Look at this IPIG! You call Warri unproductive just because of your hatred for Buhari?
You see why the South Southerners rejected being part of the dead biiafraud when they know how irritating, selfish & uncouth a people the IPIGs can be!

That rail line has always been there. Nothing is wrong with that rail line. I don't understand what they really mean. Are they trying to maintain the rail line for use again? Or what? That line passing through agenebode has been there for years now....not been used.
So don't be deceived, they are not building a new rail line.
What did your PDP looters do about it? Nothing.

That project was started by OBJ continued by GEJ and now the govt of Buhari is revisiting it

Yes, the project has been there since I was a child, but you must also give credit to the present government for reviving it, hate all you want, but this project will benefit not only my people but my state.

Aladja is definitely going to benefit from this project, Once again, Kudos to the buhari led Government.

Beautiful and very laudable. We must not criticise and condemn all the time just for the sake of it, We should also be giving kudos where and when it is earned.

Steadily and gradually, the Nigeria we all can be proud of will be a reality.

Okay, you be bigoted and myopic all you want, but I must remind you that Buhari's govt HAS NOT revived the project, site inspection and an open declaration to do something does not amount to ACTUALLY doing the thing, especially when we are talking about a Buhari govt that has broken over 90% ohis campaign promises. So their intent is not good enough, let's see real work

ITAKPE-AJOKUTA-WARRI RAIL LINE

"The Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri rail line is passing through the following communities in Delta (Aladja, Urjevwu, Orhowhorun, Agbarho, Ovwori, Okpara Inland, Abraka and Urhonigbe), in Edo (Idumuesah, Ewossa, Agbor, Ekpon, Igbanke, Isanlu, Ekehen, Uromi, Ubiaja, Aigere, Uzanu and Agenebode) and in Kogi (Nashe, Ajaokuta Steel Complex, and Itakpe). I think the Federal Government needs to work with the LGs in these area on the site development and land-use planning for this corridor to prevent uncordinated haphazard development.

A future extension of the Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri line northwards by about 200km will take it through Lokoja, Abaji, Gwagwalada, Kuje up to Idu linking up with the existing Abuja-Kaduna line and the planned Kaduna-Kano line.

With the dredging of the River Niger from Bifurcation at Forcados up to Warri, it means in not too distant future, goods coming into Warri Port will find their way all the way to Lokoja, Abuja, Kaduna and Kano.

Onitsha is just about 70km east of Agbor, the design of the Second Niger Bridge has already been modified to include a rail line at the centre, this means with some additional effort, a 70km rail line will link Agbor and through the Second Niger Bridge to the main Market in Onitsha.

There is an existing unused rail bridge already between Ajaokuta and Itobe, with some effort (not up to 5km of rail), the main rail can be linked with the bridge into Kogi East (servicing nearby communities such as Idah, Ayangba, Dekina and Ankpa).

There is the Lagos-Calabar Coastal line (under project preparation) that will take off from around Shagamu along the on-going Lagos-Ibadan line, passing through Benin, Warri, Yenagoa, Port Harcourt, Aba, Uyo and Calabar.

There is the planned Kano-Maiduguri line passing Dutse, Potiskum, Damaturu and Maiduguri, which will be sequenced after the Kaduna-Kano line is completed.

There is also the Kano-Dawanau-Jibiya line passing through the Dawanau (the largest grains market in West Africa) and Jibiya to complete the LAKAJI corridor.

The government is negotiating for the contract of Port Harcourt to Maiduguri which is about 2,000 kilometres with a spur from Owerri through Nnewi and Awka and then from there to Abakiliki, while proceeding on to Gombe with a spur to Yobe, and through Yola, and then to Borno.

There is work going on. Let's just be patient!"

When it comes to south east, the only thing I see is we will,we will, very soon we will,we are about to...

Mr economist

Sarrki, can you please learn the difference between 'no' and 'know'? They have the same pronunciation but different spellings and meanings. Please do my eyes a favour and stop writing 'know' in place of 'no'. Thank you.

Talking about the rail line, it has nothing to do agriculture, at all. It was initiated so that it could be used to move steel from Ajaokuta steel plant to Warri Seaport, for exportation. Now that Ajaokuta steel plant hasn't come alive, the rail line can serve other purposes including mass movement of people.
I'm sure soon enough, a rail line will be built from Abuja to Ajaokuta which will join this one, then it will make transport from the South South and South East to the North a lot easier.

@Ofodirinwa,
A railway connecting 2 steel cities is what you call dead?... Delta steel and ajaokuta steel both need this rail to return to life, and if both steel plants return to life , you really think Ajaokuta will be a dead city?... By the way I'd take it that your reference to Warri as a dead city was a 'slip of hand'.

Meanwhile, no words for the fellow below who just termed people brain dead for this; his words already speaks volumes of the status of his own brain.

Tell the Delta and Ajaokuta steel story to people who know nothing about state of things around those facilities. You want to ‘connect’ dead historical facilities that never operated while Trucks keep deforming our road networks to move imported goods from Lagos to major cities around the country.

You want to connect Delta and Ajaokuta when trucks spend days to move food, cattle and grains from North to other parts of the country through bad roads. A living brain would connect Lagos-Extreme North, North -East and West-East; each route trailing the middle belt.

I don’t blame you, I blame those you work for.

Once again you've just showcased the shallowness of your thought process by concluding in your head that "for me to say the rail was built to connect 2 steel plants, then I must be working for someone or I may be trying to defend someone." You really think everyone you meet online is always into your shallow apc vs pdp nonsense arguments?... Even when the matter has to do with Nigeria's physical development?

I'd only say this once again just for the sake of others reading this who may not be aware of the history of this rail and who might just be in this thread to genuinely seek information; the idea behind the Ajaokuta-Aladja railway which was conceived, built and abandoned decades ago was to connect the 2 steel cities and move raw material. You claim Ajaokuta is dead and that is true, but having this rail being functional happens to be one of the pre-requisites to yank Ajaokuta Steel to life. Of course I wouldn't expect you to understand this simple logic, in your mind, you have a monopoly of wisdom and everyone else who thinks differently from your myopic reasoning circle must be a dead brain. Once again, you just exposed your mental status.

Keep exposing your ignorance. sad The easiest way to open up a rural community or an agrarian one, is to provide good roads, rail systems and various modes of transport. It is known as provision of 'access,' or facilitating 'accessibility.' That is what opens the eyes of travellers and commodity traders, to the potentials of such areas. Before you know it, the places you thought were 'dead,' would start thriving, and become centres of commerce. wink
P
Not only that, by linking those rural areas to
commercial townships and capital cities, you reduce travel time between those locations. People might decide to build houses in those rural areas and commute into town on a daily basis, courtesy of the railway services and/or roads, that now pass through there. undecided

How did areas like Mararaba, Karu, Nyanya etc develop? Were they not rural dead areas on the outskirts of Abuja, that got opened up due to the network of roads passing through those places? It became cheaper for workers to live there, and commute to the Abuja city centre on a daily basis. Compare those districts now, with they way they used to be 5-10 years ago, and you would see a massive difference. undecided

Finally, the railway track or line has to pass through certain communities or areas, because it is being constructed on land and not in the air. So no matter how you dislike the thought, some communities that you feel are 'dead areas,' would still have to host the railway tracks, because it cannot be built in outer space. sad

You need to focus on the bigger picture, as this same railway line would connect Delta State straight to the Middle Belt, and eventually to Abuja, while reducing pressure on the bad roads in that axis. Passengers would no longer have to suffer while commuting through those bad roads, as there would now be a better alternative.
Fire on Lecture him.

I don’t blame you, I blame those you work for.
When people try to educate you, you need to listen.

1). When that rail line was originally planned, it was meant to link Ajaokuta steel in Kogi, to Delta Steel in Aladja within Delta state. wink The concept was to move steel ingots, feedstock, ore and finished steel products, from both locations via rail.

2). The railway line was already about 80% completed, before both firms were shut down. undecided The rail tracks have remained unutilised until recently, when govt decided to complete it.

3). Now, it does not make any economic or commercial sense, to continue abandoning a rail line that was almost completed years ago. sad It would be better to revive it, don't you think so? A decision was therefore made to complete the railway line, and use it to transport goods and passengers from Warri (through other towns in the SS), to the North-Central area from where they could easily commute to Abuja, and other parts of the North. This would reduce the burden on the roads, and eliminate the attendant insecurity that passengers experience, while commuting on the poor highways linking both areas.

4). By the time the railway is extended to Abuja and other parts of the country, the expectation is that it would ease movement of cargo across both regions, and cut down the number of large trucks and heavy-duty trailers on that route. sad

Cattle, foodstuff and other forms of livestock can still be transported from the North down to the North-Central region by road, from where it can then be moved by rail to the SS, and maybe further down to the SE, if adequate transportation by road from Warri is made. Logistics would be easier to manage in such cases, as distance would be reduced, due to the rail connection.

5). Hopefully, by the time the railway line starts operating, federal govt will have to dredge Warri seaport so that cargo can be moved by barges directly to the seaport. From there, it can be transferred through rail, to the North. undecided

Now is this tutorial simple enough for you to understand, or do you need more explanation? Kindly note: further tutorials would not be free, so get your foreign currency ready, as I only accept tuition fees in US dollars. cool
