Here is a report : Excitement as some Delta youth see a train for the 1st time. Arrival of the 1st passenger train to Delta state yesterday. It took off from Itakpe, Kogi State travelled through a 320km rail track through Adogo Ajaokuta Agenebode Uromi Igbanke Agbor Finally, Warri. https://mynationnews.com/2018/07/28/excitement-as-some-delta-youth-see-a-train-for-the-1st-time-video/ I may not be a fan of PMB or GEJ, but at least, this shows some form of progress in the rail sector. 1 Like

StudentsNG: Most of you just criticize without knowing anything. The railroads were designed to link all the steel plants and the mines. Steel production is heavy duty stuff you can't easily convey by the roads, hence the railways. What is idiotic about this? 6 Likes |

That rail line has always been there. Nothing is wrong with that rail line. I don't understand what they really mean. Are they trying to maintain the rail line for use again? Or what? That line passing through agenebode has been there for years now....not been used. So don't be deceived, they are not building a new rail line. |

richiepolymer:The rail line was built to over 90% completion almost 20 years ago and then abandoned to rot away with several parts vandalised over the years. It was intended to carry raw materials between 2 steel cities. But now it has been completed; the vandalised sections rebuilt and stations built along the way (so I hear) to make it also cater for passenger traffic. cc: johnpablo541 5 Likes |

richiepolymer: I wanted to ask if they built a new rail line. Cos i remember during my pre-degree days at DELSU (2003) the rail lines were newly completed and i had a friend whose lodge was not too far from the railway tracks close to the river by Ajalomi (dont know if i spelt it correctly) Where new tracks built or they renovated or started using those ones. But we must give kudos to the present govt if they started using it though. 1 Like |

Ofodirinwa: StudentsNG:@Ofodirinwa, A railway connecting 2 steel cities is what you call dead?... Delta steel and ajaokuta steel both need this rail to return to life, and if both steel plants return to life , you really think Ajaokuta will be a dead city?... By the way I'd take it that your reference to Warri as a dead city was a 'slip of hand'. Meanwhile, no words for the fellow below who just termed people brain dead for this; his words already speaks volumes of the status of his own brain. 2 Likes |

Ofodirinwa:This rail line was built decades ago to transport iron ore from Itakpe near Okene to Aladja steel rolling mill. It's a product of shagari government. The conversion of an already existing line to mass transit purposes must not be used to mask the neglect of the steel industry. Development worldwide is tied to iron and steel. Since we have it, should we be importing it?? |

sarrki: And apart from that, if you take a look at the map, the railway route commences from Warri.Well not really Warri, but Aladja, where you have the Delta steel complex, look further up , you see Ajaokuta where we have another steel company. Now add the oil and gas the larger Warri is known for, and you'll be looking at a railway line that is poised to be massively used to haul iron and steel products as well as petroleum products, so don't mind the other poster you responded to for he is plagued by acute ignorance 4 Likes 1 Share |
