Excellent move. I enrolled my 10yr old kid in the STEM summer camp. They are never too young to start coding.

His project was to create a game.

Same thing my mum did for me
Now I can make clothes, hair, beads and pastries.
I learnt them at a young age when I wasn't stressed or trying too hard to be perfect and it was fun.
I didn't miss anything by not going to holiday lessons.
Holidays are for playing, resting and trying out things that are interesting which you can't do because of school.

Dignity in labour. This kid will be in touch with both worlds during this period and I think it will make him conscientious above all.

So cool!

Instead of engaging children who have being through a session of writing, reading and learning, it is not always cool putting them through the same stress during their vacation, in the name of summer lesson.

There are better things to do at this period of vacation like, apprentice, sporting activities, tourism.

Exactly what my dad always say...What is the essence of Vacation and holiday if they will still be going to school... Plus the extra hours now...8 - 4pm... Students of today are not far ahead or even as good as Students in the 80's...

Nice one from him

This is good. I commend the guy, cos I'll do the same thing too. In this world, if you don't have practical skills to make money on your own, you've not started. You might end up like the Osun workers who commit suicide when their salary is not paid, because they're hungry and can't find any way to feed. Imagine.

That's why I don't respect salary earners, sorry to say. Forget all the academic qualifications or professional courses. They're worthless. If they're that useful, why not use them to make money on your own?

For most salary earners, if they are sacked and can't find another job, then they're worse off than an Okada rider. They can't even rub two stones together to earn one kobo on their own. That's not life. If you're in this category, you've not proven yourself in the real world. Go out there all by yourself and make money by solving problems with any marketable skill you possess or through one hustle or the other. Otherwise, you're not yet ready, sorry.

The exact two things I have in plan for my son when he grows up; mechanic apprenticeship or computer coding/programming.

No summer lesson for my kids, na time for skill acquisitions

This kinda reminds me of one time I saw two young boys about this age, who were apprentices at a road side mechanic in my area discussing.. They were arguing about work, I was so glad that I almost cried cos I imagined them in their 20s how wonderfully skilled and knowledgeable they would be.. The only thing that was missing was education. Wish they could speak good English with some little repackaging

I don't think that's d right thing to do. In 20yrs time the mechanic we use to know would be gone.

Very good. The thing about mechanic and other similar vocations is that 'hand work' will always be in fashion, but don't count on it. Trust me, things evolve quickly, but technology and the Internet is the future.

So I'll expose my children to online/tech hustles from Day 1... Programming, coding, arbitrage, eCommerce, blogging, etc. Sooner than you imagine, everything would move online in Nigeria (as it has already happened in the civilised world). Some domain names are more expensive than any acre of land anywhere in the world. Think about that.

It's too easy to make a decent livelihood or even make a colossal fortune by mastering this online ecosystem of commerce, services, and such. Nigeria is a relatively virgin market, so the timing is great for all of us men of purpose and action. Let's jump in now, and then prepare our youngies to join in as early as possible too.

Gazzuzz is too far from festac.
Also, you do not understand
A lot of Nigerians have a very fraudulent attitude. I have been in clean repair offices in pc village, watching people lie to customers as they fleece them.

In the 90s an arsehole loaded my first pc with viruses so that we would come back to him. A computer literate friend sorted it out, but we had to format the pc.

On the flip side, we have plenty of people with a poverty mentality who do not understand rca, and will always treat the symptoms only.

I just got off the phone with one of them. A maintenance vendor who had no effing idea how equipment under his watch went bad, and does not understand that it is a problem

Do you want to expose a young mind to that? I already see mentally lazy Nigerian youths all over nl
