In Russia, journalists are often killed for doing their jobs. Besides, the conditions of good life is way better than it is in Nigeria. Secondly, contentment with what exactly? We should be contended with the poverty, insecurity and joblessness in the land? Pray tell, were you not proud of the decision the Acting President took on the SARS matter yesterday? That is good leadership. We need very good and sound leadership. Else, we would have just left the Abachas and the IBBs to continue with their dictatorship. And finally, there are laws and they are made to be obeyed. If you apply for a job and one of the requirements is a certificate from NYSC, then the law should not be selective. If she skipped the process, then what's the point of the scheme? They should just scrap it and allow everyone to rest. Leaders are meant to serve. And if you employ someone, you often require that they put in their very best. Our leaders are our employees. We put them there. SolutionMee: Personally I don't see anything wrong with that. But there is a huge difference between morality and legality. On moral ground, we might say she is doing fine and should be left alone, after all, we just need a working minister. On the legality, she committed two crimes. Lying under oath (perjury) that she completed her NYSC and the second crime is forging her certificates. It is unfortunate Nigerians don't focus on crimes public officers commit because of our political affiliation and sentiments. In saner climes, Adeosun would either produce the said certificate or be dismissed. The precedence the government is trying to set is that if you're versatile in an area of study, you can become a lecturer without the minimum qualifications or a murder/forger/thief/rapist should be set free because they are contributing to our development. What corruption is this government. Fighting when it is shielding corrupt officers on grounds that they are performing? If you think NYSC is not important, why do employers request for it as mandated by the federal government? Why can't you pursue your Masters/PHD/PGDE in Nigeria without your NYSC? If you think it is not important, then O'level certificate is also not important in gaining admission into the University since some candidates can "perform" without it in the university. And lastly, If Adeosun thinks she can do without NYSC, why did she forge the certificate? ... food for thought! Let's not make mockery of our law in our pursuit for a better nation 2 Likes |
