OreMI22: Biko, New Owerri is the brainchild of late Sam Mbakwe not Rochas. That was way back when the Concorde hotel was built and World bank area too. Udenwa built the new secretariat complex and house of Assembly. Ohakim is responsible for the aesthetics ala greenery. Rochas has done a lot in opening up roads but he has cut down more trees than he has planted. Wetheral, Douglas, Okigwe roads etc as well as the larger old Owerri town have been rendered a concrete jungle by Rochas who hates planting of trees. Though there is no denying the fact that he has done more than any other governor since Mbakwe. 4 Likes 1 Share |

McStoic: Stop writing thrash because you hate Okorocha. Before Okorocha became Governor New Owerri was smaller than it is now and wasn't as built up as it is now extending to Avu, Nekede and Obinze. Uche Nwosu developed New Owerri through an ingenious tactics. Okigwe road is the only place Okorocha felled trees probably because they grew much tall and started bending towards the roads but he has replanted grasses and trees after expansion. Wetheral, Douglas and Orlu roads had no trees in 2011 and we have their pictures in Nairaland archives. 1 Like |

Same road 2011 vs 2018. Can Mcstoic tell me how Okorocha destroyed the greenery?

Re: . by Abagworo(m): 5:29pm On Aug 17, 2018 |
Most of the places shown by Spyder880 were forest as at 2011 with no roads or houses. Many might not believe but it's the plain truth. Example is this shot of easily recognizable road and building taken 2011. Spyder might have a more recent photo as most of his shots were taken deeper beyond this junction.

selemempe:It’s very commendable that you won’t wait for government before you start your cattle business. That is the way to go. If we wait for government for anything, we will be waiting forever, because government is very well known for dragging its feet, being inefficient, with a lot of fanfare, red tape and empty noise. As your business progress, you can even bring about the cross breeding of your cattle with high milk producing cows. First start by visiting the farms in which ever country they are. A business man with focus and foresight can reach for the stars. Never place your hope on the government. 5 Likes 1 Share |

McStoic: I've also noticed Rochas has little time for tree planting. Look at drone pics of all these new areas you guys are talking about and you'd be hard pressed to spot even one tree never mind a cluster. Maybe you'd see a few token spots of grassed up areas, but that's pretty much all the greenery you're gonna get! This is not just a problem with Rochas...all our Governors in the SE don't see planting flowers, shrubs and lining our streets with trees as being important! It's very annoying! |

Owerri is getting it right in aesthetics. The structures springing up and down there are of high quality value. Those places are too beautiful. 2 Likes 1 Share |

No one is even talking about the 2trillion naira being owed to Abia state government by rivers state and the federal government due to oil fields which belonged to abia that was ceded to rivers state. That money alone can change the fortune of the state. 4 Likes |

/ I passed theough Owerri in June 2018 (2 months ago). It is an understatement to stay that I was disgusted. Rochas set Owerri back by decades. To get the city back on track will take at least another ten years. Don't let the selective pictures of buildings fo0l you. The better experience will be to drive around the city to witness the decay and total collapse of a small city. It gets worse if you come from an organized city like Enugu. The city of Owerri is a total mess. // 3 Likes |

I have called out Rochas Okorocha for his many misdeeds buut it has to be said that apart from Dee Sam Mbakwe, no other Imo state governor, not Udenwa, not Ohakim comes close to him. He has bested them but i still don't think we should use him as a standard in Imo state. I actually don't get excited whenever i exit the major roads in Owerri and enter the inner streets. Roads are not existent. Even in areas with very good structures have very bad roads. This has made me think that what a lot of Governors actually is cosmetic surgery on the outside to deceive people. 3 Likes |

Re: . by Develpeast: 7:20pm On Aug 17, 2018 |
Afam4eva: Many state governors are guilty of this. They build the major roads and let the inner roads rotten. If governors can spare 5percent of the state's resources to build inner roads we will not have these problems. Moreover, if they find out that building inner roads might be cumbersome for them, they can tax the communities to generate atleast few millions to execute such projects. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Owerri people are used to spending half of the day sitting on cars in traffic jams. A journey of 10 minutes from Concord hotel to Nekede can take you 5 hours no matter the short cut you try |

InvertedHammer:I dont know if you are sure of what you are saying, or you are speaking based on hatred you have for Rochas for dumping your said Igbo party, apga since last 7yrs? Bro grow up, drop the past and forge ahead. Imo IGR dropped because of free education in the state, it used to be one of the best. And mind you, Imo is beyond Owerri and Owerri is a very big city almost the size of Aba and Enugu. Beside Owerri, there is Okigwe and Orlu and other upcoming towns like Oguta, mgbidi, nkwerre, obowo, umuaka etc |
Re: . by Xander85: 8:22pm On Aug 17, 2018 |
Develpeast: Are you sure of the amount....about 2 trillion naira? That's a couple of billions of dollars oh! Looking at the situation from a pragmatic and realistic angle; where will the money come from? They've not paid the Ogonis' the $1 Billion they promised them, and you (a 'nyamiri') is rubbing your hands with glee in expectation of collecting billions of dollars from Rivers and the federal gov't? Have you also factored in the person we have as president at the moment? Assuming the money was available, you think a Buhari will sign off giving Abia up to $5 Billion so it can become developed and leave Katsina behind? Bros, get real biko. If the case was resolved in Abias' favour, my question then is: judging from the amount they were awarded and the oil wells returned back to them, how come they're not getting a much higher derivation payment? All things considered, shouldn't they be receiving what say Akwa Ibom is getting? 2 Likes 1 Share |
