Maybe you didn't realize the last world cup in Russia, countries like Peru, Colombia and Argentina had as much as 40-50k fans per game, present in the stadium.
Where will those teaming number of fans stay? You expect them to sleep in the stadium?
If hosting world cups was all about having stadium, even Equatorial Guinea can comfortably host the world cup.
Devote your time in doing a little bit of research before you engage in some debates. It makes it easier for everyone.

Prior to the 2002 world cup I toured major cities hosting the world cup in Korea. Infact, entered 1 or 2 of the stadiums and even had a feel of the grass.

That's why I can tell you that a city does need 30,000 hotel rooms before they host world cup because some of those cities I visited didn't have such numbers of hotels as at that time. You can lodge in neighbouring cities and still watch your matches.

However, 40,000 or 50,000 fans coming to support a team is normally a special case but if peradventure such happens, cities around are available.

If it is about research, I don tey for dis world cup hosting things for 8 years.

Sir Terzurum5.... I can see that the title of the thread has been altered. Now it just reads "Afcon 2019".....

One question: After Afcon 2019 is done and dusted, will you again alter the thread title to Afcon 2021 or even Olympics 2020?

This thread was originally set out to cover all the events and stories and discussions surrounding our build up to Russia 2018 and Afcon 2019 so altering the thread name will only act to confuse folks the more. This thread is meant to end with Afcon 2019 no matter how big it has gotten just like how the previous thread ended with Afcon 2017 failed qualification. The threads we open are like Chronicles and archives of information that document our football stories and more and thus must be properly defined by specificity of threads created for a period.

And also, I wanna ask why you bowed to the pressure from Dad Icon4s to remove the phrase, "Dawn of a new era"... Or is it because we lost out in Russia??

Look, before the brightest Dawn is always the Dark nights... The darkness of the night is always thickest before the brightest Dawn... Our experience in Russia is a seed sown for this young team. I always said it was gonna be our BAPTISM of fire on the international stage. We have a team on the rise and more quality young talents are sprouting up in our football. Just take a look at Kalu's move for instance... You cannot deny the fact that a new dawn is coming. Even a goal.com article lists K.Nwakali as one of the young players of today's game to watch out for in Qatar 2022 (if we get there... But I know we will qualify). A new era is coming and Russia 2018 should not blind us to that fact... Maturity takes time and four years is more than enough. Afcon 2019 will show how much this team have truly grown post-Russia so please buckle up and get ready... A new era in Nigerian football is indeed close.

Welcome back son!

We missed you a great deal. Sure your ventures were very successful.

On the change in nomenclature of the title , haha, Yes the New Era has dawned. We are in it already and so we have to move on and look forward to better days ahead.

We cannot be carrying A new dawn tag till Qatar 2022. Russia did not dampen my spirit at all about this team. If for one thing, the team has even gotten stronger since after that Croatia defeat.

Yes, we had a Super Eagles thread before this. But where is that thread today? I can't even find it.

But if we have one Super Eagles thread and continue to modify the title with each upcoming tournament then it would be easy for us to have it as an archive, like a book, were we can easily turn back to a particular page and pick up a post or comment. I don't think terminating this thread at 2019 would be a good idea because this thread will also varnish like the last Super Eagles thread.

With each successive U17, U20 and U23 classes we can create a thread. But we can have one well documented Super Eagles thread. Soldier come, Soldier go but barracks remain no be so?

I go like advise u to go by the name Samuel, because the name Kalu, though it brings success, is legendary and might be too heavy for you. The last Kalu we had(Kalu Uche) , did well but then, the name was a whit too heavy for him.

Nwankwo Kalu already made that name an icon

Bonaventure Dennis has recovered fully from an ankle injury picked up in pre-season and was even an unused substitute when Club Brugge won 1-0 at Royal Excel Mouscron on Sunday.

Dennis missed the Belgian Super Cup for the Belgian champions against cup winners Standard Liege and also missed the opening league match into the new season.

“We can wait and see if (Dennis) can feature in our next game,” Club Brugge coach Ivan Leko.

Last term, little known Nigerian forward Dennis enjoyed a great start to his first season in Belgium following his transfer from Ukrainian club FC Zorya but he struggled as the season wore on.

Hosting logistics have always proved to be a huge challenge for any world cup host. I know the Koreans used cruise boats to accomade fans during the world. It was also done during Olympics in Sydney. As a matter of fact, Qatar's LOC are toying with the idea of having tents and using cruise boats to overcome the challenge, since they cannot meet up with the over 600K hotel rooms FIFA mandated them to provide. Mind you, this numver will increase stratospherically with the world cup expansion. We could be looking at an additional 300-400K with the expansion.

Look, world cup is no child's play. The logistics to host the event is very steep especially for an under developed like Nigeria who still depends alot on foreign aids to cater for basic needs of the country.
Nigeria will have to borrow more than $50B just to embark on a white elephant project that is to host a world cup. This number is in absence of local debt.
How many generations will it take to pay off such huge debt deficit and incurring interest? Will there still be life after the world cup? What if crude oil prize takes a hit right after the tournament? How on earth do you cussion the recession that will follow?

The next world cup host, Qatar has as much as $340B in external reserves. With that hedge funds, they can dig themselves out of any economic recession after the world cup if crude prizes prove unstable. How much do your country have in external reserves?

Honestly, I dont know why Nigerians think too much of themselves with this big time Charlie attitude of thinking we are too big, when we have nothing.
This same delusional mindset was the reason some overrated the Super Eagles before the world cup. Even dreaming of making the semi finals, they tagged those of us who were real of having deafist mindset.

Here is the thread with you as the very last person to comment on it.... "Blast from the...." grin

https://www.nairaland.com/2315999/super-eagles-nigeria-thread-2017/160

It is very easily accessible through Google search. wink The internet never forgets. These threads are well documented and anyone that search "Super Eagles" or "Super Eagles thread(s)" can access them via a simple Google search.

I get your point though. Maintaining one thread sounds cool but the team evolves from tournament to tournament and period to period. We have had this discussion before in the previous super Eagles thread.

In truth, continuously modifying the title of this thread as each tournament comes year after year can be confusing to non-vocal members viewing as guests or from the ghostmode cave.

In conclusion shaa, I understand your angle... maybe then, for the sake of just continuing... "The Super Eagles thread" tag in the thread title will be "the only constant" in the title while the period or tournament in focus can change from time to time. I can say okay, for continuity sake provided that constant changes not.

And yeah Dad, my ventures are going just fine. Really been engaged but all is going well. wink

The argument is not who can host. We hosted, but how good was it OVERALL?
I’m confident the other countries can host it even better, namely Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt. Not if you can my friend, how well?

forgiveness:

Nigeria is not serious yet hosted 1999 FIFA U20 world cup, 2000 Afcon and 2009 FIFA U17 world cup yet none of these so called countries have been able to do that save Egypt.

Besides, you're confused. Stick to either hosting world cup or Afcon.

Logistics and Organizing is just wack.

They'll be having LOCs upandan that cannot function and think all possible scenarios that might happen.

i'm inclined to follow tbaba's train of thought. for one who are the people who tend to take such dangerous journeys across the mediterranean mostly our country men/women from the southern part of nigeria even though 65-80% of those living in extreme poverty are based in the north. for me i think the attitude of alot of southerners is that europe, america/canada is some eldorado and they will do anything in their power notwithstanding their economic status to get there. all those edo girls who get trafficked are we saying their situation is way worse off than ladies in rural northern communities like chibok or dapchi?

no doubt about it there is poverty in the land but the attitude of our young people especially down south doesn't help. alot want the instant flashy lifestyle without the necessary hardwork to follow it. if not for insecurity and lack of rule of law nigeria is the kind of place if you put your head and work diligently you would do well in no time

komekn:

That segment you describe is the exception and not the generality of people wilfully putting themselves into slavery and then playing lottery with thier lives to cross the Mediterranean Sea.

People buy into hope if you destroy thier hope you have destroyed thier lives.

Why do you think our churches are full of people They have bought into the hope, in most cases misguided prosperity ministry and not the true Gospel of Jesus Christ.
