Help help help. I don't know, but saying "ministerial endeavours" is too generic. What ministerial endeavours? This is your time to focus or talk about the ministerial endeavours. Think about it, and also understand why this ministerial thing has to be done in the USA and not Nigeria. When you say "Biblical languages", would your school teach all of these or is it just something you intend learning yourself when you're there? When you're asked your academic background, I think and feel you should start from the beginning - like start from when you finished secondary school, when you got into the uni, what you studied etc. If there's no link between what you studied and your being a priest now, explain to the VO why you switched. Talk about how that is helping your ministry too. For example, let's say you studied medicine, you have to mention how you treat sick people as a work of mercy blah blah (only if that's true though). You can do better when explaining your work as a priest. Always hit the nail on the head. Avoid generic answers. Try to tilt the conversation in your favour so that you can mention your strong points. And yea, please pay your sevis fee. Did you write any standardized exam? What school are you going to? 1 Like |

Hello house I apologize i took long in posting my transcript, I really learnt a lot from this thread and it’s only fair that I give back. I had my first interview on the 9th of July but was denied despite the fact that the aunty that interviewed me said I am a strong candidate. She squeezed her face all through the interview ‘like say I snatch her husband' but I didn’t let it take away my confidence. I was initially taken to the fat black aunty she was already scrutinizing one babe she was seriously stammering, hmm I ran to the toilet for 20mins came out and joined Mr. Peter’s line as a sharp babe. But oga controlling the queue caught me and directed me to the light skinned pretty VO that was the moment I knew my village people escorted me to the embassy that day this is was the case of “from fry pan to fire”. Thanks to family and friends who encouraged me to reapply i booked a space for 10th of August to the glory of God I was approved below is my transcript
Was dropped off by a family friend around 6:00am interview was for 6:30am. Both the tension and AC from his car coupled with the fact that it was raining brought cold down my spine. I joined the queue i was still shivering then I prayed to God I can’t be like this during the interview it would show lack of confidence I started humming this song to myself “let your power flow in this place". After the whole checks it got to another “judgment day again”. I was a little bit tensed but I was normal still singing my song. The infamous Fat black aunty haven’t showed up yet I prayed to God to keep her at home for my sake. One by one the Vos started opening their windows. I prayed to have Mr peter and one other guy because I have watched them severally on the Facebook live chat ‘but last last them no reach my hand' lolzzz. I was called to window 1 behold the aunty that denied me the pretty black American VO(for my mind person no fit die two times naaa i didn’t even realize when I called the guy controlling the queue “oga please this lady has interviewed me before oooo”). He took me to window 2 a very calm guy in his late 30s and this went a long way in boosting my confidence. While he was interviewing the first guy at my front he excused himself and left for about 5mins. At this point my eyes caught different scenes VOs were just turning applicants into Chelsea fans blue papers everywhere like snow. One guy collected his own ‘him just bone face' assuming they gave him gun he would have shot the vo that interviewed him. Aunty in window 1 refused one mama whom they gave an interpreter chai! mama was begging her ‘ejor ejor ahh ahh ahh ejor' hmmm I was hoping she would retrieve it ‘lie lie last last' she called security on mama. Then my booboo lolzzz came back and finished up with the guy he approved the guy. I waited to be called upon by him first, I deliberately wanted him to observe my dressing( I was putting on a high waist penciled leg suit pant, a white three quarter sleeve shirt which I tucked in with a black belt, black flat shoes I don’t need heels ‘before them go wonder whether na modelling this one come for lolzzzz' because I’m almost 6ft tall , dotted feminine bow tie and wore a pair of classes to make me look professional and wrapped my natural hair) Then he beckoned on me to come forward sharply I matched forward like a soldier.
Me: Goodmorning sir and hope you are doing great today? VO: oooo yes I’m fine and you? ME: (With a smile)awesome! VO: Your doc please? ME: (passing it to him then I quickly added) oooo and I love your Ankara(he was putting on a brown dotted Ankara) VO: Thank you! So I see you want to go for Information Media (with a concentration in instructional design/Training) so why this course? ME: I chose to study this course because I’m an education enthusiast, and Nigeria as a developing country has it’s biggest problem facing education(then I deliberately did this to get him involved) Sir do you know what this problem is?(I took a 2-3 sec pause then he waved at me like babe talk I don’t know lolzzz I continued) Lack of technology adaptation therefore my study in the US will expose me to the very frontiers of emerging instructional technology tools for learning such as ezvid, jing, canvas and spark after which I will return back to Nigeria to introduce technology into the Nigeria’s school curriculum by creating instructional contents into e-learning formats to aid learning in schools therefore making learning more engaging for the 21st century learners……..(cuts me off) VO: How did you learn about the school? ME: I learnt about it during an annual education conference organized by Microsoft Nigeria which I was present with the theme “leapfrogging the education system of Nigeria through technology with special focus to the USA”. On one of the pages of the magazine’s published for that day was the profile of professor xyz whose research agenda has been on instructional designs and e-learning in developing countries I reached out to her she’s interested in working with me on her next CTC workshop(This time nodes in affirmation like sure she’s interested in you) VO: where do you plan working after this degree? ME: Having acquired a vast knowledge in instructional designs I look forward to working with Microsoft Nigeria, xyz state government and establishing the best digital education consulting firm in Nigeria and sub sahara Africa on my currently owned piece of land ( I deliberately said that and I have my landed documents but seems he was OK with that) where I will be working as an instructional/curriculum content designer as well as a consultant for education boards and schools across Nigeria and Africa. VO: So what kind of project do you wish to go into with Microsoft? ME: The tittle of the project is “school Creativity “ it is aimed at internalizing learning for children and bringing the best of technology development to the classroom. (Seems oga wants to hear more then I continued) Sir this is the bane facing education in Nigeria for instance you can take a walk into an average Nigerian classroom here in Lagos and you would be shocked to see that activities are still been dominated with the use of outdated textbooks chalkboards and extensive talks from the teachers and this is becoming very boring for the 21st century learners known as the digital natives with this degree I can make the Nigeria’s schools meet the technology standard for digital education therefore producing quality graduates who can compete effectively in the global economy. VO: Did you apply to any other school? ME: Yes VO: Name them? ME: University of Tampa, Tareleton state university and Webster university VO: Why this school? ME: (smiles) well, although these other three schools are great and outstanding but the deciding factor for me was because I was offered a 50% Academic merit based scholarship ( he was now looking at my i-20 for the scholarship) most importantly I have been given the opportunity to work with prof xyz whose research agenda has been on instructional designs and e-learning in developing countries which is applicable to the current situation of education in Nigeria and this was amplified in the Microsoft conference organized two years ago in Nigeria. Lastly I got so fascinated with the curriculum technology center of the department which is designated for designing curriculum for third world countries which I want to acquire and implement in nigeria working…..(cuts me off) VO: You said you got a 50% scholarship but I can see $$$ which is not even up to that? ME: Ooo sir I also have an award for out of state waiver(quickly brought it out I kept it somewhere in my folder cuz I knew such question would come up) VO: (looking at it then said) I think this is 30% ME: Sir i went to the school’s website and got the resident tuition cost of attendance I did a calculation with my total semester credit hour and I arrived at a rough estimate of more than 50% VO: ooo I see (nodding his fine head lolzzzz) so the scholarship and the award all amounted to 50% which is what amount ( yes boo in affirmation and told him the amount) so who will be paying for the rest fees? ME: My uncle Mr. xyz will be paying the rest fees, my mum will be assisting me where necessary and I also have my personal savings for miscellaneous. VO: Can I see your uncle’s SOA? ME: Sure sir(Note: I still took my 621 pages SOA A.K.A GMAT,TOEFL and GRE textbook as mocked by few persons here and this was part of the major reason he didn’t place me on AP mere looking at the SOA it screams GENUINE!!, I brought it out from it special portfolio) sir for the fact that the SOA is voluminous my uncle made a summary of all transactions On this paper (trying to show him) VO: Just take off the first and last pages of the SOA ME: (trying to remove it from the thick staple chai! the thing no gree I was like God ooo this man Should not get angry that I’m wasting his time village ppl oooo. Then I asked) Sir can I tear it? I’m finding it difficult to remove the staple(beckoned on me with a smile to go ahead fiam! In two sec I gave him the pages my booboo was busy studying the SOA I guess he was really impressed with the inflow and outflow which ran into hundreds of millions within 6months then he gave me back and started typing) VO: Are you single or married? ME: I’m single VO: (Started typing for what seemed like eternity, I saw God/devil white/blue paper and my passport was placed beside both of them I was praying in my heart lord please don’t let me cry again today please lord) Finally my booobooo said those sweet words YOUR VISA HAS BEEN APPROVED you will pick up blabababla in 3 days blalabla I couldn’t curtail the excitement that I had to stamp my left feet on the floor like Nigeria police lolzzzz ME: smiling sheepishly thank you sir! Thank you sir! Do have a lovely day immediately I came out of the door was jumping and running to go tell my family the good news one of the security men told me to take it easy because those soldiers outside would extort money from me immediately 'I bone face lolzz'
Tips! Tips! Tips! *As always advised here personalize your response let it be unique and always drive it home. *If you ain’t convinced with your response there’s no way you can ever convince a VO except a miracle happens. *I know many would say the VOs don’t look at your dressing but I will say this, dress the way you want to be address all of these factors comes into play. I saw a babe an F-1 applicant that flew are long Brazilian hair, wore a polo and jean with sneakers hmmmm last last she became a Chelsea fan.
APPRECIATION!! Special thanks to God Almighty for his grace and favour despite my waving faith. A big thank you to my parents especially my mum for waking up early mornings and late at nights just to pray for me i always hear her from my room. And a big thank you to my brother from another mother paulbet mehhnnn this guy would use his own credit to run several mocks for me that ran into minutes to an hour bro God bless you real good your mocks brought out the best in me and thanks for the great tips and corrections on my transcript. lasthero:
So sorry. This is how my trusted uncle gave me a fake SOA also in July. I trusted him so much that I did not expect him to do such to me. If not for God who made me have this feelings of verifying the account. I tried checking out the account number by doing a mobile transfer from my phone 3days before my interview. Behold, the account name on mobile app was entirely different from the account name on the statement of account, even though its same account no. I queried him and he was like "eehm aburo, the embassy don't use to collect it, just go there and be smart, they won't collect it, they will only check."
That is when I knew family people can be evil. I had no choice than to reschedule my interview to spring, get a new sponsor (my parents this time) and request for new I20.
This is just a wakeup call for everyone. Don't trust most of those uncles or agents. They will lie to you that they have money in their account, they will tell you it's original statement. Always take a further step to verify documents authenticity before taking them to the embassy Na wa .... so many rotten eggs in that basket called Nigerian . May God change us Thanks for sharing 1 Like 1 Share |
