The war could have been avoided but ego and certainty of winning pushed Ojukwu who somewhat knew he stood no chance but chose to gamble for oil sake. I'm the end, he lost the oil, lost his men and went ahead to refuse foreign aid because they would not allow him use their transport planes for sending guns. He fled the country and returned a better Nigerian. Died and was buried a Nigerian. His wife and children are busy permutating and calculating how they would get hold of power while the impoverished and relatives of those he well used their heads bemoan the horrors of the war till date. If Ojukwu is not wise, I wonder who is. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Ok. If I read many of the earlier cowardly ignorant commenters correctly , Igbos should have allowed the genocidal hausa/Fulani soldiers and civilians to massacre them all in cold blood. Anybody blaming Ojukwu for the war is a cursed dumb animal and will remain so until an unknown grave claims him or her. Rubbish! 4 Likes 1 Share |

Ojukwu did not wake up and start fighting war, the killing of the people from the Eastern region caused the war. If there is no massacre in the north there wont be Biafra war. We are all a witness in the massacre that is happening in the middle belt, where children, women, men are brutally murdered in cold blood and you expect that they should all fold their hand and die like flies just like that, Igbos gave the combine forces of North, West and world powers a deadly blow and they only won the war through war criminal act by starving children and women to death to win the war courtesy of Owolowo the man that Ojukwu release from prison, only for him to go and back stab and betray the Easterners. Yoruba should understand that when one is pushed to the wall you have to fight for your survival otherwise your territories will be taken over like how Fulani took Ilorin till date. 3 Likes |

Shukuakukobambi: You know nothing about struggle. Ojukwu lost almost all his father's wealth in that war. He father was one of the richest in the country, if he is that selfish as you paint it, he had no reason to go to war as he was very comfortable in every aspect of his life. The war was mainly about liberation of a tribe from oppression and we argue that youthful exuberant was part of the mistakes they made. Maybe if he had been a little patient, there would have been another way to resolve the ethnic crises as at that time but it is what it is and life goes on. No amount of regret will reverse the hand of time. Funny enough, we the youths don't learn from past mistakes as we keep repeating the same mistakes our fore fathers made. 1 Like |
