The thing is that role requires a player that is nimble and intelligent enough to interchange with the other attackers. In other words, his movement, linkup and one touch play should be superb. Sadly, I don't see Pogba in such role, rather a 3-man midfield setup with Pogba being at the tip would be better fit.

Pogba's style of play fits between the midfield and no 10. I.e, he's neither a no 10 nor a typical central midfielder.

Every defenders would always struggle against pacey players at one time or the other. Vidic struggled against Torres irrc. Even Smalling had it worse than Blind after January. One thing I know is Blind looked even more reliable than Smalling that season.

Btw, Matic isn't slouch in the air and should slot well in a 3-man defence.
