteck up there, where he advertised his Achitectural drawings, with so many pictures of his product and asked if anyone wants to patronise him, Is that not advert or do we have two different definition of adverts here?

I have nothing against the poster but l just think the same yardstick should be used across board, no sacred cow.
But if you say you dont see it or it is not advert but QUESTIONS, please don vex, so be it. undecided undecided

It is normal practice sir.
Hardcore is also another alternative, but nylon still remains the best if u ask me, due to its high water resistance level.

Looks fair to a large extent, though it largely depends on d height of your foundation which we dont know. But as regards the bag of cements why such a huge variation? & also two trips of sand may likely not be enough( although i dont know d tonnage he is working with).
